This stat about Mahomes being 8-0 against Fangio is pretty ridiculous. In the regular season last year, Vic's Dolphins defense held KC to 21 points and 267 total yards. They gave up 26 points and 409 yards in the playoffs, but the Dolphins offense did nothing in that game (scored 7). So an average of 23.5 points and 338 yards. The games from 2019-2021 when Vic was the HC of the Broncos, that was a different Chiefs offense with Tyreke. Scored 30, 23, 43, 22, 22 and 28, average of 28 points per game.

Well next you're going to tell me that our defense is more talented than the Dolphins.

The edge from Marshall looks awfully good after day 2 of senior bowl

There was a tiny flurry when I said that Calcaterra was a better blocker than Ertz and horrors! actually has become a pretty good blocker.

This brings up one of my pet peeves. So many fans have a snapshot perception of players, a moment frozen in time. That's what they are and that's all they ever will be.

Well, NO. Players, with good coaching, training, lifting, film study, etc. can and do get betterI can think of a bunch and have seen a lot of that with this team.

Remember how so many in here were burying Isaac Seumalo? Go back further. Kelce got ripped. Can't anchor was the popular chorus in here. With those two, work and coaching turned them into terrific players. They got better. Nolan Smith was characterized as a bust by quite few in here. So was Sweat. Ojomo was a JAG. We had to keep Hargrave because Williams couldn't play the run. And so on.

I mentioned training, lifting, and film study but the main ingredient is coaching. We all know about Stout and what a great coach he is, and look at what he's done with Becton this year, but what about all the guys Fangio brought in? Hurts for the DL. King for the LBs. Anderson, Parker, and Kasper for the DBs. All those units got better, WAY better. What King has done with Baun, Dean, and now Burks is a minor miracle. DeJean was held back for six weeks until he was deemed ready, at which point he most certainly was. and so on.

Which brings me back to Calcaterra. They don't throw to him much - 30 targets all year - but he's caught 24 for almost 300 yards AND his blocking has improved greatly especially in space. He may never be a great in-line blocker but Stout motions him across as a lead on the power, or a split zone, or an outside zone. On the move he can hit his target, not really that easy but he does it.

My point is that he's gotten better. Folks that can't see it are stuck looking at that snapshot I mentioned above.

Such a fun video to watch

Tbh he is super entertaining. He probably has a nice career after he’s done playing cause of it.

They were, but it would be stupid to think that Mahomes and Reid aren't going to be an entirely different animal when going for 3 in a row.

Reid off of a "bye" has always been very good.

My point is that they primarily won games this year on their strength of their defense more than their offense. A fact that seems to be flying under the radar.

Mahomes may be the best, but they've gone through good offenses in Balt, Cin, DC, LA, Pitt when they were "hot", and GB. They've faced offensive geniuses with good QB and the defense has shown up. They have two weeks for the Eagles and Vic has two weeks to come up with something for them. Vic is going to be working, he's someone who makes good adjustments, I'm sure he's learned what Andy likes to do against his defenses, and they have the players across the board to get this done. People slobbered over Love, MS, and JD the last three weeks and how they were going to expose them. It didn't happen then and it's not going to happen now.

I've watched Mahomes behind this offensive line all year. They were having major problems before Andy plugged in Thuney at left tackle. But I think they are playing pretty average right now. He made some desperate throws last week. Worthy bailed him out on one of them and it was controversial. Think we can get him to turn it over a couple times. Also, Chiefs offense had the chance to ice the game at home vs. Bills and didn't. Thought that was telling. Where was the Mahomes magic?

This team is very beatable. It's so tantalizing to see what a good team like the Eagles will do with them. But somehow they scratch out wins because frankly their competition isn't that great over there. Remember last year when the Eagles were 10-1 and you kinda knew they weren't that good and more like fool's gold? I feel that way about the Chiefs.

This version of Mahomes has not been great. Just good enough to eek out one possession games in all kind of crazy ways...wink wink refs. Personally, I think the high ankle sprain he suffered a few weeks ago is still lingering, so don't expect him to be too explosive with the runs. But he still can scramble out of trouble and get you a first down. In a nutshell, the Chiefs defense is the main reason they have won the last 2 Superbowls. They are gonna have to be lights out for 60 minutes and get multiple turnovers In 11 days to win this one.

Their defense has been good but I’d argue against the 4 best offenses they’ve faced this year they were more susceptible to giving up points. On average giving up 26 ppg (Baltimore, cincy, and Buffalo twice— if likely gets his toe down it would have looked worse ). I’d add Baltimore was week 1 and cincy week two (without Higgins) which both were much better offensively as the season went on. I actually think the eagles can score on their defense if we can be solid in blitz pickup

The question was whether he’d look like he belonged vs a higher level of competition - and like Q last year, he showed out, wrecked that Oregon kid (who’s no slouch) with a bull rush in 1v1. The guy has a bag tricks and is also above 250lbs. Yeah, I’d be surprised if we didn’t have to make a significant trade up.

His name is Green.  He should be an Eagle, and hopefully not a Jet.

Bingo. I guess he only has 32 1/4” arms, so we’ll see how that plays out.

Well yeah it's to be expected that they're gonna give up more pts to the 2nd, 3rd, and 6th ranked scoring offenses. You could pick out a handful of our games this year too where our defense looked fallible, but looking at the whole body of work, they've done very well. Like we talked about earlier, it just feels like people are remembering the Chiefs offense of 2 or 3 years ago and thinking they've been riding Mahomes and the offense while the defense has been just barely good enough to get wins, when it's actually far more balanced this season and their defense has kept them in and won them many, if not most of their games on the year.

Eagles have to account for everyone when playing the Chiefs.  They could focus on Kelce or Worthy but then end up getting burned by Nikko Remigio.  Chiefs will spread it all around.

Their offense has really relied on doing just enough and mahomes making plays when they needed him too. The defense has really carried them in a lot of their games. Like we talked about earlier the last two years it’s not been nearly as dynamic or potent. Some of that is Oline and weapons. I do think they are as healthy as they have been all year which also helps for this game. Not having rice is still big. Like New England not having Edelman the year they faced us in the Super Bowl. It’s a big loss for mahomes and the offense.
