Frustrated to see all this talent go out the door, but it would have been insane to have paid any of our guys what they just got paid.

Is what it is.

I would agree with this mostly, but Burks at cost was fine, even if he was limited to special teams and the occasional spot start.

Signing Baun early completely changed this entire situation. If he were not yet re-signed it would be panic, if he signed elsewhere we would be PISSED.

Signing him showed priority and willingness to pay a LB to keep him and makes losing the rest of them easier to handle.

Maybe Fangio just didn't want him. Same with Rodgers.

Agree. I'm fine with these so far, but I'm not a fan of the mindset of sustainably vs depth and filling needs to keep a dominant team going. Howie isn't done, but he obviously has work to do.

How do they have money I haven’t paid attention to them I know Carr restructured but I thought they had other money issues .

I actually talked to Loomis.  He said after observing Howie, he’s going to claim the cap isn’t real and tell the NFL to F off when they let him know he’s 30m over still.

If Fangio weren't here - and hadn't just coached them from worst to first defense - I would worry more about losing guys and then having to replace them. I would be right there questioning not bringing back Rodgers and Burks for cheap.

But Fangio wants what he wants and is very particular. He must be telling Howie fine let em walk I don't want them, and has ideas about which free agents he wants to bring in and which guys in the draft he wants to target.

We also saw some depth and even rookie players get bigger roles at the end of the season. With another offseason with Fangio, those guys will continue to grow. I'm not worried about it, especially only on day 1 of free agency. They will be signing some guys and then Howie has some draft ammo.

This has probably been mentioned a million times but when Slays contract is off the books Wednesday does that have any immediate cap implications? Or any of the other moves they made today like trading Pickett?

Pickett yes slay and Bradberry we don’t see the savings till June 1st

Also getting anything for Pickett is robbery.

but i am still super salty about trading for Him in the first place

The fact that Becton isn’t signed yet gives me hope that there’s a shop around, get a number, and return possibility for him.

Dude, read my other posts. I'm not upset,  but in response to that mindset mentioned I'm not a fan.

Yep, agree. Said similar things, but sustainability isn't something I'm worried about at the same time. Jerry has the we fill voids in the draft mindset. Hopefully, he does what he did last year with the 2nd tier because they need depth.

Definitely lacking depth everywhere on defense.

Agree with ESP which feels wrong

People also not looking at it from the other side: Burks may have preferred to leave.

If he wanted to play, staying here meant a training camp battle with Trotter to find out who gets benched when Dean is back

Seems Burks wanted a chance as a starter and he wasn’t going to be given that here, even with Deans injury.

Fangio likes Trotter Jr. a lot and spoke very highly of him in many press conferences. Fangio doesn’t bs.

Trotter Jr. and a draft pick could hold it down until Dean comes back.

Just a reminder that there are 178 days until our opener.

Mostly agree, but it is not a given Dean ever returns to form after his injury. Penciling him in as a starter once healthy is suspect.

Not enough losing

6ers lost. Nets won.

I read a report that the Bengals gave Burks assurances that he would get to compete for a starting spot there. Even IF Dean isn't healthy by the start of the season there is no guarantee that Burks would have been a temporary starter over Trot JR. Much like the Rodgers deal I think it was far more about the opportunity the player was getting elsewhere than the money. Also, I would have liked to have seen Burks back as well but players like him are a dime a dozen and they can find a replacement for one year at the league minimum at some point.

It’s funny when we got him last year everyone was like who? Why? Now they are all pissed off he isn’t on the team! He played decent we have what 8 draft picks this year currently that will help fill out the roster!

I think the board has been pretty chill today considering all the players they lost without any moves like the big 3 last year. There is a balance between that and not being Jerry with the building through the draft not FA. Schedule is brutal next year and they will need depth from vets as well. They've drafted very well, but expecting rookies to step in on SB teams like last year is going to take luck.
