So, now we know what happened on that play where he ended up getting laid out by the RT while he was chasing Mahomes, and why he was not using that arm as he got up to chase him.  Warrior.

I don't think he'll be back for the very start of the season... and likely shouldn't be.  Graham rushing back from a torn triceps to play in the Super Bowl, in likely the last game of his career is one thing.  Smith is still really young, so he needs to make sure he's back 100% and then some before he steps back on the field.  A guy his size can't really be effective unless he has full strength in his upper body to keep the OL off of him.  I think the Eagles need to start him on the PUP list, and take their time.  The recovery times I've seen are up to 6+ months.  That puts us at the end of August.  No need to rush him back though.  If he's not ready until the first week of October, so be it.  I'd rather have him down the stretch than for the opener.

Again, my prop is less than 3/39.  Yours would be 3/39 and over. Friendly bet?

I really don't see the need to bet but we can have a friendly rehash once the signing is made.

He should be fine in 6 months max

Well, I'm no doctor, so I yield to those who know.   But, I don't put any pressure on him to get back by Week 1.  Gotta trust the training staff though.

When was the last time the Eagles had a backup RB on a 2nd contract? Boston Scott was given a bunch of 1 year deals, but nothing substantial. I don't see Gainwell sticking around here for vet minimum on a 1-2 year deal. He's got to go get his money.

I'm fine with Shipley being the backup and looking at another RB in the 5th or later rounds.

Baun is must sign.

Becton would be nice, but not devastating if they can't sign him.

Everyone else would just be nice to have on team friendly deals. If they can't get them back, I'm confident in the next man up or the FO able to fill the gaps.

Eagles will need to get some depth on the DL in the draft, and I would also like to see some better depth in the secondary, specifically at safety.

Sydney Brown could hardly see the field, and I don't know if I trust him for extended playing time. While Blankenship is a great story, I wouldn't mind bringing in some competition. CJ is injury prone, so they will definitely need to get more talent back there.

Gainwell isn't going to get much but Saints or Colts could give him 2.5 maybe and Eagles won't

Does Darren Sproles count?  He got a 3 year deal in 2014.

Explain how it makes too much sense.

Exactly as I outlined.  The best defensive end in the NFL still in the prime of his career that is now becoming available because he wants to play for a contender.  We have the chance to pair the best defensive end with the best defensive tackle in the NFL along with the other pieces we have in place.  Our secondary is likely going to take a slight step back either by losing Slay or by Slay's natural aging decline if we keep him.  You offset that though by making the defensive line more dominant.

That is great in theory, but you fail to address the cost.

I've addressed the cost in another post.  Put together a package like 2025 1st, 2025 3rd, 2026 2nd and either Pickett or McKee.

Sure.  But he literally came out of the Cowboys game as soon as he got to 2000.  There was plenty left on the bone.  But the goal was only 2k, not the single season rushing record (Dickerson) so he came out immediately.

He literally had 31 rushing attempts that game. How much more are you giving him that day?

When it comes to Baun, I’d just like to remind people of what the LB corp looked like just two years ago. I also would like to remind people that before Fangio was proven correct about Baun, Howie signed Devin White as his actual LB at the time.

You're basically making both sides of the argument here.

Why Baun is so important to sign.  And also that Howie passed on all the free agent LB talent and signed White because he doesn't spend money on LB.

My only concern with Nolan Smith's injury, and it's the same as Nakobe Dean is that both of the rehabs severely limit their off season workout programs. I just hope they both come back at the same playing weight and in the same shape as prior to their injuries. Smith can do lower body stuff but not having any tricep use for some time is going to affect his upper body strength in the short term.

We need Nolan Smith to be everything he showed he was becoming and more.

Not really. I’m saying Howie has mismanaged and misidentified the position the past two years, but got bailed out with Fangio seeing something in Baun that no one else did. He better pay up.

Okay.  Now what is the AAV of the contract extension Garrett wants … and how much money will be guaranteed?

Garrett is already under contract.  He's not looking for a new payday, he's looking for a championship.

Sproles did not do much with the contract though.  He was injured for a good part of time and did not deliver much as the 3-down RB.

Thanks for those profiles. They are helpful.  Any thoughts on where to go for corroboration/second opinion(s)?

I just go on YouTube — lots of channels cut up games of specific players so you can see every touch they have or even every snap they play in rapid succession.

Usually 10 minutes long or so, and you can see the non highlight plays so every player doesn’t look like Jim Brown.

Baun was a priority signing for the eagles and they knew he could play off ball LB. It’s wasn’t just luck.

Still no QB coach. Hoping for Alex Van Pelt, I think he'd be a solid choice, but again, probably promotion.

Saints haven’t even announced Nussmeier yet.

Most of the top backs are very fast. Not sure about the depth of the class but, Omarion Hampton, Dylan Sampson and Treyveon Henderson are burners. Caleb Johnson is very fast too.

Sampson is probably the fastest in the class.

Those are 4.4 to 4.5 forty guys.

Johnson is definitely not the fastest of that group, much less the class. He reportedly ran a hand timed 4.51… not bad speed, but certainly not "fast” by NFL standards.

Henderson is the home run hitter. Gimme him in the second and Gunnar Helm in the third

Yeah, Henderson is my favorite of the guys who will likely go in the second. It wouldn’t shock me to see him sneak into the first.

He’s explosive for sure. I just don’t think he has elite speed. I’m expecting a good but not great 40.
