No disrespect to Williams but we have Davis who has shown (especially down the stretch) that he’s more than just a a run stopper - and we have Davis really cheap this year and at around 11.5 mil in 2026.  So at $20 mil per year Williams will likely be somewhere else next season.

This is also an historic Defensive Line class - some scouts have as many as 50 of the top 100 players in this years draft on the D Line.

And didn’t forge about Ojomo either - the guy has shown flashes when given the opportunity.

No guarantees on Davis even being here right now. We can still draft a DT in 3rd round if that's BPA and keep this fantastic depth going on the interior line. Could be be losing Davis and Ojomo potentially in 1 year for Davis and 2 years for Ojomo. Would be saving money on that account then too. Carter's cap hit worries are at least 3 years down the road from when it's a high cap number.

Williams contract could be over by then if he does a 3 year deal. Or you can just trade this asset at that point if its a 4 year deal. In my mind, he is worth way more than a compensatory pick at the end of the 3rd round in 2026. Which is like an early 4th rounder. And really valued as a late 4th rounder because of the year of the pick.

Lot of variables here. Not as clear as day as everyone thinks. I'm gonna trust Howie and Fangio here. We could go heavy at DE too. And solve that in this draft. Got 2 pretty impactful guys leaving in Sweat and Graham.

Also need to keep an eye on accumulating draft capital for Lane Johnson’s eventual replacement. It might not need to be next year, and maybe Becton fills that role, but we need the optionality to make a move in the next few years.

For me, that would be what determines if we pay Becton.  If you can confidently say that Becton is the RT of the future, then you do not hesitate to pay him good money...protect RG for the present, and save yourself a first round pick in the next 1-2 years at RT.

If you don't think Becton is going to be the RT of the future, then it may be best to turn it over to Steen and use that cap $$$ on the defense.

A cheap option at DE Id like them to kick the tires on is Malcom Koonce.

There's some upside there, but he's also coming off of a major injury. Might not be a terrible rotational end on a cheap one year prove it deal.

I'm guessing unless they're magically able to trade for a big name, they'll just draft a kid.

Huh?   Do you mean the resume of the person being hired to fill a position doesn't matter?  If that is so, then on what basis do you decide whom you would hire to fill a vacancy?

I'm not sure how you got that from what I said. I said it's irrelevant where the person comes from (meaning from within or from an outside source). The most important thing is you believe the person you hire for a job can do a good job.

I think he is solid player. But no sacks is no sacks. He's playing next to Carter. He should get sacks automatically. No? That's what I keep hearing here.

Last season Williams had half a sack, which jumped to 5 sacks this season.  Ojomo had one sack in the Postseason, but none in the regular season.  Time will tell whether he gets to 4.5 sacks next year.

Bechton looked good at RG and it was just his first season at the position. Keep him there and let him get better. I think he agrees to a team friendly 3 year deal. I’m confident they’ll find a RT when they need one.

Focus should be continuing to add depth and talent to the DL which is the money ticket to continue as a championship contender.

No. Compare them after year 2 for each. And then come back to me. 😉

The Eagles Media Guide shows 1,047 Defensive snaps for the 17 game season.  Davis had 388 Defensive snaps, which is 37% of 1,047.

388 divided by 17 is 23 snaps a game.

In addition, Davis had 245 Special Teams snaps … another 14+ snaps per game.

His snap count went down towards the end of the season and in the playoffs 3 out of the 4 games his snaps were in the teens. That's simply not a 12 million dollar player. Now I do like him so hope there's an extension, but I doubt Howie pays him 12 mil per year.

If BG hangs it up, I always liked Denico Autry who will be a likely HOU cap casualty… he might provide a similar final run + leadership for a season at a low cost.

The only guy we MUST resign is Baun.  Sure keep Becton if the price is right, otherwise we’re fine rolling with Steen.

No way we can afford Sweat and Williams.

Look at last offseason.  Granted, much of what happened was unrepeatedly miraculous.  But still, it happened.

The team ended in a tailspin.  They lost Hasan Reddick, Jason Kelce, and Fletcher Cox.  That was arguably their best defensive player over the last couple years, a HOF center...and Cox was still a very good starting DT at that point, even if not what he used to be.

Their eventual replacements were:
1.  A DE on the roster that was left for dead (let's be totally honest here...even the coaching staff had given up some hope on Nolan Smith).
2.  Indirectly, a scrap heap draft bust from the Jets (Jurgens may be the C, but Becton filled the open spot).
3.  A DT that never played much, never did much, and was more famous for Howie not getting high fived when he drafted him.

(Ironically, each of their planned replacements (Huff, Steen, Davis) didn't ascend into those roles as planned).

But...Nolan Smith, Becton, and Milton Williams were nobodies (or worse) this time last year.  And each one of them represented an upgrade over the previous year.

And the holes...

CBx2, LB x2.  All addressed at a completely elite level either via rookie draft picks, scrap heap, or someone on the roster finally living up to their expectations.

Things wont go down quite like that ever again.  But there are ways of getting a nice DT, DE, etc without an FA splash.  Specifically, I'd look to the market of 1st round busts entering year 3 and 4.  That's the big talent in need of a wakeup call and change of scenery.  And the Eagles have just become the franchise that can make that work.

I’m just being realistic.  There’s a 99% chance Davis and Ojomo will be here and good chance we sign both Baun & Becton.  Williams will likely be the odd man out, especially at $20 mil per year.

Not really because we’d have to give up significant draft capital in order to acquire him.  Draft capital that Howie has been very good at using on younger guys recently.

The way I look at it is this. Howie has kicked the can down the road with voidable years on contracts way more than any other GM.  One can argue that he was right in doing so because he’s been to two Super Bowls in the last three years, and won one of them. Many people would argue that alone is worth it.  But to really win with that, you have to draft exceptionally well to continue to survive even when the bill eventually comes due (‘28 - ‘29ish?).  So far, mission accomplished in a major way… I’d like to keep that process going.

To trade for Myles Garrett says (to me at least) that they think they only have a 2-year window…3 max.  With the way this team has drafted the last few years, it has the potential to be much more than that

Meh... I'm fine either way. If/when they lose BG and Sweat. I wouldn't mind a vet stud being brought in to an already youthful group. They'll be drafting at the bottom of the rounds this year anyway and likely the 2026 draft too lol.

Because I like my DTs to also be RZ threat RBs...

He's as good as signed with the positive cap increase news.

Yes.  7-time All Pro.

How disappointing...Zack Martin, Tyron Smith, and Travis Frederick (3x all-pro, shortened career because of an immune system disorder)...what a waste of incredible talent, they deserved better.

Martin retires tied with Randall McDaniel and John Hannah for the most first-team All-Pro selections earned by a guard in NFL history.

Don't think Koonce will be all that cheap unfortunately but like the player quite a bit.

I wonder how attached the Dolphins are to Jaelan Phillips.  Creaky knee.  Would play low snaps here.

I think we can have all 3 if the market is not absolutely bonkers. And it won't affect much down the line. At all! Will see what all the other supplementary moves he has in store. He could go a totally different direction and choose to extend Sweat, Slay and other moves because of the dead cap space and getting good bang for your cap space. He will first see what market is for Baun, Becton and Williams before he goes all the other alternate routes out there. It could go haywire and can't discount that. It's a tough call overall.

Another EDGE from LSU that will fall in a stacked class. Seeing him lasting to late RD3-RD5 in alot of mock drafts and in the mock draft simulators. Kind of reminds me of Sweat with his gameplay.
