There was a tiny flurry when I said that Calcaterra was a better blocker than Ertz and horrors! actually has become a pretty good blocker.

This brings up one of my pet peeves. So many fans have a snapshot perception of players, a moment frozen in time. That's what they are and that's all they ever will be.

Well, NO. Players, with good coaching, training, lifting, film study, etc. can and do get betterI can think of a bunch and have seen a lot of that with this team.

Remember how so many in here were burying Isaac Seumalo? Go back further. Kelce got ripped. Can't anchor was the popular chorus in here. With those two, work and coaching turned them into terrific players. They got better. Nolan Smith was characterized as a bust by quite few in here. So was Sweat. Ojomo was a JAG. We had to keep Hargrave because Williams couldn't play the run. And so on.

I mentioned training, lifting, and film study but the main ingredient is coaching. We all know about Stout and what a great coach he is, and look at what he's done with Becton this year, but what about all the guys Fangio brought in? Hurts for the DL. King for the LBs. Anderson, Parker, and Kasper for the DBs. All those units got better, WAY better. What King has done with Baun, Dean, and now Burks is a minor miracle. DeJean was held back for six weeks until he was deemed ready, at which point he most certainly was. and so on.

Which brings me back to Calcaterra. They don't throw to him much - 30 targets all year - but he's caught 24 for almost 300 yards AND his blocking has improved greatly especially in space. He may never be a great in-line blocker but Stout motions him across as a lead on the power, or a split zone, or an outside zone. On the move he can hit his target, not really that easy but he does it.

My point is that he's gotten better. Folks that can't see it are stuck looking at that snapshot I mentioned above.

Another was that Ertz wasn't good with breaking tackling and would typically just fall down. Though I think the stats backed that one up

I remember Kelce getting ripped but couldn't remember what for. There was definitely a moment where people wanted to move on from him. Thankfully Eagles didn't lol

There were 2 issues with Kelce.  He had something like 10 holding calls against him in the first year with Doug.  He also had issues with anchoring against biggern NTs.  It's why they drafted Seumalo.  He worked on technique and was a much better player in 2017 through the rest of his career.

yup...good read! My peeve is the majority of the knuckleheads in here only reach their conclusions with the snap shot in time perspective. More importantly they base their options and judgements from only being able to see cause and effect. Their eyes are only trained on where the ball is and the primary players on an individual play. There is no context taken into account such as personnel groupings, schemes, blocking, defensive alignments, down and distance adjustments etc....It takes a trained eye to see a lot of that...

I think he has two.  Hopefully he has two.  If he doesn't, then THAT would really be something to watch!

Brandon Graham springs to mind as well.

Heard a stat last night while poking around YouTube.

The Eagles had 7 Rushing TDs in the NFCCG.

The Cowboys had 6 rushing TD in the ENTIRE 2024 season.

It's new.  Clearly they are talking about Winston.

OH NO!!!

Offensive and defensive 3 keys to victory.

Offense:

1. Dickerson and Jurgens both able to play well for the entire game.

2. Brown, Smith, and Goedert combine for 20 receptions.

3. No turnovers.

*My presumption is Barkley remains Barkley.

Defense:

1. Force 2 turnovers.

2. Minimum of 3 sacks.

3. Hold them to less than 100 yards rushing.
