Contrary to Myles Garrett, Matt Stafford did have a no-trade clause in DET and likely still has one with the Rams.  Hard to see any way on Earth that Stafford signs off on a deal to finish his career with the Giants

Way too big of a class. There aren't a lot of openings on this roster. I think we need to be more realistic in expecting 5 picks made this year. Either packaging up for the players they want, or trading out and getting picks next year.

I did plenty of trading out for next year picks as well.  When you look at the first five picks there is definitely room for all five on the roster.  Mondon is a flyer, but Caldwell would be good depth at NT.  Webb is fodder for Stoutland U.  The last two are flyers that resonate for me personally.

Unless the Garrett situation plays out a lot faster than I expect then I think most free agent decisions will happen first and I still think they all come down to do we think you’re valuable enough to us

Cleveland is in a tough spot.  Trade him and it's a $36 million cap hit for 2025.  They are already $34 million over the cap.  On March 16th they must pay Garrett an  $18.5 million bonus.

I think Stafford wants a 2 or 3-yr deal at top dollar so he might be willing to go to NY for 70 million guaranteed

They should trade him back to Detroit.

I don't believe he's worth a new contract

How much is making the opposing Offense one dimensional worth?

If you don’t know the answer to that question, ask Vic Fangio … or Andy Reid.

Its a good number of guys to retain. I could see howie let Becton walk and steen taking his place.

And baun?

I'm curious what Gainwell will get on the open market. I suspect not very much at all. But the Eagles just may be willing to move on anyway and just draft one.

Most likely scenario but I think Gainwell will be back.  He's a solid backup and, while not outstanding, he does his job.  Think he comes back

Two issues with Gainwell… because the FA class is so weak, and the running game coming back in style, I think he’ll get good offers from other teams viewing him as a guy who can get more touches in a rotation.

Second is the draft class is incredibly deep, so the eagles will probably see his spot as an easy way to save money with a rookie.

That said, they do like him a lot, so maybe the draft class dampens his offers. The problem is if Gainwell wants more money and/or a more prominent role he’s going to have to leave for another team.

If it's anything higher than like 2.5M per season let him walk. You can find 30 Kenny Gainwells in the draft every year

Teachers unions.

That's a pretty naive statement...there are many causes for lack of funding. In urban districts, a huge chunk of money goes to special education programs. Urban districts are inundated with students  who are exhibiting trauma-based behaviors, and are impacting schools. Those are federally mandated and the federal dollars do not cover near the cost, so the spending encroaches on general funds in big ways. In an urban district I worked in, the encroachment was so crippling that the district was actively looking for ways to redesignate students back to general education or worse...refusing to qualify students for special education.

Jeepers, a negative take from you is so unexpected. I need to buckle up just to handle the divergence from your normal optimistic take...

I think I read somewhere the leadership strategy, "set expectations low and then over deliver." Could be.

Here is  other negative take for ya

You also must have missed me picking the Eagles every playoff game and freaking LMGM out with my optimism.

You have to ask???!!!

He will be an Eagle for the 2025 season.

I like him a lot but I believe it is time to turn the page to a draftee.

My issue with Gainwell is he’s not good enough to carry the load if Saquon goes down with an injury.

Suddenly our offense becomes very one dimensional. Can Shipley do that, even in a rotation? I don’t think so.

So while Gainwell is a useful role player, he almost imposes weak depth at the position unless we are willing to carry a 4th RB.

I’d much rather go with one of the many talented rookies this year who you can get in the mid rounds that might actually have starting level potential. It seems to me to be a major weakness in our depth that could be a season killer. Obviously you aren’t getting another Barkley, but if you can get a legitimate starting level player on a cheaper contract I think it would go a long way towards fortifying our title defense.

For the love of god just retain Baun pls

yf1nbc0z7dle1.png

Early in the year when it was clear Baun was having an incredible season, I posted that Howie would think he's a moneyball LB whisperer who can identify and pick up LB's anywhere and have them be adequate to good starters like he did with TJ Edwards, Kyzir White, Morrow and Cunningham, so Baun might not get a second deal.

By the end of the season I was convinced that there was no way on Earth even Howie let's Baun walk, but holy ish if the crazy bas***d isn't thinking about it.

I suspect they know what kind of market he’s going to get and they know they can’t do that high. I think Baun is gone but that’s a complete gut feel.

The Rams are trying to move Stafford and Kupp to free up cap space, why would they immediately take it up again with Rodgers and Adams?

If they do this, I believe their goal is more about acquiring draft capital for 2026 than cap savings now

I actually think Baun is the ONE they re-sign.  LB salaries in comparison to DT, Edge and Guard (top tier players) are less.....if you are going to let a lot of guys walk (like is being inferred by Howie's comments), just bring back Baun.  Steen takes over for Becton (younger guy), Ojomo for Williams and Hunt for Sweat.  Yes, you had better start building some depth with signings, draft.

But surely what you've posted is pretty much exactly the conventional wisdom and what everyone expects him to do? Is there a single person on here who seriously expects to see Sweat and Williams back? Becton is pretty much a wash between people who think he's vital to the O Line and people who think his pass protection isn't where it should be for top end guard money.

Howie is saying 'it may not look like the fans expect', I would say the conventional wisdom on this board is that Baun comes back with one other at most, and that Sweat and Milton are likely looking at getting bigger offers than we can accommodate, like Javon Hargrave was two years ago.

Mentioned it the other day but Chase Young had 66 pressures which was 7th in the league and don't think he will be Uber expensive

I didn’t even realize he was a FA. That would be a great addition.
