Looks like is Howie is going to play the draft here for the next 2 years and amass a lot of picks through trades. Use the 2026 stash to be aggressive this year. I see Davis and Pickett as gone for some picks. If Howie does what he did last year and duplicates the master class in the 3rd round it would be fine with me. He will play the high value game in free agency like unearthing another Zach Baun and Beckton last year, who signed pretty late. Guys like Burks, Rodgers and Fred Johnson may hang around for reasonable deals. If you are a betting man, sounds like 1 out of 3 stay from Baun, Williams & Becton. Simply, they feel like they will be priced out. Becton's odds are looking best here right now. May not agree with all of this, but trust Howie to execute such a plan.

Davis isn't going anywhere.  Eagles would be foolish not to pick up his 5th year option this offseason which is why they will pick it up.

And even some established guys under contract aren't coming back either.

I can see them going to the opposite extreme of what they did after 2017 where they kept everyone. Sweat gone, Slay gone, maybe Goedert.

Why?

Huff.  Bradberry.  Just depends upon how much dead money we can absorb.  Maybe Howie wants to eat a lot this year since CJ and JC are coming up.

He stuck around so long that I think he hurt his Hall of Fame resume.

Thanks for the ring, Saquon. Good luck on your next stop.

Trade him when his value is highest genius move by howie

He wants out but Browns GM has repeatedly said they have no intention of trading. So I'm curious if he'll hold out and just accept the fines

All true, but they should be trading him.  They're losing 14 games with him out there every Sunday, so which is more valuable?  Garrett, or the return for Garrett?   This will be the Browns' only opportunity to bring back a large return.

Of course, the theory only holds true if the team knows how to draft -- and Cleveland isn't exactly a destination city for free agents.

He did also say that fans shouldn't be getting rid of their jerseys just yet. So I think they're going to keep some guys. I've maintained all along I think Becton and Baun stay. Can't see them allowing 3 of the 4 to walk. But they may move on from a guy like Slay though. Maybe Goedert if they can't agree to a restructure, but I think he stays. He certainly won't be back at 16m though.

Slay definitely.  Goedert maybe.  Even Jordan Davis maybe.  I think very few FAs are back if any

Peters squeezed out as much money as he possibly could from the league. Good for him. Guy deserves it.

It's also a bit of a respect involved. He played a hall of fame career with them. Let him go get the rings because Browns are definitely not contending anytime soon

I just realized I'm going to be in Hong Kong during the draft.  The draft will be mid to late morning there; quite possible I'll have to check the results hours later ....

Considering the Eagles pick 32nd and easily could not pick at all you picked the right year

What would we expect Howie to say? He has to negotiate with agents. Was he supposed to say "the fans will be happy because I am ready to sign everyone to their dream deals. Agents just call and back up the money truck." He needs to set the tone that there are limits and if players want to remain eagles (1) the amount that the franchise values them counts and (2) the amount that they want to remain with the team counts. IMO he is just being a shrewd franchise-first GM which is what most have come to believe he is.

Yeah, but he basically said buckle up. You don't hear that often from him like that. All but MB are probably gone.

Jeepers, a negative take from you is so unexpected. I need to buckle up just to handle the divergence from your normal optimistic take...

I think I read somewhere the leadership strategy, "set expectations low and then over deliver." Could be.

Potential Eagles target

This makes it sound like almost everyone is walking aside from maybe one guy like Baun. I think Sweat and Williams played themselves out of their money range which is what you deal with for them dominating in the Super Bowl. You can’t keep everyone and I get that.

I'm not crazy about the way that sounds. Baun better be back, that's first and foremost.

Bring back Baun and I'm ok with letting everyone else go.  Baun is the only must-keep.

Could be why Eagles are waiting

Not sure I want a QB coach who got fired that quickly, but could be reasons other than incompetence.

He's been there 3 years including Purdy's rookie season which would seem to be a good resume item.  He actually turned down a chance to interview for Jets HC this year fwiw

There's talk Griese could be going to MI as OC

Doesn’t sound like he necessarily got fired. The wording is very peculiar.

Right and if he wasn’t fired then he’s going to MI. They wouldn’t let him go to Eagles unless contract was up
