Fangio said Trotter and Burks were very close but Burks played well so he stayed in. You’d think with an offseason Trotter could pass him in Fangio’s mind anyway

It’s funny when we got him last year everyone was like who? Why? Now they are all pissed off he isn’t on the team! He played decent we have what 8 draft picks this year currently that will help fill out the roster!

Yep. Everyone was freaking out when he had to take over as a starter for Dean and after the dude plays decent for a few games people are acting like he's Urlacherz. He can EASILY be replaced with a one year vet minimum type of guy which is what he was last off-season.

If BG doesn't announce his retirement by Wednesday, I'm thinking there's a chance he could return for another season.

I think the board has been pretty chill today considering all the players they lost without any moves like the big 3 last year. There is a balance between that and not being Jerry with the building through the draft not FA. Schedule is brutal next year and they will need depth from vets as well. They've drafted very well, but expecting rookies to step in on SB teams like last year is going to take luck.

I don't disagree with you, but free agency isn't even 24 hours old. Howie asked the fans to be patient, and he has shown a knack over the years for finding cheap one year gems in free agency later in the process. At the very least he deserves the benefit of the doubt and mostly hill or not I saw a few posts getting all worked up over Oren Burks which is silly.

C'mon Howie, Burks was worth 2 for $5 million.

Axe Jr. must be the dude then.

Unless Campbell........

We couldn’t afford what most of these guys signed for but the two head scratchers are Rodgers @ 7.5 mil per and Burks 2.5 mil per.

Literally every year fans complain about not having certain positions addressed, not having depth or answers for something...on day 1 of free agency.

For sure he does.

You guys need to stop this narrative of fear about next year's schedule. The only 2 games to be concerned about truly are the Bills and Chiefs away. We just dominated and demoralized the Chiefs. They'll be fired up, but we'll be ready too.

Let's look at the non-division teams we play next year:

Chicago Bears - W
Detroit Lions - could go either way, it's a home game for us though
Denver Broncos - W
Las Vegas Raiders - W
Los Angeles Rams - W
Green Bay Packers - W, they haven't beat anyone this year
Minnesota Vikings - W, they haven't beat anyone this year
Kansas City Chiefs - could go either way but tough and on the road
Los Angeles Chargers - W, not scared of them
Buffalo Bills - could go either way, but tough and on the road
Tampa Bay Buccaneers or Atlanta Falcons - Bucs have had our number lately, but if they play like they are currently they will beat either of those teams

Then you have 4 wins against the Giants and Cowboys, and let's say a split with the Commies even though they can win both games.

I still predict they will have the #1 seed and a first round bye.

I haven't seen many over the top takes. I think what you said is fair and I think the wow OB wasn't expensive so why not keep him initial reactions are as well.

I think we both know fans aren't going to sit with their hands folded on the desk patiently waiting for the teacher. Last year he made 3 moves. This year we have to see. I said this afternoon I trust Vic to spot talent.

Last year fans wanted Rodgers and Sweat traded, had no clue who Burks was, Becton was a bust and Williams was a nice rotational DT. Now some fans act like all our best players just left in free agency.

It's not fear that's a brutal schedule. The Broncos are going to be better than you think.

I hope you are right, but on top of who they play every team will have the champs circled and give them their best. I'm not scared, but they are going to need depth and luck to stay healthy.

I dunno if anyone is worked up over Burks not being re-signed. You can trust Howie yet still be disappointed something didn’t happen, those things aren’t exclusive

I don’t think it’s fear, it’s just being realistic.

No one is acting like that.  Not that I’ve seen.  Most were expecting the big names/big contract guys to go.  And most accept it.  But guys like Rodgers - who has shown more than capable of handling the #2 outside CB spot opposite of Q at 7.5 mil per year would have made sense.

And Burks shined late in the season and throughout the playoffs, played really well filling in for Dean - which is a question mark on when he returns/how he recovers etc. So when he signs for just over league minimum - yes, fans will question it.

There were posts complaining about not bringing Burks back at the price he left for. So yes there are some worked up over it unless you want to argue over Semantics.

Some fans have said the defense is getting gutted, taking body blows and suggesting we have a ton of holes on defense now. yes there have been a lot keeping patient as well.

And that Howie somehow won’t add players in the next few days/weeks/months

people haven’t been that bad but for those of us who are keeping the faith on a team that just won the SB after a great GM run of years even a little hand-wringing seems silly

This would be true of any defending Super Bowl champion, good position to be in!

Every team has to stay healthy, and should be scared to play the Eagles.

Something to note about Burks, he played our second most ST snaps and he was pretty good at it.

And if I'm being realistic, I don't think the schedule is brutal or tougher than last year's. The toughest games are Bills and Chiefs on the road.

They almost definitely didn't leave over money though. They left for a better opportunity. Rodgers would be competing for a starting spot here and Burks would be a backup. Either way, Look at how both players were acquired. They are extremely replaceable and with cheaper options.

Yep, this. I don't know how many times Howie has to add players who end up being key or at least solid contributors for cheap one year deals in free agency before start giving him the benefit of the doubt. This include guys like Burks and Rodgers who were added on cheap one year deals. Same as Baun, Becton, etc, and guys like Robinson, Long, and Blunt on the last SB winning team. People just need to have a modicum of patience.

Comments like the defense is being gutted or however they worded it, taking body blows, they have no depth now, they're losing all this young talent, what is Howie doing nothing is happening, concerned about corner, complaining other NFC teams are getting stronger...reeks of that kind of attitude.

Most are being patient, but there are definitely some guys being over the top about it. I'm just trying to keep people positive and confident.

And then they'll learn more about each situation and apply critical thinking.

 - Rodgers may not have been assured a starting role here.  Vic may not be enamored with the poor ball skills he showed against the Rams.  They may want to move DeJean to CB2.  Or any number of FO conversations we are not privy to.

 - Burks is looking for the opportunity for a full time starting role, which would not be available here.  They may be high on Trotter.  They expect to see a boatload of Burks available later in FA.

 - They may be keeping as much powder dry as possible for Becton, a quality starter.
