The issue with Milton Williams, and the reason to let someone else overpay him, is that it seems highly possible/likely that his success is due to playing next to Jalen Carter. And the best evidence o

I think so.  Furthermore,  Steen is now in year 3 of his rookie deal, so if he does play pretty well as the starter in 2025 he'll be looking for a similar contract this time next year.  Only solution to save $$ at RG would be to let Becton walk, Steen starts next two seasons, let him walk, and draft his replacement this year or next.

Not that I would want to do that, but I do wonder if it makes the most sense financially short and long term in the front office's minds.

Sacrifices have to be made in the cap.  I think RG, 3rd WR, one DL, one S, one CB all have to be cost minimal starting positions on this team.

Love love love this! I wanted Carter or DeJean.

That was the exact two I debated between. Went with the exciting white.

Yeah, I tend to think that as well. I prefer to not use 1st or 2nd on a guard, but it would be possible. We did attempt to trade up for the RG/RT in round 1 last year.

And we spent A LOT of time on guards during the draft process last year.

People can debate the importance of Becton vs Williams, but what isn't debatable if the Eagles have much more money tied up into the OL right now than the DL. So if Howie wants money allocation balance, it would make more sense to pay Williams.

Those obviously aren't the only factors though.

Maybe they view Becton as a future RT after Lane. I think that would be dumb, but maybe they do, who knows.

Maybe they don't view Williams as a stud and view him as a rotational DT that's replaceable. I personally think he's an up and comer with his best football ahead of him, but again, who knows how they feel.

Definitely think the first two rounds are spent on DL and OL though. Given it's a great edge class, it almost feels too easy to project edge in round 1.

This is a post for the other blog, which is already locked for some reason.... anyone have a link for that "Call it" t-shirt with Siri holding up the Lombardi?

Have the Eagles ever let a young stud home grown DL walk under Howie? Or under Lurie for that matter?

Trying to think if there's ever been a high caliber 25 or 26 year old DT or edge that they themselves draft that they just let walk. I can't think of one under the Howie or Reid eras.

If you're referring to Milton, I did get Burgess flashbacks to '04.

Maybe that's when Howie took the can of beer to the noggin.

To some degree, yes.  But LMGM has a good point.  Dead money looks a little better than I thought.  Howie is using option bonuses that are not guaranteed in almost all the contracts.  Kinda like funny money.

X factor is also Keegan.  At one point they liked him. Obviously didn't do anything as a rookie. Think he was pretty beat up coming off NCAA champ run.  We'll see if year 2 shows improvement.

I like Keegan and thing he is just fine as the swing OG behind Steen

I love how Sirianni turns around trying to figure out wtf just happened

We've got a lot of free agent decisions to make but you know what feels good?  I trust Stoutland to make the right calls in maintaining the OL. I trust Fangio to make the right calls in maintaining the D. And I trust Howie to listen to his coaches when prioritizing those contracts. That is a massive advantage over most teams and even past Eagles squads.

The fans were mostly great yesterday....but really, what kind of f'ing moron do you have to be to think it's a great idea to hurl full cans of beer at people?

I was hoping to hear some potential OC names, but with Howie in the concussion protocol we might not hear anything for another week.

I wonder if they interview Scheelhaase again. Also interested in who will be QB coach if Nussmeier leaves. Maybe that could be the position Frank Reich comes on for. I think that's more likely than OC.

Includes the four void years.  They come due if he is no longer on the team.

That is one of the reasons I see him staying for one more season. Here is what Spotrac shows as his exit numbers in 2026 are under his current contract.  I suspect Howie and Slay will/can reduce those exit costs, but only if he plays 2025 as an Eagle.

PFF has its post-SB mock out and this is their pick for the Eagles.  Thoughts?

Think so too.  He was pretty good this year too.  And a team leader.  He has a $16mm non-guaranteed option bonus due before the start of next season.  No way the Eagles are paying that.  Ironically, Goedert has the same thing ($14mm) so he could be traded before then.

I think if you don’t hear this week then it’s Patullo for sure which I think is likely

If they can't sign Becton to a deal they like I think it is a likely scenario.   Unless Steen just plays so well it changes their minds.
