Yeah I think people take for granted that Kelce started 1 million games in a row and expect it to happen again. We should have a backup who we are comfortable starting 4 games.  Maybe that can be Keegan but it needs to be somebody

Keegan was a 5th round pick. Apparently that's not good enough to draft a backup, we're going to have to use a 2nd maybe 3rd rounder.

Trevor Keegan took some snaps at center at last year's Senior Bowl.  I think they need to cross train him this year

It seemed like this past season the entire coaching staff made it a point not to overload the rookies and have them learn a single position. The Eagles have a pretty nice pipeline going right now and think they will lean more on those 2nd and 3rd year players and start cross training them.

Because he's not a late round pick, doesn't have the size Stout wants at guard and we have a starting center already. He's certainly a nice prospect just don't think we need to spend a 3rd rounder on a pure center unless Cam is damaged. If he is there on day 3 then great, I'd like that.

So there's nothing to complain about at this time, then.   This is just due diligence.  If they select him in round 3, then you have something to complain about.  Or... it might point to a long term concern about Jurgens.  So, even if they do draft him in Round 3, there's no reason to complain about the selection yet, because we don't know the severity of Jurgens' back injury.

I'm always in favor of doing all the homework they can on each prospect, because you never know how the draft will fall.  It's better to be prepared in case of strange happenings.

As of right now, the primary backup center likely remains Dickerson, whom himself has injury issues.  After that the picture gets very murky with Toth, Gates, etc.  No thank you.  Keegan might be an answer, but this is the time to kick every tire you can.

Now he's got this nugget. The tush push is impossible to stop because the Eagles are using the earth. They all have their feet on the ground and it’s too much of that forcey physics stuff!

So there is no planet on the defensive side of the ball now? They can't also use the earth?

Looks like a puzzle for EagleVA to solve…

Here's a list of free agent centers, we can sign a cheaper back up option or use one of our four day 3 picks on one. If Howie wants one of the top centers in the draft, he may need to move up in round 3. If he can make some trades to acquire additional picks and Wilson is one of them, I'd like that scenario much better.

All that is tangential to the fact that "Day 3 guy or UDFA” is buying injury insurance for Cam at a very very very low price. Essentially no insurance at all.  Do you really want to rely on an unheralded rookie to be your starting Center in a Super Bowl campaign?

On a team in danger of losing 4 defensive starters and a high end RG, just how high should they be buying injury insurance at backup center?

If day 3 is very low, that means you want a 1st, 2nd, or 3rd round pick allocated to a backup center.  That may end up being richer than what goes towards our starting RG, edge, or DT.

Dickerson showed he can fill in at center and play well even when he’s hurt.

Sure, we need a backup C but it's not some huge need. We just need better than Nick Gates. Driscoll getting hurt at the start of the playoffs didn't help.

They are at the combine to talk to guys.  I'm sure they talked to a lot of OL. Sometimes guys drop below where expected and you want a point of view on them. In any case whoever they take in round 3 should be BPA.  I don't think you want to start forcing positions of need at pick 96

It just caught me off guard because I look at Wilson as a Center, not a Guard, even though he has position flexibility. He's projected as a potential 3rd round pick and if the Eagles used a 3rd on a Center, that would really raise my eyebrows.

Like you and many have said, they are doing their due diligence in meeting with guys...but something to keep an eye on as visits start.

I do hope they learned their lessen with McMahon.  It's hard to carry a backup C that can't do anything else on the roster.  I think it's fine if the backup is center first and can fill in at guard in a pinch but backup OL do need position versatility.

Exactly. And if you like a player, then keep

feeding the pipeline. The OL is the engine of the team

I always wondered why you just would not have the back up center just train to be the long snapper

McMahon probably makes the most sense on that list, but he (and several others) is an ERFA not a UFA

Comes down to speed and athleticism. Long snapper needs to be one of the first down the field and agile enough to break down, pursue and tackle. OL are athletic freaks these days, but that is not their skillset at all.

For one game … and not even a full game.

Yea, as much as I love Dickerson, I don't want him at Center. He's a massive human being and with his knees, the amount of torque he's gotta use to get from Center to the perimeter is more than when he's at LG. I think his body would wear down much faster at Center.

Think about it this way. If Becton is gone, Jurgens can be the backup RG if there is a legit backup C. Not ideal but at least has some coherent logic for depth

I don't like Jurgens at RG at all either. He's too small. He held it down in his 2nd year, but it's clear that RG isn't a good position for him. Trevor Keegan is their swing IOL of the future IMO. I'm going to stand by my statement that if he gets a crack at the starting job, he's the kind of player who you just insert and forget he's there. Just a steady player sort of like Todd Herremans.

A think another thing none of you complaining about them looking at a center are factoring in is this is Cams last year under contract! As of now he would be a free agent next offseason. I think that’s something Howie and his team are taking into consideration

They had him take snaps at center at the Senior Bowl but not sure how that went
