Other things to accomplish before FA starts:

1. Extend Cam -- obviously this doesn't have to be done before FA, but I'm thinking Howie will want to know what his cap commitments are for Cam before FA begins. An extension should lower his $5.8mm cap number a little -- maybe by around $1mm.

2. Figure out Goedert -- I just don't see any way we pay him $15.5mm in cash for 2025, but unlike Slay, I think an "extension" that lowers his cash payout this year, adds some BS years to the backend, is possible. According to Spotrac, his ~$14mm 2025 option bonus doesn't have to be exercised until the start of the 2025 regular season, so again, we could take our time. But I'd think we need clarity on whether he will be back. We can't make him a post June 1 cut since both slots were used on Slay and JB, but we could cut or trade him if he won't play ball.

3. Decide on Becton, Rodgers and Burks -- do you let them test the market or not? I think all 3 will test the market, but at least one and maybe 2 will be back. I'm starting to think they let Becton walk and maybe bring back big Fred as the swing tackle.

I think Howie will look to draft Goedert’s replacement. Whether or not that happens will affect how Howie proceeds at TE and the Goedert contract.

The issue with Milton Williams, and the reason to let someone else overpay him, is that it seems highly possible/likely that his success is due to playing next to Jalen Carter. And the best evidence o

Curious how much more he would’ve gotten in FA. I’d think the price had to be close to what he felt he’d get in FA and rather come back here. But who really knows cause all it takes is one team to just offer something ridiculous and structured in a way we didn’t like

Given the timing I'd guess maybe a little more but who knows if it would be just fluff. For what he signed for and less than a week before FA starts, I'd confidently say Eagles were in the same neighborhood with what his highest contract would be.

Howie gave Baun basically the same exact deal he gave Huff

I think Spotrac is taking that from that one dude's tweet and will update when we get final details.

I wondered if Baun would come in a little cheaper because he is a bit older and is a one-year wonder, but he was just too damn good to lose, and our LB room isn’t in good shape without him.

He’s also the veteran leader on our defense with Slay and BG gone

While I’m fighting the Blog today, I’ll just say there’s almost no possible way Baun can replicate his 2024 season.

He doesn’t have to either to justify the contract.

I’m hopeful most of the forced fumbles can be replicated. That’s skill/coaching, and as a MLB he’ll have the same high volume of opportunities.

The INTs are more flukes of opportunity and I expect QBs to avoid throwing into his passing lanes.

Off topic but the time to sign Dean is now. Gives him some security going forward and you get him for less than it would’ve cost coming off the injury.

I think it would be prudent to let him prove he’s healthy first. He’s been hurt enough that his price should remain palatable if he plays well upon his return.

No, that's literally Bryce Huff's deal. Just saying how funny the numbers match up to Baun.

Same years, basically same amount, exact same guaranteed.

Hopefully this means no stupid trade for Garrett!  I’d love to add him, but the cost if he truly wants a massive payday is a nah for me.

LOL, they are so close and I looked so fast, didn't realize.

That would be impressive considering he's under contract until 2029

Thats what I thought, I figured it was a fake story as it seemed a little fishy, thanks for clarification

I'd prefer to look elsewhere for TE

Curious what Browning's market will be. Disappointed as a Cardinal, has a connection to Fangio. I expect it would be too rich for a LB3 guy to fill in until Dean comes back and they'd just keep Burks for cheap, but who knows. He was mainly on my list of guys to watch in case Baun left.

Did Dre'Mont Jones play mostly LB last year?  He was the same exact same size/weight as Milton Williams when he was in Denver but Sportrac had him listed at LB and that 55 is messing with me.  He also seems skinnier in picture below

Inside outside flexibility would not be a bad thing.

I think you are risking if he comes back and plays as well as he did prior that he doesn’t just go test free agency being that close to it (last year of his contract in 2025). He’s been hurt so some teams would be skittish. But higher chance he wants to cash in after 2025 if he plays on the last year on his deal as there’s a chance he doesn’t get another big contract after this one due to the injuries. Add on someone might just pay him more than you want if he goes to FA. Feels very Jordan hicks-esque where he cardinals gave him a contract the eagles didn’t really want to match

I'm in the minority in not loving Dean's play last year, so I think there's a real chance we can find an upgrade in 2025.

I think with this Baun deal, we need to accept that the other off LB spot is going to be someone on a rookie or low dollar contract the next couple years. Vic has said he liked what he saw from Trott Jr. I think it's Trott or Burks if he comes back next to Baun, and Dean is basically out for the year. After 2025 if Dean takes a cheap prove it deal, he's back. But his chance to get paid got screwed by the injury and the fact he'll likely miss most of 2025.

Yep. A win for Howie at this point is Baun, Burks, F. Johnson and Rodgers. And unearthing a couple gems. Goedert is 50/50. Needs to be the right deal or we move on. Hope Jurgens can extend reasonably, but may bet on himself if offer is under say, $15M. Creed came in at 4/72 and that was last year. Wouldn't rule it out.

Imo depends on when he comes back this upcoming year. I tend to think if they don’t get it done prior to the end of 2025 that they’ve made the decision to likely move on to trot jr or like you said someone on a rookie deal/low dollar contract.

my personal feeling this is a if we can get him at a team friendly price now then make the deal. if not probably like Jordan hicks they let him walk away.

I can't help but think that Dean may be one of the Jalen Carter whisperers that keeps Jalen from becoming his worst self.

So is it as easy as

Re-Sign Baun

Sign Dre'Mont Jones to take over for Milton Williams

Trade pick 32 and 64 for 39 and 41 with Bears

Draft either Donovan Jackson, Jonah Saviinaea, or Aireontae Ersery to take over or compete for Becton's spot

Top Edge defender available to take over for Sweat

In my Mock simulation last night I made that 39 and 41 trade with the Bears.  The simulation wanted more for the Bears so I swapped 5th Round picks as part of the deal.

I thought he was good but we saw Burke play well next to Baun too. Ultimately Dean is too injury prone to give a long term deal to. Also I just don’t see Howie paying 2 LBs. second one will be rookie or very low deal. You can’t pay every starter
