Yep. The drop off from Kelce to Jurgens was maybe a couple of dozen plays for the whole year. Kelce was on the downward slide and knew it before the rest of us could see it. One or two plays a game. A missed line call. Failed blitz pickup.

As for Becton, Steen had no second level blocks of consequence, nor P&P blocks. His pass pro was good but even though he’s 35-40 pounds lighter, he doesn’t move like Becton. No comparison on IZ blocking. I mean an order of magnitude. Steen was a high draft pick; Becton fell out of the sky, yet Stoutland went with Becton, injuries aside.

Here’s my bottom line: I think this OL is the best in NFL history. There have been better individual players - good as Mailata is, Peters was better, just to stay close to home. As was Jonathan Ogden. But five guys each of whom are no worse than 3rd best among current players? Never happened.

This is the engine that drives the train. Leave it the F alone.

So the dream scenario would be Huff and a future #1 pick for Garrett … Baun and Becton both sign extensions and Howie drafts Walter Nolen or Jihaad Campbell at #32.

I’d be very surprised if Howie’s plan at edge was Smith, Hunt, Huff and rookie. Shocked even. I’m not sure what other name will be in there besides the Garrett pipe dream but I just don’t see him banking it on the first 4

Graham coming back for one more year.

I'm skeptical of Garrett getting his wish to be traded to Philly. (If that really is his wish) That being said, him getting here does not close or shorten any windows.  He could be dominant for the next 5 years and he would make this place even more of a destination for 1 year deal reclamations or ring chasers that still have something left.

I have no idea how they pay for Jurgens and then Carter even if Garrett does not get here but caps go up and void years gonna void and who knows.

They won a SB without him and he'd only screw the current plan up. They'd lose picks and players and be up against it in 2 years for Carter. The guy is 29 not 26 and the youth movement was just successful. I don't get why Howie would deviate.

You are taking the benefit of 20/20 hindsight.  What Kelce to Jurgens drop off did you anticipate at this time last year?

I thought Jurgens would be better at center than he was at guard. A year in the system, a year of coaching, and a move to his natural position.

Even without hindsight my expectation was we wouldn’t notice much if a difference. As JR said, Kelce had started to decline a bit as well.

Steen in his second year got some playing time and was decent, but not as good as Jurgens was as a rookie.

I think that is a long shot but it would be welcome depth.  figuring out what the heck to do with huff is also critical.  they have to make the right call with him.  he has to produce if they keep him.

I agree Williams, sweat, becton are all gone.  We may be outpaced for baun too, that would mean they probably have to sign at least one free agent.  And linebacker continues to be a need even after that.  I think this is the year they have to consider drafting a linebacker with a high pick.  Not first round, that's for the line, but maybe 2nd or 3rd.  We need some talent there.  Who knows when Dean comes back and if he does what type of player he will be.  that was a significant injury.

I think there are some intriguing guys that could be made available to fill some needs, if they are willing to come over for the chance at a superbowl.  Mack, maybe bosa from chargers if he's released as has been rumored.  I'm also intrigued by the TE in Vegas, Mayer, might be someone Howie should kick the tires on to see what it would take.  Although he may be more in the mold of calcaterra and not a blocker?

It's going to be a fun ride this offseason.

I think it’s time to let him retire. He played better than expected in limited time and then got hurt made a miraculous comeback sort of and got hurt again. Let him go out on top rather than doing damage to his body at an older age

BG should retire and take the path of some other former players and work in the organization in some capacity. Like a player mentor or something to hang around and motivate the young guys.

Which one was Becton?

Well, the Eagles saw him as #2, Jets as #3.  And, well, Jets.

They could hire him as team trash talker

dude is so funny

A couple EDGE's I would be fine with nabbing round 3 or so, would be Swanson or Sorrell.

Not sure why the second one posted upside down.

Their DL is legit. They literally were way too close for comfort and a Jalen Carter sack away from winning. That play had TD all over it. No lies told in that post.

Every one score game is 'one play away'.   Eagles were also 'one play away' from getting a 2 score lead.    No need to rehash it.

One play from taking the lead maybe, but I wouldn't say winning the game. Who knows what happens if the Rams score and the Eagles still have over a minute with the ball and those field conditions.

And.... they had the answer to the Rams D.

And that's fine, you can't expect to blast through the entirety of the playoffs without a scratch or bead of sweat on the brow. The Rams have a pretty good squad, very good young d-line as well. No problems with them playing well that game. Howie needs to continue to add, build, extend to keep teams like them in the rearview mirror, that's all.

Big difference between dropping a catch in a game they were losing and would still be losing if Jeffery caught it and scoring the go ahead TD with less than a minute left in the game.

But it doesn't ultimately matter to me. 2017 Falcons were a play away from going to the NFCCG too. But they didn't. Just like the Rams didn't. And the Eagles have two SB trophies because they didn't.

I'm just grateful that the Super Bowl and NFC CG weren't close so we didn't have to hear this over and over all offseason about those two games too.

Or hire him as a goodwill ambassador like they did Hugh Douglas.

Or should I say badassador

We'll never know what would actually happen but this is the same game Hurts got his knee twisted and the offense came to a screeching halt outside of one Barkley run.

4 plays, 5 yards

8 plays 19 yards

1 play 78 yards

3 plays -3 yards

Those were the drives after the safety and injury. Maybe Barkley has a 3rd long TD run in the tank but I wouldn't feel comfortable had the Rams scored.

Sure... But we could easily have said, "The Eagles were one play away" when they got the ball back.

Pic was probably taken in a mirror

Change of topic for us Phillies fans. I their window with this roster closed last year, especially with the Dodgers doing what they are doing. It can be so hard to gauge minor league talent and much like the Flyers, the Phillies untouchables over the years have rarely panned out. Painter should be here sooner than later but the cupboard in the field and at the plate in the minors looks pretty bare. Hopefully this team catches fire at the right time and doesn't go cold.

My only point is they were close to scoring and that's what people are referring to with the "one play away" rhetoric.

I don't even know why this is getting so much push back. Immediately after the game and all week after everyone was praising Carter for saving the game. When someone asked what was the most important play of the 2024 season, that play is the one EVERYONE mentioned.

I have a different one.

or this one...

which illustrated that we had 'great Hurts' on the field at QB in the Super Bowl.

Or... the play that showed that this was going to be a special season.

It's not a sure thing the safety makes the tackle.

Sure.  If we want to play the what if game... its not a sure thing the TE catches the ball, or that Stafford's back foot doesn't slip and he doesn't put the ball on the money.   The only thing that matters is the outcome of the play.  It was not a TD, and the Eagles won.   Yay!

7680d5513e9642618b90ce8b7a2df000

and...

I wonder why McVay was crying if they won the game.   Oh, maybe they didn't.  Because they didn't make 'the one play'.  Too bad, so sad.

Back to the party...

Look at how sad Lurie is about the loss to the Rams.
