And doesn’t count towards potential comp picks

That’s a good point. We have an opportunity to get two 3rds and maybe a 4th depending on who we let go.

We need to be strategic to maximize comp picks.

Enough to go around since Davis is pretty much a run stopping role player at this point for 15 snaps a game. I don't think some people are accepting that yet here.

I think I will accept what the Eagles Media Guide shows us …. a team total of 1,047 Defensive snaps for the 17 game season.  Davis had 388 Defensive snaps, which is 37% of 1,047.

388 divided by 17 is 23 snaps a game.

In addition, Davis had 245 Special Teams snaps … another 14+ snaps per game.

You will go red in your face trying to show them facts!! All they see is Davis getting 12-14 snaps on defense in the postseason when we’re asked different things out of our DT’s and think that’s all he got all season.

Pickett is definitely gonna be dealt this offseason. I think he and Huff are two most likely to be traded. Eagles are gonna need not just quality but quantity of picks this year to mitigate a relatively quiet free agency period, so I think they'll try to get a couple extra mid round picks somehow to add some more depth. Like another RB if Gainwell leaves and another TE somewhere.

I could see Howie trading a pick with Huff for a worse pick just to get someone to eat some salary.  He's creative that way.  It's been done before

Thanks. Okay 37%. Had 15 snaps average in playoff games. Don't you think in year 3 he would be starting for Fangio, if Williams is not worth keeping? Again, I like him. But someone is gonna get the axe here at some point. I think we can draft or sign a run stopper easier than drafting or signing a DT who can get after the QB. Just a hunch.

My opinion is that it will be very hard to find any takers for Pickett, but I hope I am wrong.  I also think it is worth the effort to bring Huff through the OTAs and Training Camp and Preseason to see if Fangio’s staff can recapture his past performance.  If they get to the end of Training Camp and there has been no progress then Howie can work his magic.

Nothing ventured, nothing gained.

I expect Williams and Sweat to get paid elsewhere.

I also expect Howie to carefully (thinking comp picks) bring in some vets as depth pieces at DT and Edge before the draft, then take advantage of the DL depth in this draft class.

Early picks at DT and Edge should fit in nicely with the rotation pieces already in place.

Yeah I definitely think they play the comp pick game this year.  They already have a 3 from Reddick next year.  I think they'll stack up picks to give next year's draft flexibility when they'll need young players with all the high contracts

Also need to keep an eye on accumulating draft capital for Lane Johnson’s eventual replacement. It might not need to be next year, and maybe Becton fills that role, but we need the optionality to make a move in the next few years.

Lane is like Jason Peters and is gonna be here longer than we think. In great shape. No slowdown yet. Eagles lifer. Could be 4 or 5 more years. He will tell them the year before he retires to worry about that. And Becton will be a turnstile at RT.

Howie will know the likely 2026 comp picks before this upcoming draft.  He won't be shy in using his existing 2026 picks this year to move around, knowing that he has comp picks waiting for him.

Williams would be nice to keep but he’s going to get paid and with what he’s likely going to get we can sign both Baun AND Becton.

He produced 5 sacks last year. You don't think he can produce 5 sacks on his own? He got half of that in the Superbowl. 😄 All kidding aside. His snap count will go up with a larger contract. I expect Carter's to go down. And figure out the difference with rest. Enough to go around since Davis is pretty much a run stopping role player at this point for 15 snaps a game. I don't think some people are accepting that yet here. Still like him for that role. Someone is gonna have to take the hit here probably going forward as far as the core goes. Best plan is to keep Ojomo and Davis for 2 more years here and then assess and see what salary cap looks like and what production they have. Both may be casualties after the 2 year term here.

PS. Ojomo got Zero sacks (regular season) playing next to Carter this year....anyway.

Sacks schmacks.  The Number 1 Defense ranked Number 14 in the NFL with 41 sacks.  That was 22 sacks behind the league leader.  Sacks are definitely splash plays, but there is a whole lot more to A Defense than sacks.

I suspect we add some players who are also cut from other teams that they believe they can maximize and won’t hurt their comp picks

Totally disagree on Becton.

Maybe Lane sticks around longer than we think, but he’s talked about the physical toll on his body a few times and also dealt with depression.

We need the resources to replace him regardless, and our roster is pretty damn deep already, so I think Howie starts pushing draft capital into the future.

They can probably fit all 3 with Howie creativity in contract structure and some contracts reworked. But doubt he will. Sounds like $36M cap space is where they end up at. If can do

Baun- 3/45

Becton-2/25

Williams- 3/63 or 4/84

Then I am paying the piper and everyone else can exit. Worried that it can even go higher than all of that. Will see...

His pass protection PFF at guard is ranked at 63 rating and number 60 in the league. What makes you think at right tackle he plays better than that?

Lane recently stated he's playing many more years here. Contract ends in 2027. 3 more years sounds pretty certain, unless he has a career ender. He may extend and restructure this offseason if I had to guess.

I think he is solid player. But no sacks is no sacks. He's playing next to Carter. He should get sacks automatically. No? That's what I keep hearing here.

Ojomo today is every bit as good as Williams was 12 months ago … that is indisputable.  Hunt is similarly every bit as good as Sweat was 12 months ago.  Rodgers filled in very nicely for Slay this year.

what is unproven about those guys?

He wants the Scenario where they keep Williams that's obvious.

No disrespect to Williams but we have Davis who has shown (especially down the stretch) that he’s more than just a a run stopper - and we have Davis really cheap this year and at around 11.5 mil in 2026.  So at $20 mil per year Williams will likely be somewhere else next season.

This is also an historic Defensive Line class - some scouts have as many as 50 of the top 100 players in this years draft on the D Line.

And don’t forget about Ojomo either - the guy has shown flashes when given the opportunity.
