What's the long term prognosis for a football player?    If its good... I still take him at #32.

I dont have stats. But I really cant think of a time someone didn't make it back from this.

Also, it may be a good sign that theyre calling it a stress reaction, rather than a stress fracture. That could be media guys incorrectly using the terms interchangeably. OR, it could mean they caught it early enough that theres actually no crack in the bone yet (but in this case I dont think theyd be operating).

That line of thinking consistently fails at TE. Thats how you become the falcons.

Helm is a perfect fit for us and can probably be had in the third

That line of thinking is why Kelce and Gronk and Gonzalez are all arguably the greatest to ever play the position. Throw in Gates as well.

What are you even talking about?

Brashard Smith, SMU Mustangs

Bhayshul Tuten, Virginia Tech Hokies

Marcus Yarns, Delaware Fighting Blue Hens

One of the most physical runners in the class, who is also already very good in pass pro- Im very interested to see Monangai's workout. People slept on Pacheco from Rutgers even after his combine 4.3 40. If Monangai is athletic, he should boost his stock. Or he could be another steal late.

Put on your prognosticator hat... How far could this potentially push him down, if at all?

From the sound of it, he's likely to skip out completely on the Combine and any Pro Days, except for the interview portions.

Stress reaction, not at all.

Stress fx requiring surgery, and months of missed time, pretty far, but youd have to look at the teams ahead of us and try to figure out who would be ok waiting for their 1st round pick to get on the field.

There are a number of teams who would take him ahead of 32.

I really hope the Giants draft him. There's always going to be a circus around him.

Vikings? Didn’t they draft a young QB last year who they haven’t seen play yet? And the Saints aren’t exactly drafting high right?

I guess you could eliminate the teams with HCs and/or GMs on the hot seat.  But, I couldn't imagine a team with an entrenched HC or GM that wouldn't wait for that level of talent.

I think, outside of landing here, Pittsburgh would be an ideal landing spot for him.  But, I could see Vrabel being that level of aggressive and taking him at #4, even with the delay.

Well... even if there were no teams who would take him ahead of 32, there would still be a number of teams, just that number would be zero.  :P    But yeah, I think the number is likely in the 20s, at the very least the high teens.

Yes, the Vikings drafted JJ McCarthy last year, who got hurt before the season started.   Saints hold #9.

So I’d say the Vikings are not going to be in for him. I also think they are drafting in the 20s? Saints could be in play though actually… He could still be there at #9 or maybe a little trade up.

Yup, #24.

On the subject of Abdul Carter... if he starts to slip... the odds of him slipping further seem to diminish with each passing pick.

There are so many teams that 'need' an EDGE... but even teams that might not NEED one would likely be hard pressed to pass on him.  But, once you get to the playoff teams... nearly ALL of them need an EDGE.

#31 - Chiefs had virtually no pass rush against the Eagles, even with their exotic blitz packages.
#30 - Bills defense is so weak, and the quickest way to make the entire D better is with a great pass rush.
#29 - Washington's best EDGE is a free agent, and old. (Dante Fowler).
#28 - Lions have Hutchinson coming back from injury.  Could you imagine pairing him with Carter?
#27 - Ravens would be an ideal fit for him.
#23 - Packers had no pass rush against the Eagles either.  Maybe due to their 'mush rush' plan, but it wasn't effective at all.
#22 - Chargers... Harbaugh loves having a strong defense. Bosa is old, Mack is old and a free agent.
#21 - Steelers - as with the Ravens... he seems to be an ideal fit.

The only way he could possibly slip all the way to #32 would be if its a surgery situation and he'll definitely miss the whole first season... maybe more.   Looking back, Sydney Jones was widely considered the top CB that year in the draft, maybe the 2nd best, but no worse than that.  When his Achilles went, he slipped all the way to the middle of Round 2, pick #43.   Turns out he wasn't the best of that bunch by a long shot.  Though I still wonder to this day how much that Achilles injury messed with his head.  CB is just such a 'confidence' position.  If you don't have confidence in your own body, how can you play with that level of swagger?

Anyway... surgery would be the only hope for Carter to legitimately fall to #32.  And even then, that labyrinth of teams at the end of Round 1 just seem like any one of them might be willing to pull the trigger on him, even if they know he has to sit out a full year.

No chance he drops to the Eagles.  Embiid with an actual stress factor dropped to 3.

Worst case scenario is he drops to the Giants or Cowboys

That $22 million Cap hit is going to happen regardless of whether he is kept or traded.  The only difference is timing.  If he is being kept around just for Cap purposes, with no intention of letting him play, what are the chances that he won’t become a locker room cancer?

I know FA and the draft are still ahead of us, but right now there's just nothing behind Smith and Hunt. The intent is to have him in a situational pass rush role and get more out of him. He was still 30th in pass rush win rate and had an incredible get off time, obviously you want more for what was paid but he's not a bum out there.

There's almost a $16 million cap difference between trading Huff this year vs post June 1st him in 2026. You can either use the cap and have the player give you situational snaps, or you can throw it all in the trash.

The Eagles have met with edge rusher Princely Umanmielan at the NFL Combine, per Mike Payton.
Princely Umanmielen, an edge rusher from Ole Miss, is a 2025 NFL Draft prospect with a strong collegiate resume. Standing at 6’4” and weighing around 255-264 lbs, he transferred from Florida, where he played four seasons, to Ole Miss for 2024. That year, he recorded 10.5 sacks, 14 tackles for loss, and 37 tackles, earning First-Team All-SEC honors. Known for his speed, length, and explosive get-off, Umanmielen excels as a pass-rusher, with a notable spin move and solid bend around the edge. While his run defense needs refinement due to leverage and strength concerns, his athleticism and production project him as a potential early-to-mid Day 2 pick, with some analysts eyeing a late first-round ceiling. His Senior Bowl performance further boosted his stock.

Low chances.  Guys getting paid more than he should.

Bryce Huff is not getting cut. It's trade or stay.

I pretty much agree.

My only two areas of contention would be with Shemar Stewart and drafting a guard.

On Stewart, I think he has the potential to be a guy who gets you 8-10 sacks per season, but he hasn’t shown it in college and the tools are there. It’s all projection for him as a pass rusher. His floor is more as a big DE who shuts down the run. The potential is what makes him go in the first round instead of the fourth.

At guard, and OL in general, I’m pretty down on this class. The guys you mentioned all have talent, but I don’t see any world beaters. Are they really that much better than Steen to the point you’d use a first round pick? For me, if we are looking at a first round OL they need to be able to play tackle. At least that way they can provide quality depth where we don’t have much. I think I’d wait and look for a developmental OT in the later rounds and roll with Steen and Keegan as the RG and backup OG respectively even if we let Becton walk (we won’t).

Safety isn’t a position I’ve considered much since our top 3 are pretty well entrenched. I suppose if someone unexpectedly drops you could take them, but I don’t think we’d be looking in that direction with how our roster currently is built.

I think the best way to maximize value is at DL. It’s a need and it’s one of the few positions you rotate anyway to get them reps to develop.

I’ll add I wouldn’t be shocked if we go with a RB. Our entire offense revolves around Barkley. What happens if he goes down for 6 games? He doesn’t have the best injury history to start with and all we have is Shipley behind him. He’s only got 2 years left on his deal as well.

Getting Hampton or Henderson would probably make some people mad but it would be a shrewd move in my view. Our offense is instantly one dimensional if Barkley gets hurt. Grab one of those top RBs and you can take some of the wear and tear away from Barkley and you have an insurance policy if he gets injured.

Thank you both.  Very helpful.  Am watching this because we could do very well in the draft.
