Becton and Baun combined will be roughly equal to Williams. Maybe a little more.

Slay and Sweat are independent variables. Sweat is gone regardless. Slay could leave or be brought back regardless in either scenario.

Do you think Williams makes our defense better than Baun?

No. Baun is number one. Not even a question. I have Williams number 2.

Right.

And you can’t have both Williams and Baun.

And we have a better plan B for Williams than we do for Baun. And you can keep both Baun and Becton for roughly the same price as Williams.

It’s really that simple.

I think Williams in his own right is becoming a beast and they will feed off of each other.  Eventually teams may have to pick their poison of Williams/Carter if he keeps beating one on one's and will think about double teaming him as well. He's in the process of becoming that guy. Still an unfinished product. As his snaps went up so did his production. Again, he got to the QB and made big plays and that's where the money is at. Ojomo not so much yet. Davis is going into his 4th year and still hasn't shown that knack. Can't assume Ojomo is Williams. Not there yet.

I didn’t ask that question.  Let me try again.  Do you think Williams made the jump he did this year because of himself or because of Carter?

If I can sign Becton to a long term deal at $13M I do it without hesitation and laugh maniacally as I sign the check.

That contract will be an absolute steal as the cap continues to increase. I’d be pushing for 4 or even 5 years.

It's a steal for another team, not to the Eagles with the present construction and cap space that is largely one sided to the offensive line and offense til 2028. Someone has got to work for cheap or you lose key pieces on the defense in that 4 year or 5 year deal and span.

So you are saying Baun is going for 12M and Becton for 8M? Because I have Williams at 20M tops. Those will be big hometown discounts if that happens. I'd be happy with Baun and Becton on those terms. With 15 teams with about 50M or more in cap space, I will be shocked if that happens. We will touch base when this goes down and compare.

I personally believe Becton will sign for no more than 3/30, but for the sake of this thought exercise let’s use TEW’s 3/39 … 13 per year. Right now Steen is 1.5.  That lasts a year and then he goes to 3/39, so the Cap savings is one year of 11.5.  Now you have to back fill the OG first off the bench.  Whatever you spend on that nets the 11.5 down some.  How many key pieces on the defense are you going to lose for one year of 11.5? Arguably none, but let’s be liberal and say you lose Burks.  That is one piece not multiple pieces, and not a particularly key piece as well.

Both. He's a beast beating one on one's which is the exact player you want playing next to Carter. No one else on the team shows that same productivity. Davis, Ojomo or whoever. At some point you credit the player. Do you want me to credit Carter for every Nolan Smith play as well? Doesn't make sense. Yes, he made the jump! He is not Jalen Carter though. We know that. And he won't get paid like him either, while producing very nicely.

Id like that too but it's all an act

I think the whole putting the Eagles jersey on and all that is an act. I think his irritation, anger and frustration with jerry and Cowboys is 100% real.

Truthfully, I'd be happy with Becton and Baun. But I am still very nervous giving up an up &  coming Milton Williams who beats one on one's regularly and feeds off of Carter. It's a great young duo. He may still have more upside as well. He actually had more sacks than Carter last year if you count the playoffs. And in way less snaps. He developed the clutch gene as well. I think he will just keep being that guy. My theory is those 2 together wreak so much havoc down the middle that it makes the entire defense better. Those 2 made Mahomes circle the eff out the whole game and turned him into a rookie. Can't get that thought out of my head. You can play jags like Burks behind them and still look dominant.

Keeping the window open is great, but they are built to win now. Keep Williams and let that line stay dominant. Trade Davis and cut JB June 1. You are right that behind Williams and Carter a lot of LBs would look good.

It’s a steal for any team, but ESPECIALLY the Eagles.

You’re getting a young guy who got all pro votes in his first season at a new position on a long term deal that will be below market value halfway through the contract.

He still has upside and might even be able to take over for Lane Johnson.

Absolute no brainer of a deal to get him locked up long term if he’ll agree to it.

In a few years Johnson will be gone and Barkley will be over 30 and so will AJ. They have a good shot again next year and I'm starting to want them to run as much back as possible.

Both. Carter drawing double teams allows Milton to use his unique quickness and skill set to beat one on ones.

If a team is going to give williams a bag and expect him to draw doubles and be a game wrecker theyre going to be disappointed. Not that he isnt a skilled player but hes not a game wrecker like carter.

Williams is to carter as robin is to batman.

Hes not batman

Okay, my bad, which changes the calculus to 23 million, 7.7 million per year over the three years.  Who is Howie going to lose on Defense for 7.7 million per year?

Agreed.  Take away the Carter double teams and how successful do you think Williams would be?

Why would you want to trade Davis?  How would the Eagles throttle the opponents’ running game if Davis were gone?
