I get it but you'd hate it a lot more of Mitchell or DeJean tore their ACL playing the final drive.

Ohhh no.....you misunderstand.  I was thrilled that they pulled everyone and gave Nick a bath with 2 minutes to go!  I just look at 40-22 and know, it was SOOOOOO much more of a beating than that is all 🙂

The way I look at that last long TD is that Mahomes probably would have driven on the backups and scored with seconds left if they hadn't given up the big play.  The big play just let them kill 1:40 of clock with kneeling and no player exposure

It's not that I don't want Myles Garrett.  It's that I'd rather have Milton Williams, Josh Sweat and Zack Baun.

Although -- Myles Garrett next to Jalen Carter would just be so unfair.

I like him already.   Future legend.

Out of all of these, I only see Baun as a high priority. Everyone else can go seek a better deal somewhere else. Only ones I would want on team friendly deal would be Burks and Rodgers. It doesn't make sense to pay Becton a team friendly deal when you have Steen. Plug Steen in and draft another OG.

If they are going for Garrett, they will probably need to have Baun take a team friendly deal.

I am going to play the Myles Garrett game because we have time to kill.  Which of the following would you? Yes or No to each

1. Sign only Baun and cut Slay & Goedert

2. Trade 2 1's but make Browns take Bryce Huff and sign only Baun and cut Slay

3. Sign no free agents and cut Slay and trade this year's 1 only

Huff is a monumentally better fit for Schwartz than Fangio. I think he'd have real success there. Eagles would probably have to take on some of Huff's salary to include him in the deal (if that's possible).

I'm not sacrificing re-signing Baun. I've said before, you could have the whole All-Pro DL, if the middle of your defense is swiss cheese a good QB is picking you apart.

So if money is right and real sacrifices have to be.made, I pose the question...

Baun or Goedert?

Sheil's free agent projections:

Milton Williams - 18m per season

Baun - 14.5m per season

Sweat - 16.5m per season

Becton - 9m per season.

On the Philly Special pod he, EJ Smith, and Shawn Syed made their predictions based on his projected numbers and they all thought Eagles would keep Baun, and everyone else would leave at those numbers, except EJ Smith said if Milton Williams only got 18m per on the open market that the Eagles would keep him.

Surprised they think the Eagles would let Becton go at only 9m per. That would only be the 11th highest paid RG in the NFL. Big reason is because I don't believe the Eagles are high on Tyler Steen.

Yes to first two.

Does #3 mean we don't sign a single one of our free agents too? If so, that would have to be a no. Our starting CB's would be Mitchell/Ringo and then Maddox/Ricks as backups. Our starting LB'ers would be Trotter Jr and BVS. Our D-Line would be really thin as well. All that sounds like a disaster.

I still don't believe they will make a serious pursuit of Garrett. Everyone always links Eagles to big time guys, this is probably nothing more.

Howie himself poured ice cold water all over this. Obviously it could be a smokescreen or GM talk but he doesn't typically make as strong of a statement on rumors like he did the other day.

Here’s why Myles Garrett will not be an Eagle…

Becton - 9m per season.

Too low.  Becton has been playing at a high level, and given his size, his original draft position, and perceived versatility of moving around from G to T, he'll get at least what Brandon Sherff got with the Jags ($10m).  $9m per season would be a home team discount

I could see 9m. He's a one year wonder, who some will argue on tape wasn't as good in pass pro as it seemed to the layman's eye, and I'm sure some will wonder if he was a Stoutland product. And has a history of injury issues. Maybe he'll get more, but wouldn't surprise me if teams are hesitant with him.

Overall issues with paying Becton

  • We can't pay everyone and paying Becton would mean paying 5 starters on the OL real money. I'd rather pay another EDGE.
  • Having no young OL is also a problem long-term
  • I would argue that the way we run our offense, RG is the least important position.
  • If there's one position where we can find low-cost options and succeed, it's OL due to Stoutland
  • Becton's injury history is still very real
  • Becton's struggled with his weight in the NFL. It's fine to bank on that in a contract year, but how does he react after he gets paid?
  • Becton is comfortably the worst of the 5 OL. He's a Home run/strike-out type of OL. His best players are crazy, but he's also getting beat on stunts/games a ton. He's not great at recognizing that. Most of our bad OL games were due to Becton. The highs were high though.
  • He's fine as a pass-blocker. Teams absolutely try to pick on him, but that's just as much as not wanting to test Jordan-Lane and Dickerson to a lesser extent.
  • To help out Jalen, I would like to see a shorter RG to help him see. Jalen is not tall and IMO it's one of the reasons he doesn't test the MOF. Having a mammoth RG doesn't exactly help that. Of course Steen is big too, but he's not the giant that Becton is.

There's just too much risk for me.

Reminded me when Chip brought out those rackets and had the QBs practicing throwing lanes

Baun, Graham and BVS are the only guys I really care about returning.

When she says young players does she mean Free Agents or does she mean potentially trading a player under contract? Is it something where Howie would include one of our young defensive players coming back in a trade? I am not thrilled with that idea. Sending Nolan Smith back for Myles Garrett and sending a first round pick would make the roster worse in my opinion. I would rather have an ascending Nolan Smith + a draft pick than Myles Garrett. Even sending a player like Jordan Davis back would weaken the roster significantly.

Milton Williams - Patriots, Bears, Panthers, Cardinals

Josh Sweat - Panthers, Bucs, Packers, Cardinals

Teams I think will be in on Sweat and Williams

Stop fat-shaming

Becton is an interesting case.  Very talented, not had a level of consistency over his career and bloomed on a well coached and talented line where he had less pressure on him. Some teams will be ok with the risk and others will pass.

Milton Williams is an easier projection and less of a risk.  He fought for PT, etc.

Russini is very connected.  I don't think she would just make this up without a good source.
