Here are guys who might cost less that I think are semi-comparable to our top UFA's

Baun - Baron Browning
Milton - Dayo Odeyingbo or Osa Odighizuwa
Josh Sweat - Chase Young
Becton - Cam Robinson ?  Struggling with this one

Thoughts/Edits?

I’m sorry, but anyone who thinks it’s Williams > Baun is out of their minds.

Yep, and it's not particularly close if you ask me. It would be asinine to let Baun walk as a result of inking Williams to a deal north of $20M.

Why can’t you have both Williams and Baun?

Money. Williams will be almost double the price.

Well, you could, but then you’re talking about losing other guys like Jurgens.

No argument there. But, Howie was constantly looking to upgrade CB. LB has always been an afterthought. No one knew Baun would be the player he was last year. When he was signed, everyone was up and arms saying who? Howie was not looking to upgrade LB. He was bargain shopping. Yea, Fangio wanted him, but they struck gold by accident.

I want Baun back. He made big plays each and every game. I'm just trying to put myself in Howie's shoes based on his past moves. LB getting paid is beyond rare.

He was looking to "get by" at LB when he signed Baun, no doubt.  BUT, with new information, sometimes methods change.   I am going to go by the fact that Howie has often learned from previous mistakes and changed tactics when he's had struggles.   Its very possible this falls under that history of past Howie versus locking him into a single minded way of thinking.   So, I think, especially with input from Fangio, we will see Howie invest in Baun this offseason, and very likely it will happen just before the FA window officially opens.

Question… So the last couple of days a video has emerged of Jalen practicing already. Whilst I love that he’s focused and determined and putting in the work already it did make me think. Isn’t there a rule where QBs in essence aren’t allowed to throw a football until a certain date? Obviously I’m sure being closed doors Im sure they do but this is out in the open on socials. Maybe I’ve misread or misunderstood the rule.

They could take deals but Williams seemed to have made it clear that he's going where the money is and hopefully that's not us

We have the plan B for Becton as well

I didn’t say Becton, I said Baun.

Chase Young would be worth a flier if he hasn't earned a mid-level payday.  If he's still going year to year at a low cost then sure.  Hard to tell, sometimes they get paid and sometimes they have to take whatever they can get

I didn't know about that rule

I cant see Howie letting an All pro LB walk, Howie was in the building when Reid and Banner let Trotter walk which was a disaster that possibly cost them a trip to 2 more superbowls.

Will be interesting to see if Howie takes that into consideration in his thought process.

Fanatics numbers to date:

It's been great to get that infusion (once we get it), looks like it's died down, but there's still a trickle. Maybe after we Repeat, it'll be even more. Then our historic threepeat will be huge! Book it!

Counterpoint, Goedert hasn't played a full season in his entire career, you do not need to extend Goedert beyond this season you need a succession plan.

If someone like Gunnar Helm is still there in the late 3rd I wouldn't be surprised to see us take a swing

Then you have to drop him his cap number is over 15 i think

The rules are only about team/coach contact with the players.  Players are permitted to do what they wish during the offseason on their own.  One question I have is... is it smart for him to immediately get back to working on his arm, or should he give it a little bit of a longer rest period?   What do pitchers do?  And is that analogous?

This is just how I think the Eagles will approach things, not what I want in particular. I see a lot of arguments about Williams play being elevated by Carter and the same could be said about Baun. His play was elevated by Fangio's defense. We all saw Oren Burks come in and play at a very high level as well. I've posted his stats over the last 5 games of the season and he was good.

-The Eagles NEVER invest in LB.

-The Eagles ALWAYS invest in OL/DL

-Howie's homegrown talent doesn't get out of the building very often.

Williams will be their big $ spent. Burks will get a fairly significant pay raise to stay and hold down the fort until Dean/Trotter is ready to rock. They drafted Steen to be a starter, now's his chance.

Becton, Sweat and Baun walk.

Oof, the Baun decision hurts, as we don't have a credible replacement on the roster (unlike the DT/OG/DE conversation).

That’s for organized team activities run by the coaches I would assume. This is no different than Hurts going to the gym in his off time so I doubt there are rules against it. He’s in Texas working out, not at the team facilities.

Offseason rules as per the NFLPA.

https://nflpa.com/active-players/off-season-rules

No restrictions on when players can do things on their own, the only restrictions related to 'organized' team activities.

From the "FULL RULES"
During the offseason program period, except for the ten days of organized team practice activity and minicamps, players may be (1) at the Club facility no more than four hours per day, no more than four days per week, and not during weekends; and (2) on the field no more than ninety minutes per day. In addition, the Club may not specify to any player more than two specific hours a day during which it suggests that the player be at club facilities. Any player participating in an offseason workout program may select the other two hours in which he wishes to attend to conduct his weight training, etc., as long as he does so during the hours of operations of the Club's weight room. During the ten days of organized team activity, players may be (1) at the Club facility no more than six hours per day; and (2) on the field no more than two hours per day. Time limits at the Club facility and on the field for minicamps and for players participating in a Club's Rookie Football Development Program shall be as set forth in Article 22 of this Agreement.

There are no restrictions for what players do on their own... just WHERE they are allowed to do it.

They can’t work with coaches until a certain date. There’s no way to regulate throwing a football.

"A new Myles Garrett deal

Both sides appear to be playing a high-stakes game of "Chicken" where somebody will eventually blink. Garrett said he's willing to do whatever it takes to get out of Cleveland. What actions Garrett may take if the Browns continue to be adamant about keeping him remain to be seen.

Presumably, the acquiring team or the Browns will be extending Garrett's contract in 2025. Garrett's existing contract is outdated. In four years, he has gone from the league's highest-paid non-quarterback at $25 million per year to tied for the 20th-highest paid. Garrett had two years left on his rookie contract when he signed the extension.

Nick Bosa is at the top of the NFL edge rusher salary hierarchy with the five-year, $170 million extension averaging $34 million per year he received from the 49ers right before the start of the 2023 regular season. The deal has a non-quarterback record of $122.5 million in overall guarantees and $88 million fully guaranteed at signing.

The highest-paid non-quarterback is Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Justin Jefferson. He signed a four-year, $140 million extension last June averaging $35 million per year with $110 million in guarantees, of which $88.743 million was fully guaranteed at signing. The $88.743 million is the most ever fully guaranteed at signing for a non-quarterback.

A new Garrett deal should top Jefferson's $35 million per year. The contract Garrett signed in 2020 was a 6.38% increase over the top of the existing non-quarterback market. A similar increase this time around would put Garrett at $37.25 million per year.”

https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/agents-take-why-browns-dealing-myles-garrett-wont-be-easy-what-trade-compensation-for-star-could-look-like/amp/

So that article indicates he would rework his deal to make it easier to facilitate a trade.  Not take on an even larger cap hit that would make it more difficult to be traded.

Especially considering Nakobe is going to start the year on IR and may never return to form with that injury. Howie has little choice but to re-sign Baun at this point.

Players push other players all the time.  They'd have to define it as behind the line of scrimmage to not impact plays elsewhere.  Honestly Hurts would probably still be successful in a regular sneak a lot

I've said before they should just ban all plays that involve aiding a ball carrier whose forward progress has been stopped; that's how it used to be quite a few years ago.  At some point I think the NFL will get rid of it and quote something along the lines of "player safety".  It would be ridiculous it they banned it but still allowed the entire OL to start pushing guys forward on short passes or runs that are stopped in the middle of the field -- I see that with some regularity and consider it far more dangerous.
