The Rodgers news is kind of discouraging. I think there is a possibility that Ringo is ready to step up and be a starter but they AT LEAST need someone who can compete with him and be a fall back option and depth if Ringo is the starter.

I'm fine with Ricks being that competition for Ringo. He has been forgotten but he played really well as a rookie when he had his chances.  Practically shut down Tyreek Hill on SNF back in 2023.  Also wouldn't hate bringing Rasul Douglas back but he is in that danger zone of a corner being on the wrong side of 30 and I think he will ultimately get an offer that pays him more than I'd be comfortable the Eagles paying him.

The issue with Milton Williams, and the reason to let someone else overpay him, is that it seems highly possible/likely that his success is due to playing next to Jalen Carter. And the best evidence o

That's more than Hargrave or Dre'Mont Jones will get if the Eagles are interested in either. Getting either for under 8m per seems pretty affordable for the Eagles.

Just came through the philly airport.  There were no free agents there.

More and more, it looks like Howie will be digging for gems this offseason and looking for prove it 1 year deals (like Becton and Baun) and that's fine. Because he's pretty good at it. That's where the patience comes in and having cash on hand. The price tags this week are going to be horrific. May need to explore the trade market as well for draft picks entering their 4th and/or 5th years (like Dotson and Pickett last year).

It’s all fine. Last thing you want to do is mess up future deals because you overpaid for ok guys now.

Said this before if they had to start Ojomo, Hunt, Trotter, Ringo and Steen theyd still be stronger on paper than most if not all teams and we know they’ll make moves anyway

You were a day late for tickets and now you're a day early for free agency.  :smoke:

And the up to could be doing some work as usual. Backup DT seems very doable in this market

That works to Howie’s advantage.  The money Carter gets in the next two years won’t change for Cap purposes.  The Cap will go up in the extension years, but Carter will receive the cash now.  That is a win-win for both the Eagles and Carter and a loss for the rest of the NFL

We shall see.  We have a lot of money pushed out to the seasons when Carter's extension would  kick in, not to mention Smith can extend after this season as well.  Both Mitchell and Dejean after the 2026 season.

Yeah I'm not with you there. I think at the very least they need a decent proven vet to come in and compete with Ringo and also provide depth with one of them being the backup. I suppose the other option is to slide Dejean outside and find a slot corner which is cheaper and easier to find than outside corner. I think you potentially weaken two positions doing that though so that wouldn't be my preference.

Took that one personally, RTK Jr?

Yes, that one really cut deep. I’m still so bitter that we won the SB and Hurts was incredible.  I’m just happy we have insecure leprechauns like you to tell the blog how right you always think you are.

A lot of people forget about Rick’s and I think we haven’t seen much of him but the coaching staff believes in him and kept him on the roster all year for a reason.

EVeryone is re-signing with their teams. Feeling good that the Eagles can keep more of their guys than expected. Probably not Williams or Sweat, but maybe Becton.

You're telling on yourself here. My post didn't even address you or anyone specifically, and yet you still took offense.

Bolton is a nice player but Baun is better. Howie read the market right

Bolton's a good player but I'll take Baun at 17 over him at 15 all FN day.

It’s starting to feel like nearly a lock that Howie trades up to 25 or 27 to get his preferred DL and stick it to WAS, DET, and possibly LAR all at the same time.

Yeah, I’m convinced that’s happening.

I'd say the odds of moving up or down are vastly higher than sitting put at #32.

Potential Eagles target off the list

Always thought he was only a target if they lost Baun. They aren’t going to pay the guy that competes with Trott Jr. that kind of money.

I still think Dejean is best utilized as a safety, but with our current need at CB/NCB (and with CJGJ here) it's not anything we'll get to see play out for at least another year or two.

Doubt Eagles will be interested, but another pass rusher on the market.

Yeah probably not but as you said adding yet another pass rusher to the market certainly won't hurt.

Draft edge rusher in edge rusher draft imo

They gotta open up cap space to sign Slay.

If he can get them another high comp pick... that'd be nice.   I'd rather he come back, but if he's getting crazy money, then hopefully it lands that extra comp pick.  We can feel pretty confident that they can get comp picks for Sweat and Williams.  Becton remains to be seen.  But, Rodgers getting a higher than expected contract offer adding yet another comp pick would be nice.

Womp womp. Maybe Slay comes back after all.

Thanks, but no thanks.   This team needs youth from that spot.

Man, I would have liked him but for a guy who is supposed to be a pass rushing LB/DB with a total of 11.5 sacks in 4 seasons, only 2 last year, getting $15 million a year is kinda nuts.  Baun at $17 million for a DPOY candidate is looking like a bargain.

That's not what it says.  It says $15M OVER 2 years... meaning $7.5M avg.
