If Jeanty was available at 32, which he won’t be, we would absolutely take him. The number would be 100% chance we take him.

I doubt it - maybe to use in a trade but you don’t take RB’s in the first round to have them sit for 2-3 years.  Top RB’s are "plug and play” players.

It's been said before but it's worth repeating: Burks may not have signed here even if we matched that offer. It would be nearly impossible for him to start here, whereas he has a very good shot to start in Cincinnati. He may not have many contracts left in his future and I'm guessing he wants a shot at making starter money on his next one.

Davis is a mystery to me.  As in, he seems like a genuinely nice guy, but, does he have the right demeanor/personality/attitude for the NFL?  He has all the physical tools you could ever hope for, but I truly wonder if it's his mentality that stops him from becoming the dominant player he could be.

Effort, work ethic, desire to be great, etc.  Does he have it?  Will he be a "contract year" kinda player?

He just reminds me of a gentle giant type and does "just enough" to keep a role on a defense but just doesn't have the desire to be the best he can be.

I think with Davis, its the position coach that is pushing him to do more. Hurtt seems to be a more confrontational coach, but can walk the talk technically.  Also, pressure for snaps with the likes of Williams and Ojomo performing, won't have gone unnoticed.

Loving our off-season so far. Calm, methodical and nothing to hurt us long-term

I don't the Burks thing had to do with starting.  Cincy didn''t pay him 'we must start you' money.  Either Burks wanted to leave or the Eagles just didn't think as much of him as people on the board do. Maybe they think of him the same as people on the board did before the playoffs started,

I think it did.  He'd be locked into a reserve role here for two seasons.

He was looking to capitalize on his showing at the end of the season.  For the opportunity to start.  To earn incentives and avoid Special Teams.

This is getting a bit more attention than warranted.

Allen 3-60. It’s amazing teams are cutting guys to get out of contracts and new teams are handing them bigger contracts.

Makes no sense to me that teams like the Pats and Vikings simply didn’t trade a future 7 for Landry and Allen and buy a year to see if they’re worth keeping beyond 2025.

You can say that again.

Possible, or they are trying to bring Becton back and every million or so saved helps.  I have a hard time believing they don't think he is worth $2.5 million a year.

That’s my best guess.  Between that and the idea that Burks may want an opportunity to showcase his starting ability - although I think he would have had a chance of doing that here as well.

That said - hopefully we get news of a Becton deal soon.

In NFL terms he had an injured guy who might not come back for a long while and a 5th rd rookie as competition.  It doesn't get much lighter.  I'll make the opposite argument.  Maybe the Eagles offered a 1-yr deal at similar per year money and he didn't believe in himself enough to think he'd get more a year later so he took the 2-yr deal that locks in a low but above minimum salary

Adding to that if he really believed he'd be a good starter he wouldn't have wanted the 2nd year at 2.5.  He's pretty much assuming he won't be a plus starter this year or he wouldn't have taken that deal

It seems to me we are just preparing for some extensions  --- like Jurgens. I'm not expecting any splash signings and we'll probably add some replacements once the frenzy is over and we can get value.

Fangio is also a notorious hard ass. Incredible coach, very happy he is here. But there will be guys who don't want to play for him (see the Dolphins). We're gonna have to accept that.

with no free agents signed, the likelihood of an immediate Cam Jurgens extension tomorrow at 4pm just skyrocketed.

Jonathan Allen goes to the Vikes per NFL. 3 years / $60m deal

I agree.   Interestingly, when Dean was first injured, we read about Fangio saying that Trotter could be special.  In that first game, they seemed to split time, but after that it was all Burks.  We have to trust Fangio on this, and he saw something special in Baun that no one else did.  Maybe Trotter just needs a year in the weight room to get stronger, because he does seem to be in the right place quite often, but just isn't making the tackles all the time.  Either way though... the depth at LB has taken a huge hit with Dean's injury and Burks leaving.  The same is true of Slay's and Rodgers' departure.  The depth has taken a major hit.  Ringo didn't get many snaps at all last year outside of garbage time... AND Ricks became invisible.  It will be very interesting to see what the plan is going forward at CB in the short and long term.

Yes, Fangio has earned my trust in terms of seemingly doing the best with most of what he is given. I push back a bit on the idea that he’s in the kitchen with Howie based on the Bryce Huff signing.

I guess that is an imperfect metaphor- Vic is definitely in the kitchen, but Howie is buying the groceries.  Who's making the list?

It was explicitly mentioned that he's going to have a chance to start, which is something the agent is putting out there because there wasn't much money there.   Meaning, that's an important feature of the signing.

Yeah, but those are the exact kinds of players I don't want anywhere near this team.

Wonder if the Colts pivot to Becton now. Becton at least knows part of the Colts offense even if he never played under Steichen.

Also thought he'd be a great scheme fit under Roman in LA.

Vikings going Hargrave too.   Youth movement I guess

Surprised the Chiefs don't go after Becton.

He wouldn’t sit. Our RBs got 26 rushes per game last season. And with a backup as good as Jeanty, you could lower Barkley’s wear and tear with minimal drop off.

Yep Morrow suited up for Super Bowl and Baun was interacting with him fwiw

I wouldn't be overly upset with bringing him back as the LB3 in the Burks role.   And for that matter, he can battle with Trotter for the starting LB job too.  Make JT Jr. earn it.

If we sign our own guys back does that count against the comp pick formula?

No.

They are still over the cap.  They aren't going to sign a big money player.
