It's hard to discuss the draft before free agency.  And it's naive to discuss free agency without considering the draft.

As stated before, this is a deep DL draft.  That will impact the Williams and Sweat decisions.  I may even impact their intent to pick up Davis' fifth-year option.  I have no issues with adding to this group with early picks.  Carter will soon be the highest paid defender in history.  Having other guys on their rookie contracts will be a necessity.

I'm good with the first 3 picks being DL.

Likely losing Graham and Sweat. Hopefully trading Huff. Need more than 1 DE this offseason.

At DT, draft a big body type. Gonna be weird trying to negotiate an extension for Jordan Davis and it just might not work out. Probably makes more sense to get his 15-20 snaps at a rookie contract price.

TE is a bigger priority than OL, certainly higher up in the draft. Goedert will get dinged again, so an heir needs to be found at some point

That depends on Johnson's status moving forward.  I have no issue with Calcaterra as that guy, but if Johnson retires, and Becton moves outside... that moves Steen to the starting lineup, and then I don't know who the 6th OL even would be.   Fred Johnson is a UFA, so he very well could be gone and then we have a massive ?.   Kinnard, Keegan, Toth and maybe Driscoll are the backups currently with the team (and Gates).  That doesn't instill much confidence in me.   We would absolutely need some more OL depth, especially at OT.

And frankly, you can get by a few games without a TE, you can't make do with scrap metal along the OL.

I hope the coaches are focused on the game, the Chiefs, and Mahomes. Not the refs. They can't control them. They can control only what happens on the field (to an extent). Play.

Agreed but they should be mindful of the refs because they hold way too much power in a game

I say lean into the 15 yards and really lay that SOB out then. It's not worth pulling up since they will flag them anyway. Put him in the blue tent.

I don't agree with the blue tent part... but treat him like Dawk treated Crumpler and Vick back in the day.   Just make Mahomes start to make some business decisions.

EDIT: and the defensive coordinator.

Yeah, stuck with players. As for coaches:

HC - 2024: Nick has more experience, and he really has been solid with the decision making in the 2nd half of the year. It's close, but I feel like this version of Nick is doing a better job of leading the team and keeping his emotions in check (since the CLE game).

OC - 2022: We might remember Steichen too fondly, but I hadn't been super impressed with Kellen until the NFCCG. All of a sudden we were running things like the jet sweeps to Goedert, push passes to Smitty, etc. If I see a RB screen in the Super Bowl, I may faint. Kellen is closing the gap.

DC - Massive edge 2024: Gannon's defense feasted on bad QBs in 2022 and struggled with good ones. Fangio has held Burrow to 17, Lamar to 10 (before a garbage time TD), Stafford to 13 before a garbage time TD and 22, Daniels to 10 before a garbage TD and 23 (and one bad game with 36) and Love to 29 and 10. So taking away the Ravens, Rams and Commanders meaningless TDs, in 9 games against quality QBs we gave up an average of 18.9 points while the game was competitive. In 2022, Gannon gave up 35 to Goff week 1, 33 to Rodgers/Love, 40 to Dak and 31 to Mahomes, an average of 34.75 points in 4 games. This defense is much more battle tested and has excelled.

With all the bad press the refs have gotten lately. I think the NFL would be wise to monitor their own. Especially in this game where there are twice as many cameras.

Yep.  I was wrong.  I edited later.

If this is all really scripted, the refs are set up for an epic WWE style heel turn on the Chiefs. Mahomes gets crushed, flag comes out, and then ref announces they are picking up the flag and no penalty. And the Chiefs fans are stunned by the turn.

That sentence does not exist in the Eagles' front office.

We don't need to spend a top-100 pick on a TE as the team is currently constructed.  We need a competent pass catcher with the ability to block inline.  We don't need a premier weapon.

Howie spent 2nd round picks on Ertz and Goedert. Goedert is now 30 heading into the last year of his deal. This is also a very deep/strong TE class.

the difference between a player at pick 32 and pick 45 is generally not that big.

I read somewhere this year that the picks 18 or so through up into the 60's are all on even ground, I wish I could remember where I saw that because I am surprised thats the case.

Your guy Gil Brandt used to say there are 15 actual first round talents in most drafts, and picks 16 to 50 there isn't much dilution in talent.

You are correct regarding this class.  However, if you look at the consensus boards, after Warren and Loveland, the depth of the class shows up mostly in the late-third and fourth round.

Remember, that Goedert pick preceded 9-7,9-7, and 4-11-1 seasons.  Sanders/JJAW were taken in the second round the following season.  Smith is the only offensive weapon drafted on day one or two since 2021.  That use of picks seems to be working.

You'll just get the classic Mahomes faking an injury only to keep playing as if nothing is wrong with him then

Yeah I'm probably as far as you can get from being a Howie Roseman fanboy, but he's been drafting extremely well in recent years.

Howie didn't get scooped with the Marcus Smith draft because he tried to get cute.   He got scooped in the Marcus Smith draft because he misread on Marcus Smith.  The Eagles selected Marcus Smith at #26.  The Cowboys selected Demarcus Lawrence at #34.  Even Trent Murphy went #47 to Washington.  Either would have been far better than Smith, and obviously Lawrence was easily the best of that trio.   Right position for what they were looking for, just choose the wrong guy.

But, Howie absolutely knows what he's doing in terms of where most of their targeted players are going to go.  Not always, no one is 100%.  I've been super critical of Howie in the past, specifically on his talent evaluations, but it's almost impossible to be critical of his read of the value of players in the draft.  He's outwaited the talent a few times, but that's rare.   The great RB draft that landed us Donnell Pumphrey being a prime example though.  Fournette, McCaffrey, Cook, Mixon, Kamara, Hunt, Foreman, Conner, Perine, Cohen... any of them would have been better than Donnel Pumphrey.  He waited too long... but still could have landed Aaron Jones would have been much better than Pumphrey, BUT they were looking for someone to be a Sproles clone.   And THAT is where Howie has missed the mark the most.  Don't try to draft a guy that's a carbon copy of the guy you need to replace.  Draft a guy who can fill the same position, even if its a different role.

Howie's biggest misses have been when he's pigeoned holed what it is he is looking for in a given draft... like wanting to get a 'speed guy' at WR and so he took Reagor rather than Jefferson.  He's doing much better going to 'talent' rather than a specific style.

We can compromise at knocking him into the locker room 😂
