Sucks because he's still playing well, but I get it. At that age you can fall off at any time. It's just gonna be weird from his perspective to sign with some random team for one year and just retire. I want to see what his market is. And wonder if he'd come back later in the year if there's no market for him.

Until then, Rodgers is definitely coming back.

Him and Ringo will fight it out. I wouldn't sleep on Ringo getting the job

The issue with Milton Williams, and the reason to let someone else overpay him, is that it seems highly possible/likely that his success is due to playing next to Jalen Carter. And the best evidence o

Damn.  That's cold.  Think he was a captain at the SB.

Slay went out on his shield this year. Played his ass off and reached the ultimate goal. Godspeed.

Nothing but respect for him. Turned out to be a great player for us.

Between the young guys coming through, injuries and $16m cash cost - this was inevitable. I could see Howie bringing him back on a much cheaper 1 year deal, say $6-$8m if other options don’t work out but I think they first try and go younger at the spot.

I still remember the 2022 SB when he thought KC was in Kansas

that’s why we call him Big Play Slay, and not Knows Areas Darius

Slay was far from being my favorite Eagles player, but his style actually matched perfectly to how Fangio runs his defense.  You'll almost never see a highlight of Slay getting beat over the top; he allowed a bit too much short stuff for my liking, but he was a very solid CB for most of his Eagles career.

I'd actually predicted last year he would miss a chunk of time in 2024 with injury -- he remained much healthier than I thought.  This is the perfect time to part company with him.

Reminds me a lot of Asante. Dude was the best in the league at deep zone coverage

I think he is going back to the lions… though he was close to signing with the ravens last year.. but I had heard only teams he would play for is us or the lions

Slay went out a champion playing well.

Reminds me of an old Steven Wright joke.

Kind of hoped he'd play his last year here

Now sign Rodgers.

I am not confident in Ringo as a starter at this point.  But he would be a solid backup.

Wouldn’t mind Q and Rodgers outisde and Coop in the slot.

Bring him back

Have to think Baun is coming back. I can't see the Eagles being happy losing starters at every level on defense.

Could happen on a 1 year deal but I don’t think it’s their first choice. The release is effectively Howie saying I don’t want Slay back this year for $16m.

No it's not, it's so he can go get the bag somewhere.  Both parties already knew that he was going to free agency after this season, well in advance of this.  He could've taken a team friendly deal if he wanted to, but this way he can likely grab a decent 1 year payday somewhere next year for what he's already said is going to be his final season before retiring.

Jahan Dotson salivating with the chance to get #2.

Thanks for the memories, Slay. I always thought he got too much criticism on these boards. Sounds like he was a really great mentor to the younger guys.

Why are they called apartments if they’re all stuck together?

Figured it was a possibility.

We were never paying Slay $16mm for 2025. I had some hope that we might do a Sweat type deal with him where he cut that to market (like $8 million) and stayed, but guessing he wants to go see what his market is out there. We announced we were cutting him in 2023 only to resign him, so maybe he gets market intel and then comes back on a reduced deal. If not, then thanks for the memories -- he was a great trade acquisition that worked out.

Hopefully Rodgers is back and battles Ringo for CB2.

Why? The guy played well and only wants to play one more year.
