There has been a lot of talk about how Nick S needs to stay aggressive situationally this time (all talk being about the offense) ie: not punting on 4th and 5 in SB 57

The scenario that I'm most concerned about is on defense.

If KC has the ball late with a chance to win, I hope Fangio plans to stay aggressive and not sit back like he's done late in other games.

Don't get reckless and start blitzing, but don't go full prevent either.

Visions of Kirk Cousins, Daniels, Stafford, even Trevor Lawrence making easy game winning drives because we got way too conservative.

If we find ourselves in that situation, then I'd rather live with getting burnt playing to our strength than sitting back and giving them a game winning drive.

The aggressive approach by Jim Schwartz is what allowed us to finish off NE. It has to be something that they plan for playing against Mahomes, because in all likelihood he will have a chance late.

Agreed. It’s the only part of this year’s defense that hasn’t been great. When they go too soft they tend to give up lots of chunk plays. I think it’s part of a mindset that takes away the aggressiveness of a defense.

i rather not have the situation at the end where Maholmes has his chance at winning the game. The Eagles need to decide this game before a potential game winning drive… either way!

Interesting stat, in 2022 Jake made 96.2% of his regular season extra points, this year he made 98.6%

Also the only other year Jake missed extra points in the play offs?  2017.

That’s crazy! I would’ve never thought that.

His stats when it comes to FGs is way worse though, I suspect. He was money from long distance if I recall correctly.

They don’t have extra picks.  They have seven total picks and 4 of the 7 are at the end of that round.

In the Goedert-Jackson trade six years ago, the Ravens sent three picks to the Eagles — a 2018 second-rounder (No. 52) and fourth-rounder (No. 125) and a 2019 second-round pick — in exchange for Philadelphia's 2018 first-round pick (No. 32) and fourth-round pick (No. 132).  That resulted in adding Goedert and Miles Sanders.  If the depth of D-Line prospects on the Board at pick 32 is still rich then Howie can still get what he wants this year as well as a bonus player like Sanders with the accumulated pick.

We can trade up or stay put just as well, I don't think anything is for sure. If a d-lineman is sitting there in the 20's that they didn't expect to see fall, I could see them absolutely jumping up some, especially to get ahead of Detroit. Or, staying at 31/32 gives you that extra option year on the contract which could be very important. We are a bit short on picks this year but I'm not moving back just for extra picks if we are losing out on a higher tier d-lineman. If there's a few guys left when we are on the clock then I'd see about moving back a few.

You almost never move down if it means losing out on one of your preferred targets, but Howie always knows what his Board is like and when pulling the trigger on a trade still leaves him with a strong likelihood that the players he gets will be good ones.

That 3rd rounder from the Dotson trade would be nice to have back.

It worked amd they were right.  The most dominant running team in NFL history in a league woth defenses built to defend the pass.

It must be absolutely terrifying as a defender to have a man the size of Mailata laughing like a deranged lunatic while he's coming at you.  He's insane

Chiefs were very deliberate to plan for Buffalos QB sneaks where they have a tendency to go left.

They "stopped" them a couple of times. Kind of lol

Does Hurts always go over the left side too?

Cap space: rolling over is about $26 million.  Cap increase for 2025 predicted to be between $10-$20 million.  So maybe  $15 million giving us $41 million.  Not accounting for any new dead money hits, we have that to work with to get Baun, Becton, maybe Williams signed.   Also, Burks is a FA and he is likely a must sign since Dean is shelved for a while and will not be what he was next season, if ever again.  Covey, Lovato, Rodgers, VanSumeren all FAs as well.

So, we have to re-sign both of our current starting LBs, choose between Becton and Williams, and keep some depth players.  Howie gonna have to be creative.

His field goal percentage is down, but I wonder how much of that is down to not doing kick offs until late season meaning his leg was rusty in terms of distance.

One thing the Eagles need to do well is get playcalls in and get set earlier in the playclock so Hurts has as much presnap time as possible.

Maybe even do a little half huddle so the Chiefs can't substitute.  Anything to keep them from getting too exotic

He may lean left, but he typically goes a lot lower than Allen.  And the push the Eagles line gets is a bit different than other teams

Hes still unreliable even after taking kickoffs back.

Now that you mention it, it definitely seems by memory like he does go left a lot of the time. But sometimes he goes straight forward too. Other teams just don’t execute it like the Eagles though for some reason.

Not as many as you'd think.

  • Round 1
  • Round 2
  • Round 4 (from PIT)
  • Round 4 (from DET)
  • Round 5
  • Round 5 (from WAS)
  • Round 5 (from HOU via BUF)

There's no 3rd round pick, and I think Howie very much wants a pick in that area of the draft.   And let's be honest, the difference between a player at pick 32 and pick 45 is generally not that big.   So, moving out of Round 1, turning into a second this year and a future 2, maybe 1... that's huge.   And they will likely look to trade up from Round 4 into Round 3.

But, mostly, you know that Howie likes the draft day(s) dance.  He can't help himself but to wheel and deal.

I hope, and think they will, throw a wrinkle out of the push formation. Especially on third and short similar to the shot they took to AJ in the Green Bay game.

If it makes you feel better, we blitzed a ton vs. LAR and CAR in the final 2 minutes where a stop ends the game, but a TD gives us the ball back.

And that's a HUGE deal.  That's what Schwartz went with during SB LII.  They needed to shut down Brady quick, OR get beat quick because it was a 5 point game.  They got it done with the BG strip sack.  Got a quick 3 to put the game up to 8, bleeded the Pats of their timeouts, and made that final 'drive' a desperation just to get in position for a Hail Mary attempt. (which still ended up being terrifyingly close!)

Vic can't follow Gannon's play book and just let them march slowly down the field at the end of a tied 4th quarter.  Once they get to their own 40 yard line... its time to get after them with some massive aggression and try to force a turnover or have them score quick.   I trust Vic much more than Gannon.  It's not even close.

Howie learned not to get cute with trading down in the Marcus Smith draft.
