Yep. Some other keys that will decide the game…

* Tackling. Mahomes’ depth of target is really low. The Chiefs rely on YAC. We’re the jest team in the league at defending short passes. Mahomes will probably pepper the flats. We can’t let those four yard catches turn into 7-8 yard gains.

* Spags went single high in the Super Bowl and Hurts torched him. He went two high last year and we pounded them on the ground. I suspect we’re going to see single high. Will Hurts pull the trigger on those one on ones? When he does, do they connect?

* Rush integrity. Mahomes kills teams in the playoffs with scrambling, particularly up the middle. That said, I want Nolan Smith taking a few chances, especially when lined up against Jawaan Taylor. He can make a game-changing play with his speed on a traditional rush and can track down Mahomes on those scrambles. I have a feeling he causes a fumble Sunday

I hope they are repping over and over not biting on the stupid pump fake on Mahomes scrambles.

The Chiefs run RPO and hand it off all game, and then will run the same play on critical 3rds/4ths and shorts and in these Mahomes will keep it, you see it time and time again. In these situations I want someone to just sell out to Mahomes on these critical moment RPOs. He's going to keep the ball in those situations. And if he hands it off and Pacheco picks up a decent gain, so be it. But don't get beat by his annoying scrambles.

Is it part of the CBA agreement or league rules that teams have to play celebrity and do these interviews?

Yes, it is a requirement during Super Bowl week.

The media aren't the only ones leaning into the whole ref thing.  The Hype Video Epic that launched last night is also central I to it and the role it played in the last Eagles-Chiefs Super Bowl.

Goodell's role is also heavily covered throughout the hype video.

Maybe they should give them an extra week so the celebrity part doesn't interfere with actually preparing for the game

Remember that as a part owner of the Raiders, Brady is severely limited in his ability to question referee calls.

BDN...

JFC. How is it only Tuesday? I'm Fing chomping at the bit to get this started. 34-24 Eagles win. Saquon grabs the SB MVP and OPOY. Damn, I just need it to be Sunday already.

To add to this... Saquon CHOSE not to add an 8th to this list and a 4th long TD in the playoffs, when he slid against the Packers went it was over and he had a clear field in front of him.

This was a 76 yard TD run, if he wanted it.   Instead, he punched the ticket to the Divisional Round, and waved bye bye to the Green Bay Pretenders.  And that slide cost him about 60 yards.  He would have already gotten the record for regular and post-season yards and would need only 180 to break 3k.   This stuff will make breaking 3k all the more remarkable.   He literally left meat on the bone all season with this type of selfless play.  Just remarkable.

I hope he gets it.  It's gotta sting for him if he looks back on this and sees what he could have done.

Refs are going to swing it by a touchdown, guaranteed. It’s not even about blaming the refs, it’s just a reality at this point. They do it every game. If you aren’t game planning around this reality, you’re going to lose.

We absolutely must have a 2 score lead late in the 4th quarter.

Personally, I wouldn’t even bother attempting field goals. Jake has been so unreliable and 3 points just isn’t going to get it done.

I think the key is winning the turnover battle. Hopefully the D can figure out a way to force multiple turnovers.

The player on offense that scares me the most is Worthy. Hit him early and often off the line

Terrell Davis' 1998 season is arguably the greatest RB season in league history.

  1. Top-10 all-time regular season total.
  2. Top-10 all-time playoff total.
  3. Highest combined total.
  4. Super Bowl champion.

Saquon already has the first two.  Is 32 yards away from the third and an opportunity for the fourth.

Lastly, he has the second lowest odds to be SB MVP, which Davis didn't get in 1998.

I'm home sick today... so of course I'm rewatching the NFC CG.

Just got the sack for the Commanders that set up the missed FG by Elliott.   3rd and 6 at the edge of the red zone.   THAT is the danger zone for this offense against the Chiefs and Spags' exotic blitzes.   But, I think the answer to that is that 3rd and 6 in those situations should be running downs in those spots on the field.  Why?  Guaranteed to stay in FG range, and you still have the chance to get a TD on that play.  The real explosive plays come from this team's running game more than the passing game.  And, if you can get it to 4th and 2 or less, going for it on 4th down becomes much more realistic than a 4th and 6 if the pass is incomplete.

Lots of options for the Eagles to make magic against the blitzes by Spags, and make them pay for being aggressive.

WE dictate the play. They respond.  All the strength is right there.  By choosing to run and NOT risk getting pushed outside FG range, we already defeat the blitz, to a degree.  We don't have to throw into it. So, sometimes, don't.

Edit: Hope you mend quickly.

Thanks.  Good news.  Because of Gabi's good play.  He's your #4.

Hmm....

Im not sure what to think.

Caleb was a big time addition for depth for this team. If they are trading him, it seems to signal that maybe they are giving up on the idea of contending this year.

On the other hand, Grimes is kinda nice, and coming with a 2nd round pick.

It kinda seems like a solid trade for this year and for the future.

Also they can make another move and be below the first apron and also potentially sign Gabi to a long term extension. Plus give them flexibility in the offseason with some exceptions

I see Grimes has an expiring contract. Nice.

Is there a practice today?

It has to be an ass-kicking similar to what Tampa did to them in Super Bowl 55. The Eagles have a triangle of death between Mahomes being too clutch, the refs waiting for an opportunity to impact the game, and Elliott having the yips for it to be a one possession game deep into the 4th quarter.

Two years ago I thought the Eagles and Chiefs were evenly matched; it didn't surprise me the game came down to a couple of plays and a suspect discretionary penalty call to decide it.  This year it feels like the Eagles are the better team.  Kansas City finished 15-2 (and only one real loss before the mail-in Week 18 game), but they haven't been dominant at all over the course of the season.

Where the Eagles finished with a +160 point differential, the Bills and Ravens were both +157, where the Chiefs were only +59.  Even if you remove the 38-0 Week 18 loss when they played without their starters, that's only a +97 point differential for a 15-1 team.  Mahomes and Kelce aside, I just don't think they have a whole lot of talent offensively.  Hollywood Brown and Worthy are fast, but neither is capable of taking over a game.  At this point in his career I think Kelce can be controlled, if not stopped.

Again, I think the Eagles line up and pound the ball with the intention of Barkley and the OL controlling the game.  Spagnuolo will gameplan to stop the run and force the Eagles to win with the pass, but if Barkley breaks another couple of runs the way he has been so far in the playoffs, it's hard for me to see the Chiefs getting a bunch of stops in this game.

Frankly, I'd be surprised if the Chiefs can score more than 24 points as long as the Eagles don't give them points.  Hurts left the ball on the turf for one TD, and Siposs' dreadful punt and the punt coverage gave away another 7 points.  If the Eagles can cut out those blatant errors I think they can win by 10+ points.

The Bills were really able to move the ball effectively in the run game. I think some of that was scheme but they also opened up big holes up front.  The problem, in part, is that they didn't stick with the run game.  The Eagles need to continue to hammer them.

Hopefully, KJ Martin is next.  Paying him a lot of money but not sure how he fits.  Council and Edwards and Oubre all deserve to play.
