Garrett is under contract and Garrett wants to win. I doubt he's looking to be traded to a contender and then immediately demand a new deal to be the highest paid player in the league.  He's a guy who has his ticket to the Hall of Fame stamped that wants to get a ring before he retires.  I don't think it's going to take as many picks as people perceive to get him, he's better than any player we will get at 32 in the draft and the immediate impact he would make is incredible knowing the caliber of player we would be pairing him with in Jalen Carter.

It reminds me of people scoffing at the idea of signing Barkley.  Yes we had a great offense but you add this top tier elite player who is the best at their position in the league to an already great unit and you will see immediate great results come from it.  That is what getting Miles Garrett will be for our defense and team.  It's really hard to repeat as Super Bowl Champions.  A player like Miles Garrett becoming available for contending teams is a golden opportunity for a Super Bowl Champion that already has the best defense in the league.

That is great in theory, but you fail to address the cost.

What is the realistic number for Becton per year that Howie is likely to offer?

I have seen quite the range.

I think it gets done if it is in the $10-13 million/year ballpark.

An OL-starved team with cap will probably offer $15-18 million/year.

Will there be a middle ground?

I expect no higher than $10M AAV with team and individual performance incentives

But is he looking for a top end deal?  We don’t know if that is the case.

That’s going to be the tell all piece in less than 3 weeks

This FA class sucks and there are OL-needy teams all over with plenty of money to spend. He will get higher than $10M AAV.

Browns receive:

2025 3rd

2026 2nd

2027 5th round pick

Kenny Pickett

Eagles receive:

Myles Garrett

2027 6th round pick

Okay.  Now what is the AAV of the contract extension Garrett wants … and how much money will be guaranteed?

Beyond silly response.

It isn’t silly at all. He is simply being a Brown and telling you your offer isn’t rich enough and you need to do better.

I’m willing to make a friendly wager.  Are you?

What will be really funny is when Howie signs Williams, Becton & Baun. All of these arguments will be null and void. I think the guy who's most likely to not get that large of a deal is Becton, with knee concerns and Stout being the guard whisperer. If they can grab him for 2/20, I do believe all 3 is possible. May have to trade Davis for a 3rd rounder, which is the surprise I expect here if I am reading Fangio and his actions correctly. Goes to Arizona to be with Gannon and gets a nice extension.

Everyone wants those guys and will be thrilled if they're re-signed.

We're just being realistic.

I don’t care to bet, but you’ll get a nice ITYS if you’re right.

Shipley is legit, no need to spend on a RB early.  Keep stocking on both dline and online early in the draft, add a TE and maybe a CB in the 2nd or 3rd round.

I agree with this. I don’t follow college, but from what I've seen this year, I've liked what I've seen from Shipley.

If Gainwell walks, he's #2. Then they can draft a RB or UDFA for #3.

Haha I would deserve that. Fletcher Cox retired so I had to update the avatar 😂

I understand that is the way you feel, and I’m not questioning that.  What I want to do is drill down into the player specifics.

Specific players?

It really depends what you’re looking for as a team and what resources you’re willing to expend.

Hampton is probably the second back off the board. Big, physical, has good speed, can make people miss and has hands. Basically the prototype of a complete back.

Kaleb Johnson is sort of similar to Hampton in his build and physicality, maybe a little more nifty in traffic, but not as well rounded in the passing game so couldn’t replicate Gainwell’s blocking. More of a high volume back.

Henderson has more explosiveness than those two. He’s probably 10-15 pounds smaller but still physical, and could step in to an NFL passing game without being a liability.

Judkins is another bigger guy. Very pro ready. High floor low(er) ceiling compared to Hampton or Henderson.

Sampson is a more elusive back. Smaller at around 200 pounds. More of a rotational piece than bell cow.

I think most of those guys are gone before our second round pick.

Tuten is similar to Savion Williams (TCU WR) in that he’s going to be extremely divisive. Might be the fastest RB in the class. Solid size at 210 pounds. Can catch and block, but needs a lot of coaching specifically in regards to ball security and patience/vision. He’s the boom/bust guy of the group in my view. I think he drops based on ball security and someone could have themselves a gem.

Devin Neal is a guy someone mentioned as a target and I agree. Good size at 215, great blend of elusiveness and power. Doesn’t have the extra gear or I think he’d get drafted a lot higher. I’d love to have him as Barkley’s backup.

Skattebo is fun. Just a throwback bowling ball type. Extremely physical, high effort runner who obliterates arm tackles. Lacks speed which will probably make him drop.

Rewatching the full Super Bowl broadcast. I LOVE our defense.

One random thought is how CJGJ matured over the season. He was calming players on the sidelines. And he had an early hit on Kelce for an incompletion, then stood still to avoid any altercation. I love that. Belt to ass...but don't give the refs anything.

If Gainwell walks, we need someone who can block on third down, because that’s not a strength of Shipley’s. Not sure Shipley would be the #2 without a lot of improvement in that area.

Good point. I'm not aware enough about Shipley's skill set. But I'm still riding the high of this season.

13 to 1 on 1st downs.

I might rewatch this once a month.

Big fan of Devin Neal too. Especially in RD5.

Like the way he cuts. Good vision.

Catches well out of the backfield.

And maybe most importantly, above average in pass protection.

I would have to ask some others, but maybe the 70s Raiders.  4 Hall of Famers... Art Shell, Gene Upshaw, Jim Otto and Bob Brown.   That would be tough to beat.  That was before my time though.

And Bob Brown was a former Eagle who was drafted by the team and played great for us but was traded away because we had morons in the front office. It's disgusting how bad we were from the mid/late sixties til the late seventies. Basically, except for one year (the 1973 draft was great), every personnel decision that we made was the wrong one.

I’d be over the moon to get him in the 5th. I think he gets taken late 3rd/early 4th.

It’s basically what we’re all seeing — really well rounded, versatile back. If he were fast he’d be a top 40 pick.

Even when we won, it made us miss out on OJ Simpson (though in retrospect maybe that was a good thing).

Or we could have taken Joe Greene instead of Leroy Keyes. Or Mel Blount instead of some awful cornerback we picked ahead of him. Or anyone instead of John Reaves. Or not traded a first round pick for Mike Boryla. Or given up multiple first round picks for a quarterback who only had two good years left in him. It's amazing how many horrible decisions were made in that era.

Thanks for those profiles. They are helpful.  Any thoughts on where to go for corroboration/second opinion(s)?
