I'll like to revisit this take after the draft.  Some personnel will change, but the coordinator and our best young players remain.

I recall the quote attributed to Vic during a broadcast where he said something to the effect that he'd like to blitz more, but the back seven hadn't been in his system long enough to deal with it.  I anticipate that his scheme will be more diverse this season.  That we will see second-year jumps from Mitchell, DeJean, and Hunt.  That Ojomo will, like Williams, benefit from playing next to Carter.

We can take a small step back and still be the best in the league.

We may not take a step back if refs actually call the hold on Carter

The issue with Milton Williams, and the reason to let someone else overpay him, is that it seems highly possible/likely that his success is due to playing next to Jalen Carter. And the best evidence o

I honestly know nothing about Jaylon Moore. Is he any good at all?

He has barely played, I think PFF had him like 27th best tackle for his very limited play and the SF offense fell apart when he was there instead of Williams. His 2024 evaluation on OTC was 1.9m.

He hit 15m because there was a bidding war on him. (NFLN said)

So much for "Howie doesn't let young talent out of the building". Welp, that can be safely flushed

Major projection on KC's part

Lurie and Howie TOLD US WEEKS AGO. Did no one listen to that when they said fans have to be patient and have faith. Like come on

Super curious what Vic does at CB with Slay gone

I've seen suggestions of moving Cooper outside

If being released on 10 April 1995 is new, then OK then lol.

The Opera of 2025 is an different beast than the one in 1995. Opera in 2025 is just another Chromium based browser with some useful add-ons and de-Googlefied to some extent AFAIK. The only significant non-Chromium based browser remaining is Firefox and its offshoots.

Thanks. I was stunned when I saw the contract. I honestly had no idea who he was.

Trent Williams' backup -- and the 49ers fell apart when he played. Way to go KC.

I love watching NFLN when they say "This free agent was #16 on the list of the mailroom guy who failed upwards list of the top 100 free agents"

He was writing Vince Ferragamo is better than Nick Foles gotcha articles in 2017, now he is a free agency expert.

He did put in his time on that NFLN  2 funny and charismatic guys and one weenie podcast.

Adios Milton - glad we drafted you, glad you contributed on the SB run, glad we have JC and are getting a good comp pick for you... can't have it all.

Unique talent.  They made their decision last offseason when they could have extended him.  At that point in his career, he was a quality rotational DT.

He still is.  I doubt Williams will have the same level of success without 98 lining up next to him.

Maybe playing outside in base but moving to NCB in 3-WR sets. But to not use him at NCB is lunacy.

110%. Williams will take a step back, and we're going to see Ojomo feast. Whoever is next to 98 is always going to play above their head here.

I mean I don’t mind Cooper outside in base. Once it’s a nickel+ sliding him inside and running with Rodgers or Ringo outside

The most important contract for us to pay attention to today is Drew Dalman's 3-year $42 million deal with the Bears. We all love Jurgens, but he isn't cemented as a top Center year. I'd think this is the kind of deal he should be looking to get.

Reading about these deals and the salary cap has me thinking... I wonder if teams should get cap relief - say 10% of contract - when they re-sign / extend players they draft. Encourage continuity and reward Howie Roseman. Sorry, I mean reward teams that draft well

I like that idea. It's a little incentive to resign your own FAs without asking for hometown discount.

Xwitter appears to be working again.

Because 1 rotational DT wanted more money and signed with one of the worst teams?

You realize he's re-signed a lot of young core talent right? The offense is signed through 2028, and the young talented defense are on rookie deals. He's going to extend Carter and other stars when the time comes. Look what he's got to plan for. Yeah, he's gonna let Williams walk and get overpaid.

Though that would solve problems if they moved him and he flourished even more. Having CB settled for the foreseeable future would be a dream come true lol

We certainly can and that also wouldn't surprise me.

We'll get depth in there and some of these jumps will happen. Others might falter some and have a sophomore slump. The chances of rookies coming in the way Q and DeJean did and playing that lights out again is slim. We play 11/12 playoff caliber teams.

By no means am I panicked, I just think we won't be as dominant.

Paying elite/pro bowl money to guys that are simply above average is how you wreck a team (see Prescott, Dak). Howie saw the metrics and pressure rate Ojomo produced next to Carter were basically the same as Milton. This is similar to letting Miles Sanders and Swift walk knowing their numbers were thanks to the line. But you pay Barkley because he is a force multiplier.
