People here are underrating the continuity, culture factor and team chemistry here in just plugging in parts everywhere for eventual peeps leaving. CJG, is a perfect example when he left, a worse loss then just on the field. Gotta be careful here. Also, rookies aren't necessarily going to just step in like Dejean and Q did. Unless they are pretty high picks or fall in the draft considerably. Cant assume that happens every year. I am happy if we even hit on them. Howie been making it look easy lately. Ojomo is still kind of raw. Milton just showed something more consistent this year in his 4th year. And Davis going into his 4th year is still a quagmire for as high of a pick he was and the 4 picks we traded to move up to get him. This defense needs some young vets to keep this going. Gonna have to spend money to be where we need to go. Howie better be careful here.

Good point with CJG. Baun and Williams were huge parts of that defense last year. Howie has extended the window by adding some young guys last year, but they have the best roster in the NFL and a good chance to win again next year. Spend the money and worry about the cap ramifications down the line.

Agreed, and if they draft Jihaad Campbell with Pick #32 they will have added a player very similar to Baun who can play LB or Edge interchangeably.

He has risen to #1 on my Draft Board.

Yeah if the Baun meter is moving in the other direction, I am all-in on Campbell.

Hope he is there at 32. But I think he will move into that 20-25 range post Combine and interviews. And I am okay with a slight trade up to secure him.

He would be DROY material paired with Fangio and this defense.

How much of drop off would there be to go from Baun to Baron Browning?  I obviously have no clue.  Browning does have history with Fangio and was a top 10-20 recruit coming out of High School FWIW

100% this. He's basing it off of the Eagles history of paying lineman and not paying LBs.

And fair enough on that assumption — there is a decade of data to confirm that assumption.

But one of Howie’s best qualities is that he truly learns from mistakes and tries to rectify them. So I think there is a decent chance Baun gets re-signed.

I disagree with this.

Baun had the better season. Of that there is no doubt. But Becton might be more important to the team. JR mentioned Becton’s ability to block the second level, and for me this can’t be overemphasized: Becton routinely de-cleats linebackers and safeties. Many of those big Barkley runs are because Becton just obliterates guys at the second level. Essentially, the Eagles’ offense home run capability is in large part based around Becton’s skill set.

And then you have to consider how easy it would be to replace each player’s skill set. You can count the number of guys with Becton’s physical traits on one hand. Baun had a great season, but you can find a guy with his size and movement skills in the 4th round of the draft.

One of the things that made Baun so impressive was his ability to punch balls loose. That’s a coachable skill.

Can Baun repeat the number of turnovers he produced? Because that is where his real value was. I’d expect some reversion to the mean in that regard. But Becton’s ability to work his way to the second level and part the ocean like Moses is something he’s shown for multiple seasons and is a known, repeatable quality. And a rare one at that.

So much of offensive line play is continuity, team work, and coordination. Even with Steen having been in the system for two years, he has limited playing time and replacing Becton with him is going to be starting over in this regard to some extent rather than building on the foundation that was already set.

Personally I think and hope that we can keep both of them, but if I have to choose, I’m keeping Becton. And that’s without getting into the right tackle succession plan.

I believe you are underrating Baun.  He was excellent in pass coverage this year along with causing turnovers.  5th in DPOY speaks for itself, as he was the best off-ball LB in the entire league with no one even coming close in the voting.

Becton is a great run blocker no doubt, but he's not a great pass blocker.  Replacing him with a guy like Steen shouldn't be a big overall dropoff when you factor in both.  And I doubt we'll ever be as run-heavy as we were this season.

Browning has not had a year remotely close to what Baun had in 2024.

As long as Saquon is here, we're gonna be every bit the run-heavy team we were.

We have an offensive line that just helped their RB have probably the single best season in NFL history.  You invest in keeping that in tact all day long.

Still no word at QB coach. The longer it goes without mentioning names, the more I think they'll promote from within. Jason Michaels or something.

Either had Baun

Yes, but "Baun did it, so Browning can do it to" isn't sound reasoning. It's just a baseless assumption. Right now we have evidence of Baun being that kind of player and we don't for Browning. I'd put the odds of Browning being the player Baun was in 2024 as highly unlikely.

Nakobe most likely not being ready by the start of next season will probably play a role in keeping Baun. He’s a must re-sign either way but I don’t know how comfortable they’re going to be going into next season with two new starters there.

I'm not anti-Baun just curious how much of it is system.  Baun was phenomenal this year and think he re-signs.  I also wonder if we lose Becton will be look at OT's or OG's in round 1 or two..  OT's are usually the better athletes.  I do like Donovan Jackson a lot as high potential guard.  He did play OT some this year but not sure if he would be great at it in NFL

Seumalo was never close to Becton, I'd probably take Steen over Seumalo at this stage of their careers.

What? To say he’s not close to Becton is ridiculous. Seumalo was a very good player for the Eagles and from everything I’ve seen has been the best O-lineman for the Steelers over the past two seasons. To want Steen over him at RG is a no from me.

I’ll take Becton over him now though because of his upside. He’s only going to get better.

You get better quality shirts from the guys walking around with duffel bags selling them in the N Lot.

Baun is unquestionably the priority to bring back.

Wild card game- interception

divisional game - fumble recovery

NFCCG - forced a fumble, recovered another

Super Bowl- interception

If a CB or Edge rusher did this, they’d be handed a blank check.

Browning is a bit of an idiot so only place I would want him is at edge.

Who cares what he did with high school at this point. Superior athlete that doesn't have it between the ears.

Agree, rotational edge rusher.  Would like him for that role.

They need a new body.  They've literally lost Kellen Moore and Doug Nussemeier and just added Parks Frazier so far.  As optimistic as some like to act that seems like a net loss to any unbiased observer.

From Sports Illustrated -  That first year was his only year with Vic

The Broncos tried Browning at inside linebacker initially, and it worked well. He thrived off the ball in 2021, but that next offseason, the Broncos opted to move him to rush linebacker and that's where he's remained.

I would not be surprised to see back to back 2000 yard seasons from Saquon.  Especially if Becton stays, the O-Line is likely to be even better next season than it was this season … especially in the first four games.  Teams won’t be able to sell out against the run.  The Super Bowl showed them what that resulted in.

My hope is 3/37.5 gets it done for Baun.

Maybe 3/39 at most.

Get Becton for 3/45 with a 'We took a chance on you when no one else would' discount.

Draft DL first two rounds.

Win another Super Bowl.

Sounds very similar to the New Orleans history with Baun
