If the short term loan results in another Eagles Super Bowl win in the next two years is that not worth it?

No one trades that much draft capital for a 2 year rental. If we trade for him, Howie would immediately extend him; reducing his cap hits on his remaining deal and guaranteeing he’s here through his better years.

So the cost isn’t just what we trade for him, it’s what we’re giving up in the future. What sense does it make to re-sign Nolan when we’re spending so much on Graham+Huff dead cap hits and Myles’ megadeal. Bringing back Kobe now makes even less sense, especially if we re-sign Baun. Davis is probably gone as well. Jurgens also needs to be paid, and I wouldn’t be surprised to see a Saquon raise/extension coming soon than later.

And then add the draft capital, that’s a Quinyon and a Dejean and a Jurgens or a Milton and a Devonta and a Dickerson, or a  Nolan and a Goedert and a Hurts. Stripping Howie of his assets in his best drafting era.

Trading for Myles may end up meaning losing 5-6 pieces for now and the future. We’re already a SB championship caliber team, why risk that?

last year how said they ranked 22 players as first rounders.. we got lucky and several fell because of the qb’s and wr’s that were taken.
the question is how many players do we think howie values as 1st rounders this year? I don’t see us staying at 32 i either see us trading up 8-10 spots or trading out of round 1 (potentially even for a veteran player)

Baun was a priority signing for the eagles and they knew he could play off ball LB. It’s wasn’t just luck.

Howie first pitched Baun to Fangio as a backup edge/special teamer. It was Fangio who touted his off-ball skills. Baun had no idea he was going to be an off-ball LB. He went up to Fangio in camp and asked when he was going to rush the passer.

Sproles did not do much with the contract though.  He was injured for a good part of time and did not deliver much as the 3-down RB.

I would disagree with that.   In his first year, he scored 6 TDs as the 3rd down back.   He put up over 700 scrimmage yards each year of the 3 year contract, and 2nd team All-Pro his first year as the punt returner.   He was also the full-time punt returner all 3 years.

He did so much they extended him, a year at a time, until 2019.... so 3 more seasons after the initial 3 year deal.

He said himself it is absolutely not about monkey or contract, it is only about being able to play in January

That is correct.  The impetus is indeed chasing a ring, but his current contract is only two seasons. So (1) he will be looking for an extension and (2) if the acquiring team doesn’t extend him he is a very expensive two season rental.

Yeah, Henderson is my favorite of the guys who will likely go in the second. It wouldn’t shock me to see him sneak into the first.

He’s explosive for sure. I just don’t think he has elite speed. I’m expecting a good but not great 40.

Ill bet he goes under 4.4

Looking at potential mid-round gems at CB, Mello Dotson from Kansas would be a welcomed addition to the CB competition if Slay and/or Rodgers are not back.

6'1" 190 lbs

11 INTs in college over his career with 5 returned for TDs.

Really good instincts and hands.

Probably late RD3-RD4 to get him.

Interesting

The Flyers are buzzin!

Rank top 5 NFC teams (pre free agency) you think are the biggest threat to the Eagles in 2025.

1. Lions - still a lot of talent even with decimated coaching staff.

2. Packers - 2024 ended weirdly for them, I think they'll be back and take a step up from 2024.

3. Rams - Their defensive front is good and as long as they keep Stafford they'll be dangerous on offense. I was impressed by how a dome team didn't fold on the road in awful weather conditions.

4. Bucs - they had a lot of injuries and in 2024 went into a rut. If they hadn't, they'd likely have been a higher seed and won that division comfortably. Bowles always gives Hurts fits.

Exclusions:

Vikings - I can't see them sustaining what they did in 2024. They are not a 14 win team. Due for a regression year.

Commies - same with them. Had a lot of luck in 2024. Due for a regression next season.

49ers - don't think them bouncing back is out of the realm of possibility, but this feels like a transition offseason for them where they start turning some of the roster over and then they're gonna pay Purdy a lot of money. Deebo will be gone, maybe Kittle. Greenlaw and some other key defenders will be gone.

Cowboys -  lol.

If so he’s a first round pick most likely. I’m expecting something like 4.44

I'm throwing Commies to tier 1. They have 100 mil under the cap, the QB, 11 draft picks... Needle is moving in the right direction for them, unfortunately.

That is a great description of what the Eagles do best … collaborate, where the whole is greater than the sum of the parts.  Kudos to Howie Fangio and Baun who all were part of the success of that transaction.

The future does look bright for them. With that said, they need a lot to go right to take the next step. They need multiple starters on both sides of the ball and they need Daniels to stay healthy and not regress. He looks like a super star, but so have a lot of young QBs. Then defenses catch on to their habits and you need to see how they respond.

Yeah. While Fangio obviously made the decision on where to play him, people forget there was already tape of him in New Orleans as an off the ball LB and Howie signed him day 1 just like Barkley. He was a guy we targeted aggressively even if the cost was minimal.

Yeah... worth reliving.

I put the Commies in the first group.  They have lots of Cap space to get plug and play additions this Offseason.

Howie just needs to keep doing what he's doing with the draft and re-signing your core peeps. Getting too cute, if you're doing anything more than that, after winning a Superbowl with a young nucleus. Not like the 2018 team who won with vets mainly.

Yea, they are in line to add some serious talent before next year. Hate it.

Have not paid attention. Worth doing?  They are 8th, so they are in the mix, but aren't they just barely in it?  Think they'll get into the playoffs? Can they do any damage?  Seems like average at best.  Sell me (if you feel like it).  I'm not ready for baseball and feel like the Doyers are going to kick the living crap out of the National League.

I really don't see the need to bet but we can have a friendly rehash once the signing is made.

Why can't they just pay him 11 for 3 with 2 guaranteed and a ton of incentives.  He DEFINITELY should roll the dice on a bunch of walk up stuff. What kind of things can they do incentives on for an LB?  Games played, tackles but do they do TOs or no?  I am woefully ignorant on football contract stuff.

Redskins have passed the Bucs. They beat them in Tampa in the playoffs. And Baker Mayfield plays too much hero ball. Daniels doesn't beat himself. Redskins will get better with their capspace. They and the Lions are the main threats to the Eagles currently and can beat them if Eagles aren't playing their A game.

People are correct about you being contrarian just for reactions.  I just googled and found multiple articles.

He was awful in NO as an off ball linebacker, to the point of unplayable.

Obviously they saw something you didn’t.
