He clearly has no idea how GPC works.  It is used for convenience of purchasing and also tends to save money.  Another key point he neglects to understand is that each GPC card is connected to a preloaded line of accounting making them the equivalent of a prepaid credit card.

Travel cards are somewhat different in how it is paid in that each trip is connected to a funded line of accounting which is verified to have sufficient funds to cover the cost of the trip which is booked through government approved travel agencies with defined limits on airfare, accommodations, and meals based on date of travel and location.

GPC cards are audited like crazy, has to match down to the penny. I

Military uses them especially for testing or design and need parts quickly.

He has definitely made the military less efficient because of all this

He just says anything and people eat it up . When I was active duty navy I had 2 government purchase cards (gpc) when I was at a strike fighter squadron. We had to have receipts that matched what was on the credit card statement . Then every month we would have to submit the receipts with our statements for an approving official to verify. If nothing was wrong they paid our credit cards. If there was an issue they would send it back to us to explain the questionable spending. Sometimes it was legitimate spending and sometimes it was fraud. So with 12 squadrons on the base that's 24 credit cards.

Then each squadron had between 80-100? people who had their personal government travel card for official travel. Some people had low limits like 4500 bc they did not want a hard credit inquiry and some people had a higher limit like 10000. Similar to a gpc we had to submit receipts to an approving official to make sure our charges were legitimate. If we were good to go they were paid. If not they were kicked back to us or they only paid the balance for the legitimate expenses and the service member had to pay the difference.

The benefit of these cards is that it makes tracking expenses and disbursing the payments easier.

And no one has mentioned that for the DoD there has to be a GPC card for each "color" of money and that government civilians who travel are most likely required to get a GTC.

Yeah, that's almost entry level in IT these days

I assume in SiliconV, NYC, and maybe a couple other places a $150k salary is entry level for an IT specialist.  That's top of the line for sure I would think.  I doubt a regular software engineer is getting $150k out of college in say Atlanta or Cleveland or Phoenix.  Am I wrong?

I was working with the lower band of that salary at $120K. My perspective might be a bit skewed based on where I work as well.

As someone else mentioned, it's super weird that this never gets passed under GOP leadership.

Don't worry, he's blowing it with DOGE too:

Reuters reported that DOGE "triple counted a $655 million contract, claiming more than $1.8 billion in savings that did not exist.” DOGE also claimed that it saved $8 billion by canceling a contract with Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Office of Diversity and Civil Rights. But that contract was actually worth just $8 million, according to a federal database.

Quote

Even contracts still up on DOGE’s website don’t make a ton of sense; some of them list savings of $0. And when there are savings, sometimes the task force appears to take credit for programs that ended under previous presidents, including at least one from George W. Bush’s administration.

Quote

the General Services Administration published a list of more than 400 properties it wanted to either close or sell, deeming them "not core to government operations.” That list included the J. Edgar Hoover Building, aka the FBI headquarters, and the Robert F. Kennedy Department of Justice Building, frequently referred to as Main Justice.

"DoGe sAveD $100 bILLiOn"

Almost 40% of the line items listed under "Savings" in DOGE show ZERO savings.  That's the official DOGE amount and not something from MSNBC.
