First of all Ojomo has 2 years left. Second of all, I'm going by Fangio's actions and my eyeballs that this player is not worth $13M currently.15 snap average in 4 playoff games suggests that as well.

I am putting that 13M to other resources like Baun at minimum and the upcoming extensions. If he wasn't from GA (Carter's buddy) we would  probably say he was mid. Still peeps trying to defend that we traded 4 picks for him and hoping. Sometimes, you have to cut bait and salvage some value. Also, his PFF run grade score, which is his dominant specialty according to all here.

2023-62

2024-58

We will see.

I don't pray at the alter of PFT.

This corner class just isnt impressive

Indeed. The really bad pass protection breakdowns this year came from Jurgens, e.g. the safety to pick one. Not from Becton, who failed to read two stunts early in the year. Both plays involved the DE or OLB on the extreme defensive left looping around two DL with the DL who lined up over Becton crossing his face from right to left. That’s a lot for a guy who never played guard to pick up. So, two sacks allowed before the bye and one (count ‘em, one) in the following 16 games. Well, 14, because he missed two with a concussion.

I forget what pundit it was who said the Eagles have only three running plays: inside zone, outside zone, and pin-and-pull. That’s pretty much true and most times their OZ or P&P go to the left, with Becton pulling. I would argue that we also run a split zone but that’s really an IZ with a TE crossing against the flow - it gives the RB a cutback option. Anyway, yes. I agree that he is our most important run blocker, just as Brooks was when he was the RG.

We lack depth on our OL. There! I said it! After Steen we have journeymen. Fred Johnson got exposed. I have hopes for Keegan, who couldn’t see the field, and after that nothing. And that notion that Stoutland can spin gold from straw, well, no.
How about Becton being too big? Silly. Yeah. Let’s have a bunch of six footers, physically outmatched rather than the other way around.

I made a less than laudatory comment about Jurgens earlier. I should modify it. He was for the most part terrific, as good as any C in the league. Those errors I mentioned came more from an excess of enthusiasm than anything else. He has to develop a little more patience in pass pro. Delayed blitzes and stunts give him trouble at times. Experience and Stoutland will cure that.

Obviously there is a dollar amount Howie will not go past. If Becton can get more elsewhere he’s free to do so. If it’s close I think he’ll stay but what do I know?

Finally, my key argument: Mailata went on camera and asked Howie to bring Becton back. In so many words. That carries more weight with me than any of my arguments.

This is another big issue that I didn’t mention in my post but have commented on previously.

Not only would Steen be a huge downgrade, but it would totally cannibalize our depth. Our primary backup becomes a starter and what do we have on the bench? Keegan who is untested. And that’s basically it.

So what’s the plan? Draft another rookie? OK, so another top 100 pick? Because that’s what it would take to get someone you could have even a modicum of confidence in as a backup. And most likely they’re not ready to contribute for an extended period of time. So you’re praying we don’t have more than one injury at a time because anything more than that becomes a potential crisis.

This blasé attitude where we can just throw anyone on the roster at OL and Stoutland will magically turn them into a good player is infuriating. Our OL is incredible because we have incredible talents.

Mailata is near 400 pounds yet has abs and the endurance to play rugby. Dickerson is near 340 and literally does spin moves when passing off blocks to pick up a stunt. Jurgens is arguably the most athletic center in the NFL. Lane Johnson might be the single most athletic lineman in the history of the sport.

So then we get to Becton, who is basically Mailata’s size and has the athleticism to pull, to work to the linebackers and safeties and hit guys 150 pounds lighter than him in space while moving at full speed.

THAT is why our offensive line is so great — because our players are like characters out of a high fantasy novel that the protagonist brings on his adventure to get him through the undead armies. Yes, Stoutland is an incredible coach, but his genius is in helping players fulfill the sir potential, not it conjuring non-existent potential from the ether.

We all watched the Super Bowl. Does anyone want to be on the receiving end of the chiefs offensive line performance? Because downgrading talent and cannibalizing depth is how you get that outcome. If anything, I’d be looking to keep Becton and improve depth, particularly at OT.

Embiid out for season.

It'll be about 2030 when the sixers are worth watching again.

I'm not anti-Becton. I'm just against paying him market value with our salary cap space. Mailata should want to bring him back! But Jordan is not managing the salary cap is rightfully one of the highest paid OT in the NFL.

Jurgens also struggled with pass protection breakdowns. No arguments there.

I'll throw this out another way: would you rather extend Jurgens or Becton? Because resources are finite, we might only be able to afford one of them.

Sign both, go cheap on defense.

I have no idea if Darien Porter is actually good, but his profile is fascinating.

Compelling logic…😄

your takes get progressively worse anymore. Buying into the fad thinking around positions like TE and OG. Doesnt matter what they measure at. Matters how they play and fit

Jurgens no doubt

Yeah, like I said in my post, he’s the most important run blocker on the team (from what they ask each player to do) and arguably the best. It’s a huge drop off to Steen. I honestly don’t know what games you’re watching.

What’s fad thinking is that OGs aren’t important and Stoutland can just throw anyone out there.

Any chance 76ers say Embiid messed his knee up in the Olympics and can get some kind of settlement and him off the cap?

He is not the most important run blocker on the team. So the foundation of the argument is entirely faulty. Try again

If they can convince him to retire they'll get the money back 1 year after retirement so,  the sooner the better.

In his first big extension they had injury clauses in the contract that protected them.

I hope they did that again.

OL market isn't slowing down

This last contract extension was predictably one of the dumbest moves they could have made. There was no reason to extend him this early.

So, just a little factoid in regards to Becton/Jurgens.....the other 3 OL all make over 20,000,000 a year, we have 60,000,000 tied up annually between Lane, Landon and Jordan.  I get that you want to keep Becton...but we are going to have to extend Jurgens and are you supposed to have 80 to 90 million tied up in your offensive line alone???

The Carter sack.

Yes, he is. He’s the guy most often pulling and climbing the ladder to the second level. He’s the guy who is most responsible for our explosive run plays.

You have to pick one of the three for both DE and DT for the Birds current roster who do you take and why?

DT

TJ Sanders
Alfred Collins
Omarr Norman-Lott

DE

Donovan Ezeiruaku
Princely Umanmielen
Jack Sawyer

I would be happy with either Sanders or Norman-Lott, but would choose Sanders.  Probably Princely in choice #2
