One of the things that I keep coming back to is the $16,438,000 of dead money we are carrying for Josh Sweat to be off the team in 2025. I really wonder if Howie tries to extend him before the contract voids on the new league year to reduce the 2025 hit and kick the can. From a 2025 perspective, it would be cheaper to extend him than to let him walk. You need to rip the band aid off at some point, and maybe the time is now (they took the hit for Reddick last year in full). But just an odd dynamic that, at least for this season, it would save money to extend him.

Of course, Sweat hired Rosenhaus, which makes me think he is going to test the open market. If he gets to FA, then the $16,438,000 crystallizes, and there's basically no chance we bring him back.

Takes two to tango, and Sweat already showed his cards.  He wants a new deal and to get paid.  He'd likely be open to coming back here... if they opened up the check book.  But there's really no upside for ANY of the free agents to sign before free agency starts.  These guys are all extremely likely to hit the market... but Howie will be clear about which ones he prioritizes, and we'll likely hear something early on about most of these guys right at the beginning of the tampering period.

I don't think Howie cares all that much. That same number of dead money is hitting the 2025 cap for Kelce retiring a year ago.

Yeah, we are at $60mm total for 2025. I think if he could get Sweat for a decent number he'd do it and push the $16mm down the road, but Sweat isn't going to do that.

The only one that maybe he gets done before FA starts is Baun, IMO.

Clearly, Howie has been pushing as much money as he can into 2029 and after -- the NFL can opt out of its TV deal after the 2028 season, so he's likely betting on a large increase in rights fees and the cap.

BG retore his tricep in the Super Bowl and had to get another surgery.

Okay .... those are big letters.  I'm convinced.

As I predicted.

There was no miraculous recovery. I said, I bet he just wants to play and will just get surgery again if he re-tears it. Knowing its his last chance to play, and its the super bowl...

Sheil's free agent projections:

Milton Williams - 18m per season

Baun - 14.5m per season

Sweat - 16.5m per season

Becton - 9m per season.

On the Philly Special pod he, EJ Smith, and Shawn Syed made their predictions based on his projected numbers and they all thought Eagles would keep Baun, and everyone else would leave at those numbers, except EJ Smith said if Milton Williams only got 18m per on the open market that the Eagles would keep him.

Surprised they think the Eagles would let Becton go at only 9m per. That would only be the 11th highest paid RG in the NFL. Big reason is because I don't believe the Eagles are high on Tyler Steen.

I heard that podcast on Spotify. He's low on all of them and way off on Becton.

My predictions hold from 2 weeks ago as:

Baun-3/45

Becton-2/25

Williams-3/63 or 4/84

Actually feel all can sign for higher, but not lower. Especially Becton, now that Trey Smith is off the market. Sweat is getting $18-20M, but of course won't be here.

I forgot about that 😄

You cant get Garrett at the expense of Baun.

We have had great pass rush before and still got picked apart because the LBs were susceptible in the middle of the field, allowing for the quick passing game to dice us apart.

You only get max value out of an expensive Garrett trade by still having LBs.

I WANT Garrett and Baun.

But if I had to choose one or the other, then Ill take Baun, and a trade up for Campbell- a dominating pair of LBs combined with our already excellent DL that will still feature Jalen Carter, Nolan Smith, and solid rotational players.

Am I the only one that doesn't really want Myles Garrett?  I won't cry myself to sleep if we get him, but I just don't like the idea of giving up loads of draft capital and signing him to a huge extension at 30 years old.  He is already on the downward slope of his prime.

Our biggest problem is Howie has drafted way too many studs these last 4 years, meaning we are going to have to pay up next year (Cam Jurgens), the year after (Jalen Carter, Nolan Smith), the year after (Cooper Dejean), and that trend will continue.  Keep this team young, ferocious, hungry, and most of all.....together.  There will be fallout for some of these guys if we trade for Garrett and extend him.

They are not trading for him, but it's good fodder though and we can make the paying team pay more assets for him by acting interested. Hopefully the Commanders. Howie is on a roll with the draft and does not need to force things like Morey and star hunt. And of course get burned in the end. Just keep dominating the draft and extend that window.

I can't help but wonder if the Browns are throwing the Eagles name out there to drum up interest in Garrett, because everyone knows he will do a deal. Do you want Howie to have that DL playing together for 3+ years?  I don't doubt all 31 teams are interested, but the Browns want the best value, and the Eagles are a great boogeyman to put out there.

Was it a similar feeling to when you literally shoved a giant goose egg up your gaping hole, Cumm Jergens?

I would be way more excited to keep Baun than I would to pay a king's ransom for Garrett.

I'm of 2 minds with Garrett. The 1st is exactly what you're saying, although I think there's no way the Eagles offer 2 1s or anything close to the projections out there.

My other mind? Reggie White had 16 sacks and won DPOY in year 14. Garrett's not Reggie, but there's some tier where these guys are just flat out different. And we just got 5 good years out of a CB we acquired when he was 29.

There are conversations every business has that look awful in retrospect.  Quite why any well run team would allow in TV cameras to the FO and then broadcast that conversation, is beyond me. No surprise teams are saying Nah Bro, to the NFL

Agreed.  I can't get a good feel for  what they're going to do with him.  I flip flop every other day.  Yesterday, I was 100% confident Baun would be back.  Today, that stupid article comes out that says he will have a lot of suitors.

Nope, I dont want any part of him, its not like hed be the missing piece, they won the SB without him.

The benefits to me just dont outweigh the cost of picks cap room etc...

Rather keep a couple key guys like Baun then continue to build through the draft and smart FA moves
