OCs too often draw up Xs and Os and don't think enough about match ups.

Eagles tried that with Ertz and even Calcaterra (with Goddert out) and of course it was a disaster.

If you want a TE to block an edge rusher, you need a true blocking TE, 260+ lb guy with good technique, not a receiver first guy who can hit LBs on the second level but lacks the sand in his pants and/or technique to handle a DE.

There's a great clip of Gronk talking about a practice play where they had him pull and block Wilfork, after getting knocked back 5 yards, after that when they called it he'd just hug Wilfork.

Baldy has a video of Nolan Smith, who weighs less than the typical TE, hitting the Chiefs All Pro O-Lineman.  Technique and leverage.  If Smith can learn it, so can TEs.

Whenever I watch LII (and soon LIX), it's with Merrill and Mike or Westwood One with the occasional Patriots (and soon Chiefs) radio sprinkled in lol.

And is this (LIX) going to be made available to folks who ask nicely?

It’s because 2017 was close. The stress ingrained every detail into my memory.

One weird thing about this Super Bowl. Even though it was just 3 days ago, it doesn’t feel like there are that many memorable moments.

Just off the top of my head, there’s the DeJean pick 6, Bauns INT was a beauty but I don’t think it will have lasting power, Hurts to Smith and Williams strip sacking Mahomes with Carter **** slapping him in the face. Thats really all I can think of that stood out that we all will remember in 8 or so years.

I don’t know if it’s just because the game was so uncompetitive or if it’s 2017 was the first so it felt more magical. Or both. Or if it was such a blowout I drank too much and just don’t remember.

2017 had so many "wow” plays on both sides.

52: Brady drop, Philly special, Graham strip sack have already withstood the test of time.  The Alshon and Clement deep passes were great but didn’t last over the years at a more popular level.

59: DeJean pick 6, Baun INT, Hurts dime to Smith, Williams/Carter Mahomes hit.  I suspect the Baun int and even the Hurts pass to Devonta will fade a bit and the real iconic plays from this one will be the pick 6 and the Williams/Carter destruction of Mahomes in slo-mo.

I wouldn’t be at all surprised if Howie starts using annuities as the incentives/bonuses.  I was talking to a friend recently who showed me his annuity statement.  For an original purchase price of $75,000, the annuity now has a market value of over $1 million.  If a player understands the value of a future stream of income that an annuity provides it could be a win win.

For me the DeJean pick 6 and the DeVonta home run are the two top plays in my mind. Of course the others are there too

Counterpoint: Did the flea flicker dagger vs Minnesota fade over time? The Patrick Robinson pick 6 is always the play that pops in my mind first from that game, but second is the flea flicker because it was an exclamation point. The Smith TD was a complete "eff you, we’re ending this game right now” play. I think it will end up being the second most resonating play from the game.

Any of you good with mixing/cutting audio/video? I have the 4K version of the SB but I want to cut out the commercials and possibly upgrade the audio because it's in 2 channels

My advice is to keep the commercials. They are annoying and you’ll skip over them every time you watch, but for historical purposes you’d rather have them in there when you watch this twenty years from now.

How could anyone want to cut that Seal commercial

Top plays in franchise history, SB era?  (No particular order)

Philly Special
Graham strip sack of Brady
Corey Clement back of the end zone TD
Jeffery deep TD
Dejean pick 6
Baun int
Hurts to Smith SB
Williams/Carter destroy Mahomes
4th and 26
Barkley pounding his helmet in the snow on his long TD run
Barkley long TD run 1st play against Commanders
Willis to Troy Vincent lateral 104 yard pick 6 against Cowboys
Lito pick 6 in TO’s return to the Linc
Double doink
Jake Elliott 62 yard game winner NYG
Desean muffed punt return for TD against Giants

2004 and 2022 Eagles feel under-represented here.  They didn’t win it all, but any season that went to a SB should have something worth mentioning…

Individual amazing plays that were of minimal significance:
Dawkplex
Barkley backwards hurdle
One no one will remember but I always loved…Buckhalter somersaulting and flipping out of bounds while reaching around the pylon for the TD, against Miami in 2003.
Vick deep ball to Desean against Redskins
Randall to Fred Barnett against the Bills (a bit before my time)

Did the same thing against Jenkins in the GB game too.

Patrick Robinson pick six against MIN in the 2017 NFCCG.

Those are the plays I remember the most from that game.  But I think the Patrick Robinson pick 6 is really the play of that game.  Any turnover-for-a-TD play in a winning effort is sort of a slam dunk to be the play of the game.

I’m really excited to see Nolan Smith next year.  It’s hard to really ask for much more improvement after what he already pulled off this year.  But if he learns some pass rush moves, he’s going to be a massive problem.

He’s the fastest edge rusher in the NFL already and still manages to be explosive and violent at the point of contact.  But his real value, IMO, is that he can be a heat seeking missile for the new generation of QB’s that love to freelance around the LOS to buy time and scan downfield.  He’s faster than every QB in the NFL and can completely throw off their internal clock when he’s in pursuit.

Said screw it & bought the plane ticket

Fly out to Philly tomorrow & I’ll be at the parade Friday 😎

Some random plays that deserve a shoutout…

* Freddie Mitchell "I’d like to thank my hands” TD against Minnesota in the playoffs.

* Westbrook 84 yard punt return to beat the Giants.

* DJax long TD to open the Monday night massacre against Washington.

* Eric Allen interception return against the Jets where he handed it to Randall.

* Pretty much everything about 44-6.

* The GL stand to beat Atlanta in the divisional round.

It didn’t come in a win, but Hurts’ two-point conversion in the SB loss to KC would be remembered as a Mount Rushmore type play if Gannon’s defense would have shown up at some point.

McNabb 14 second scramble and bomb to Freddie Mitchell.

Stopping the Cardinals 7 times at the goal line.

That's why we need (and will) just let the draft come to us.

Nolan Smith and Jalyx Hunt are too good to force pick an edge.  Can you go into the season with just them?  Absolutely not.  If there is a future BPA stud sitting there at that position for our pick, would it be superfluous and foolish to draft him?  Absolutely not.

Same can be said for CB, DT, OL (depending on whom is retained).

I do think we need to come away with at least one EDGE and DT. Doesn’t need to be our first two picks, but the class is too deep and the need is there.

OL is pretty weak, especially tackle. Maybe we grab one if someone unexpectedly falls, but because of how weak the class is if anything I expect them to get over drafted.

CB is where I’m expecting some opportunities to be. A couple injured top prospects and a few really talented guys who had disappointing years but have all the traits to be plus starters. If Darien Porter weren’t 25 I’d be alllll over him.

- Pickle Juice Game - Onside kick (recovered) to start the 2000 season against Dallas

- First game of the 2004 season - first game with TO - Opening Play - McNabb to TO Bomb TD

- Goal line stance against the Cardinals 1992 - Gang Green Defense stopped the Cardinals 7 straight times

We will have a giant pile to chose from. Here are a bunch more.

  • All 3 miracles of the meadowlands
  • The Reggie White Stuff from the Saints playoff game
  • The McNabb broken ankle game
  • The Dawkins on Crumpler hit
  • Take your pick from the House of Pain game
  • Randall bouncing off of Carl Banks and hitting Giles
  • 11 sacks on Aikman in 1991
  • Wilbert's long TD vs Dallas
  • Quick going 99 yards

Last one is not a play. Garcia going up to the camera and saying "Merry Christmas, Philadelphia" after the division sweep to make the playoffs.

The Carter sack of Stafford will always stick out to me. It saved the closest we came to losing all playoffs
