Seattle breakdown.

Lockett was toast and overpaid. He probably should have been dropped last year.

Seattle was not visionary on DJ Metcalf. They took a big chance on a medical red flag (neck) who would otherwise have gone top 20.

They got full value from picking him. They got full value on a 2nd contract. They made the decision not to pay him 30+ a year as he aged into his 30s.

They drafted his replacement in JSN who is ready to blast off in year 3.

They got Geno for nothing, got the max out of a very limited dude, and got value for him. Geno is 35

They replaced him for no draft capital (other than comp formula) for a QB who just had an elite season. Darnold is 28.

Darnold is a top 12 QB right now. He grew and learned and survived some really bad situations. Getting him for under 40 in a Dak gets 60 league? That's an absolute win. They still have to win on the field, but I like everything they have done so far.

Blaming the Jets sucking on Darnold would require some serious delusion.

The issue with Milton Williams, and the reason to let someone else overpay him, is that it seems highly possible/likely that his success is due to playing next to Jalen Carter. And the best evidence o

I don't recall exactly but it was a thing in here when we talked about Milton possibly leaving, this was months ago

So Williams stock shot up after the SB and he was on mic immediately saying he's going to get PAID. Perhaps months ago no one expected him to command these numbers and have several teams in a bidding war for him.

Even so, you're arguing a straw man at this point going on and on about it. There's no way Howie was paying that and everyone knew the minute the SB was over he would be gone.

Howie keeps young talent he wants to keep that aren't insanely overvaluing themselves. He just gave Barkely an extension he didn't even ask for because of the season he had. He paid Baun. He extended the entire offense through 2028 other than Becton, who has Steen ready to replace. He's planning on extending other young talent on defense that will be in the next few years.

Dre'Mont Jones still makes sense. Doesn't hurt comp picks either.

Yeah, I guess my point is I would have thought they’d be good with wanting him back at that number. Not like he’s some big loss or anything. I’m curious what the plan is now, if it’s moving DeJean to outside or giving Ringo his chance to start on the outside, which I’m ok with.

I also was wondering if maybe there’s a looming FA move they’re about to make now

Yep, I agree with all of this. I was more than fine with bringing back Rodgers and letting him and Ringo compete. I'm kind of annoyed/confused they let him walk for that price but Howie has earned the benefit of the doubt and then some so I will just wait and see what the plan is because at that price Rodgers obviously just wasn't part of the plan.

Most reasonable deals so far are Rodgers and Darnold. I’d have re-signed Rodgers for that number, but maybe I’m being too risk averse.

I really don't get why people continue to believe Justin Fields is an NFL QB, or an NFL caliber passer. Just because he was a 1st round pick?

Guys like Orlovsky will hype up Fields while crapping on Hurts, all because they want to hang on to their draft grades.

26 million for Milton Williams is insane. Not sure I would be ok with the Eagles giving him that contract even IF they had a ton of cap space.

Letting Rodgers walk for the contract he got with the Vikings is annoying. Losing Slay and Rodgers is a massive hit to the secondary even IF Ringo ends up being really good because of the lack of depth. I'm starting to wonder if they plan to move Dejean outside and replace him in the slot which can be done much easier and cheaper than finding an outside corner.

Seattle so far is the biggest loser of the off-season BY FAR.

If the plan was to move Dejean outside then Rodgers was a decent option at nickel surely?

That said I think Dejean brings a physicality at nickel that we haven't had in years, the kid can tackle like a linebacker, I wouldn't be rushing to shift him outside.

Seriously...a year ago, did anyone anticipate Williams being the headliner in free agency?

I bought his game worn eagles jersey last offseason so clearly me lol

So this move doesn't count as a "young talent leaving the building"?

This is confusing, he was released last week with a June 1st designation

He wasn't officially released. You have to wait for the start of the new league year to be a post June 1st designation. Same thing applies to Bradberry.

Brah, the offseason is barely 3 hours old. Maybe wait and see what happens over the next few days, weeks, etc? Just a thought.

Vic seems to have a large say in things and has been pretty good with talent evaluations so far. If he thinks Ringo is the guy we have to trust him. I'm also curious what he wants off the bargain rack.

If you keep Milton you have to give up Jalen Carter or Nolan Smith, who both are eligible for extensions next year. It’s planning for the future. I’d rather have Carter & Smith, Milton’s replacement is Ojomo and a guy drafted on day 1 or 2 next month

Is Darius Slay about to almost be a Steeler the same way he was almost a Raven just to come back to the Eagles?

I am not overly concerned about the DL or RG.  It's their plan at CB that isn't clear and has become concerning.

I am onboard with the comp pick game.  But is there a former Fangio NCB out there that they are waiting to sign in the middle of the night?

It's 2 hours into free agency.

Last year we were very concerned about corner. They had Rodgers coming off suspension but he was still an unknown factor. We heard reports they really wanted a corner in the 1st and DeJean is a player we heard they were targeting. Things fell for them to get both Q and DeJean and you can't predict how things are going to go. But, we knew they had a plan to get a corner and they would have perhaps even taken DeJean in the 1st if he were there.

As I said, they don't cut Slay and let Rodgers walk at that price without a plan. Fangio has had a year to evaluate these guys, and they have their draft board and free agency plan in place that will no doubt include what Fangio wants to do at corner. And they must be confident in Ringo as starter if there are no other starting quality moves made yet, and drafting replacements to develop depth.

Go find whoever said that literal quote and pm them.

I am not a fan of moving DeJean. That's such a critical position in Vic's scheme and he plays it so well.

I really think you'll see Q and Coop outside in base, and then Coop will slide inside when they go nickel and Ringo/Ricks/FA will be the other outside corner. We're in nickel like 80% of the time anyway.

Slay can go to Pittsburgh. They are lucky dude made it to 34 playing at the level he has and not completely falling apart physically.  Not only that, he is a FN drama queen who is always stirring stupid ishe up. Good riddance.

I’d imagine they’ll find competition somewhere if the idea is DeJean stays in his current role (which I prefer, think he gives the defense a big advantage there) and Ringo gets his chance to start on the outside. Christian Parker has shown he is very good at developing DB, and Ringo is still young (only 22) and very athletic with great size. This is the time where these young guys get their opportunity to step up & I’m all for Ringo getting his chance, though they should still bring in competition/depth at the position that’s preferably a vet over a rookie

He has the raw talent to be special but so did Ryan Leaf and JaMarcus.

The floor for Fields is you can compete because he can run for 1200+  yards and with the right players around him the 7th seed is possible.

I'm not sure he is a top 50 passer yet in the NFL. The Jets maybe think they can improve him?

His efficiency was better in several areas last year but he still has a long way to go.

Yeah, I don't like not resigning Rodgers those the price tag was pretty high
