Rank top 5 NFC teams (pre free agency) you think are the biggest threat to the Eagles in 2025.

1. Lions - still a lot of talent even with decimated coaching staff.

2. Packers - 2024 ended weirdly for them, I think they'll be back and take a step up from 2024.

3. Rams - Their defensive front is good and as long as they keep Stafford they'll be dangerous on offense. I was impressed by how a dome team didn't fold on the road in awful weather conditions.

4. Bucs - they had a lot of injuries and in 2024 went into a rut. If they hadn't, they'd likely have been a higher seed and won that division comfortably. Bowles always gives Hurts fits.

Exclusions:

Vikings - I can't see them sustaining what they did in 2024. They are not a 14 win team. Due for a regression year.

Commies - same with them. Had a lot of luck in 2024. Due for a regression next season.

49ers - don't think them bouncing back is out of the realm of possibility, but this feels like a transition offseason for them where they start turning some of the roster over and then they're gonna pay Purdy a lot of money. Deebo will be gone, maybe Kittle. Greenlaw and some other key defenders will be gone.

Cowboys -  lol.

Rams trade Stafford and they immediately drop from this list

Obviously they did, because Howie mentioned his ability to play off the ball long before training camp.

After fangio told him that

No 1. threat next season...49ers...they will go all in as next SB is in the Levi stadium

People are correct about you being contrarian just for reactions.  I just googled and found multiple articles.

Can you post them?

Well, they’re going to pay Purdy a boatload and he’s terrible. Rag arm. No mobility. They’re welcome to that.  I think they’ve shot their load. CMC is a shadow of himself.

Disclaimer: the farther I get from the LOS, the less credible is anything I say. The 49ers being 3000 miles away, you can book them for the SB right now.

I think it’s still Detroit. Injuries destroyed them this season. Until that happened they killed everybody. Would have been a helluva game, them and us, both healthy. Not for the faint of heart.

I think losing Ben johnson will really hurt the Lions. Goff doesnt scare anybody. But they are built well.
should win their division pretty easy

For a long time, I thought we were on a collision course with Detroit. I was really curious to see how our defense would fare against their offense in their dome too.

Maybe we get to see it the opening Thursday night, though obviously at home. It’ll be interesting to see their offense minus Ben Johnson.

I dont think theyll be good.

Let's play a little game:

Jalen Hurts became the 13th QB to both win and lose at least 1 Super Bowl as the starting QB (with an asterisk for the Earl Morrall/Johnny Unitas Colts in SB III & V).

Who are the first 12?

They will also have a new DC.  That's the shame of a great season that ends in disappointment.  You still get raided for coaches, but without the parade.

Unless they hire Fangio Part 2.

Len Dawson, Bob Griese, Roger Staubach,  Joe Theismann,  John Elway,  Kurt Warner, Tom Brady, Payton manning,  Ben Roethlisberger, Russell Wilson,  Patrick Mahomes.  I can't think of 12

I’ll take the low hanging fruit, Brady, Peyton Manning, and Mahomes.

The one you are missing was an MVP of the league 3 consecutive years... including the back to back years he was the starting QB in the Super Bowl.  One win, one loss.

Why can't they just pay him 11 for 3 with 2 guaranteed and a ton of incentives.  He DEFINITELY should roll the dice on a bunch of walk up stuff. What kind of things can they do incentives on for an LB?  Games played, tackles but do they do TOs or no?  I am woefully ignorant on football contract stuff.

Saquon got over $3 million in incentives this year.  Some of them were for individual achievements and others were for team achievements. Here is what Sports Illustrated reported on that.

"Barkley's 2,005 rushing yards in the regular season already earned him $3 million in incentives. But a Super Bowl win would allow Barkley to take home $250,000 just for capturing his first ring, per ESPN's Adam Schefter. And after already earning $250,000 for the Eagles' NFC championship game win, the added stimulus from Philadelphia's potential Super Bowl win would bring Barkley's playoff victory incentives total to $500,000.”

Fangio must have been using a Ouija board... or Tarot cards then.   Because he clearly saw something that made him want to use Baun at ILB, and not EDGE.

Not only that, but he signed Baun on March 13th, the first day of Free Agency.  The same day he signed Saquon.  The whole process was proactive.

4 hours ago, jsb235 said:

Yup, so confident he could play off ball linebacker that they signed an off ball linebacker a few days later for a lot more money, then signed another off ball linebacker and then drafted an off ball linebacker.

Sure, it worked out. But this idea that anyone knew this kid could do for us what he couldnt do in NO is laughably false.

Who was signed as an off ball LB on March 12th?  One player … Nakobe Dean.  Howie HAD TO add at least 3 off ball LBs last offseason.

He didn’t know it until Fangio told him he and the personnel dept were wrong in their evaluation. They saw him as a backup edge/special teamer before Vic.

Source?

I believe he said that the tape showed Baun had the physical traits to play LB, not that it showed he could actually do it, which he couldnt early in his career. He also admitted that him actually being able to do it was lucky.

Do you know what the definition of, and primary responsibility of, coaching is?

My understanding is that the Saints never used him at ILB, only at Edge.

Told him that before they signed Baun.

The best managers surround themselves with people whose skills are better than the manager’s own skills … and the empowers those people to do outstanding things.  The whole is greater than the sum of its parts.

I live between SF and Sacramento, and all the radio stations in both those markets slobber over the Niners.  However, there has been a healthy dose of realism in their commentary this season.  There is far from a unanimous consensus that Purdy is a legitimate NFL QB.  Their D-Line is porous, as is their O-Line.  Deebo Samuel has imploded. Brandon Ayuk is a huge question mark.  Their DBs weren’t that good and are being depleted by Free Agency.  Bottom-line, they have more holes than Swiss cheese.  However, their biggest weakness is in the trenches, and that isn’t an easy fix.

Purdy has very small hands, which he seems to be able to overcome in perfect weather. They really hamper him in any kind of less than ideal weather though.  His ball rotation suffers.  His velocity and distance suffers.  And his ball security suffers.
