Yup, on a bad defense - Mazi Smith hasn't done him any favors.

He really hasn't. I wasn't super high on Mazi, but didn't think he would bust like this.

This isn't a slight at Hurts, be he wouldn't sniff the SB with no run game, a bad offensive line and his best weapon being an old TE on the verge of retirement.

Few QBs can drag an offense that poor to a Superbowl even with a good defense.

Are you saying that Mahomes was mostly a product of 12+ superior players and without all those players he is not elite now?

Are we trying to make him elite in 2024 because POOR BABY?

He did not have a bad offensive line. That line has 3 all-world players. It was weird they played Thuney out of position but it was working for them.  This was not the 2021 Bengals or the 2008 Steelers or the 84-87 Eagles. They just franchise tagged their guard. They paid their center top dollar on merit. The other guard pretty much lives in the Super Bowl with 6 SB appearances in 9 years. The Patriots did not have bad offensive lines just because the Giants got to them in a couple SBs. Mahomes was sacked 6 times combined in his last 5 games before the SB.

That line held up fine to almost every other team they played over 19 games before Philly. They had 2 1st team all pros and 3rd in the pro bowl. Mahomes sack rate in 2024 was 5.83. The league average was 6.87. You don't get to excuse someone because POOR BABY had finally play a year without a top 5 offensive line. NOTE: His line was good in 2020. Tampa killed him because they got 3 injuries at the end of the season or in the playoffs.

How do you have no run game when your QB runs for 700+ and 10+ TDs and scares the hell out of the defense? Hurts would make most team's run game better regardless of line. The only running QB exception I can think of was Randall in the 80s but those backs were grade Z trash.  When we got Sherman and Walker, they thrived with Randall. Was Randall carried by Antone Davis and steroids shrinky dinks from Indy?

I bring this up every time people play the POOR BABY! card. It makes Randall the GoaT. POOR BABY! is not reality so Randall is not the GoaT.

Who even is that?

The best JAG on the turds.

From Dane burglar’s mock from today

32. Philadelphia Eagles: Walter Nolen, DT, Ole Miss

With Milton Williams on his way out of Philadelphia, Nolen would be a nice fit on that defensive line. The Eagles have made a habit of scooping up trench players who fall a little further than they should in the draft.

A random name I'd like to see come back because I think he'd barely get any money and would just provide a little more depth is Olamide Zaccheaus. Probably can be had for around a million a year and would spare the Eagles drafting another WR. Though I do think they will look for some type of return man in the draft. I get the feeling they don't like Covey taking up a roster spot as a return man only since he blows as a WR and they also probably don't want DeJean returning punts again next season. So I think at some point they will look to draft someone who can actually play a position but also return punts. I think that's why they drafted Ainias Smith over a clearly far superior Malik Washington... because they viewed Smith as a punt returner who had WR potential. Turns out he blows at both.

Great! Too bad he won't be there.

A Nolan-like slip for Nolen... sign me up.

These mock drafts are beyond stupid....I can't even fathom that people try and make a career out of doing them.  There is no way to account for trades, no way to account for stupidity (by certain teams) and no way to know what teams value what players.  It's nothing more than an exercise of trying to guess and that's it.

If you follow teams closely you can usually figure out the types of players they’d be interested in. I remember back in 2005 I got all of our picks through the 5th round right except Brown in the draft competition.

He will be if I want him to be, I just haven't decided if he's the guy I want yet.

Its really weird getting a handle on rookies that don't play or even guys here for a while like Ringo. The players demanded almost no practice time in the CBA and it probably kills 50 careers a year because you just don't get to see enough of these young guys.

I know this was more on injuries but there was almost nothing to see on Nakobe until he became a star this year.

I'm not sure if anyone including Trotter knows if Trotter can play LB at this level right now.

It makes it hard on free agents as well especially the middle tier guys.  Not much practice time in a new system to prove yourself and if you struggle early you might never get a shot again

Could see the Eagles having interest in Dre'Mont Jones.

He deserves it although I think this isn't the best roster management. They should focus on preserving him more now.

Guessing this will free up some money for 2025 somehow.

Jaylin Lane, WR, Virginia Tech

Should be there RD5-RD6

Pretty good return specialist in college

I don't understand extending Barkley at all. Want to see the contract details, but feels dumb.

Here is an example. Trey Lance. Is Justin Fields better than Lance? We have no idea. Fields was allowed to play for 44 starts, Lance got 5.

I heard someone suggest that Lance should go to the UFL and light it up to get a real shot in the NFL.

Feels like they wanted to get ahead of it instead of going the Reddick route

Barkley clearly outperformed his contract and won OPOY. It's a good signal to the locker room.

At the same time, it's very risky. We'll see what the true guarantees are. My guess is that only the first year of that extension is truly guaranteed.

Yeah, I’m surprised they’d do this. Not sure I love it.

Need more details, but as long as it doesn't affect the cap negatively in 2025 or 2026 I'm good with it. I trust Howie. Risky though, but again, depends on guarantees.

There goes the myth that Howie doesn't pay running backs.

If this is extending Saquon for '27 and '28, I will trust Howie with this. If its giving him new money in '25 and '26, hell no.

I want to win every year but I also want to be able to watch my heroes that won on Sundays. This gives me 2 more years of Saquon.

A bad part of post 2017 was the Wentzification of the team so I could not enjoy Foles on Sunday besides the 5 bookends around frah-gee-lay (physical, mental, and emotional) QB1.
