No, we lost some but not much

Ok, that's surprising

I would have been surprised if we saved money. The way his original contract was structured there just wasn't anywhere savings would come from.

Pickett to the Raiders for their 4th please.

We got a 2nd for AJ Feeley. And he was so bad South Park even took a jab at him.

It is not that Allen costs a comp pick it is that Milton earns a comp pick

The issue with Milton Williams, and the reason to let someone else overpay him, is that it seems highly possible/likely that his success is due to playing next to Jalen Carter. And the best evidence of that is that Moro Ojomo, a 7th round pick, put up basically the same pass rush win rate as Williams thanks to Carter. Williams had a pass rush win rate of 18.5%. Ojomo was 16.6% and got better as the season went on, peaking at 26.3% in the Super Bowl.

It's why you let someone else overpay Alvin Harper, because he's seeing single coverage due to Michael Irvin.

Add on, this draft class is super deep at DT, and you look for another cost controlled guy to play next to Carter. Carter is the unicorn you need to pay.

In ideal world, they could bring him back.  The Eagles, however, aren't going to have a hugh hole with his absence.  Ojomo and Davis can fill the playing time.  They can add depth.

So the guy from Spotrac said Barkley’s deal was practically a two-year deal. Thinking, damn, Howie did it again, I looked at the contract. It would be a $31M dead cap to move on from him after the 2026 season. After 2027 it will be $18M.

Williams is a very good DT that benefitted mightily from lining up next to Carter.  According to early reviews, there are a couple dozen DTs that have starter grades in this year's draft.

This is what Howie was talking about when asking the fan base to be patient.  We'll replace Williams in seven weeks.

No eagles news since Baun got re-signed. Wonder if we get something today. Still have Jurgens & Blankenship looming extensions & decisions to make on Goedert, Slay, and Jordan Davis.

No decision needs to be made on Slay.  That decision was already made.  I mentioned this a while a go, when they did the cut then re-sign manuever with Fletcher Cox, they did that in 2 days, and it was done just AFTER the league year started.

Here's the timeline:

  • March 16, 2022 - New League year starts.
  • March 17, 2022 - Eagles designate Fletcher Cox as June 1 cut.
  • March 19, 2022 - Eagles re-sign Fletcher Cox to 1 year deal.

Here's the timeline with Slay:

  • March 3, 2025 - Eagles designate Darius Slay as June 1 cut.
  • March 12, 2025 - New League year starts.

The Eagles have already had their conversations with Slay.  They didn't like the number he wanted in order to return, so they did the nice thing and gave him a head start on free agency to get his best price.  With Cox, they knew his number... they cut him to save the money with the June 1 designation, and then brought him back after just 2 days... allowing the dust to settle on the release, before bringing him back at the predetermined value before he was cut.  Slay is on the market and has been for 4 days, and he was released BEFORE the league year started.  This is very different.  He's not coming back, no matter what he says.  His statement about coming back is to help keep his price at its maximum value.  But, he's sounds to be very happy to go to the highest bidder.

That is true.   Only players whose contract has expired is part of the compensation pick calculation.

I like our top three DTs right now, but I would love the top three if Davis made a leap.

I would even say there’s an opportunity for an upgrade. There are some really talented DT prospects in the draft this year. I wouldn’t be surprised if a couple years from now the guy we take is outperforming Williams.

Philly Special would like a word with you

Eagles history begins and ends with Jalen Hurts to that guy.

I'd even argue that the 4th down on the drive where they were trailing in that SB that led to the Ertz go-ahead TD might have actually been bigger, even though less iconic.  Punting there is what so many teams over the years would have done to trust their defense to get the ball back for them... but Doug knew that was a plan to fail.  So, he rolled the dice and the rest, as they say, is history.

I believe the Eagles really like Barkley and don't think they have plans to part with him if he is playing well. Henry is 3 years older and still one of the best. I can see Barkley staying that way for several more years. So all this "essentially a two year deal" stuff is meaningless. What I'm trying to say is that if he keeps producing, the Eagles will keep paying.

I seriously doubt we pay Milt long term for say 21 mil per year, plus Carter for 35 mil long term...

I think it's mostly how good they are but I do think an element of Barkley & Baun is how they are the nextgen of leaders for the team.  Kelce, Graham, Cox etc are gone.  Hurts is a leader but he's a different guy.  Barkley & Baun are the traditional leaders the team needs

The way teams seem to have money to burn he may cost $37-40 in a few years.

It seems people took the bait.

even with the DLine losses, still the best roster in the league by a good margin

I think Landry, Mack, Hargrave, and Dre’mont Jones are the 4 names to look out for with the Eagles.

Considering his history... I don't think that was bait
