If they made that trade and then just sign Becton anyway, that would be even more confusing.

Basically a push. 5m cap hit if we keep him, 5m dead by trade

We save just over 200k, but then Green has a $2.155mm cap number to us, so net we lose about 1.95mm of space.

With the exception of Becton and, possibly, Burks, the Eagles have their starters at every position under contract. Other teams do not, which is why they're out spending too much money. For what Burks was paid, it seems pretty clear that the Eagles think they can do as well or better with someone else. It certainly wasn't about the money. It's worth noting that Burks turns 30 next week. Players tend to make their biggest jump from rookie to second year, what with a year in the system, consistent coaching, professional weight training, etc. It was a wonder to me how well Q and DeJean did in their first year. That is so rare. I think the Eagles like what they have in Trotter Jr. and I think there are some really good LBs in the draft. I also wonder what kind of shape Cine is in. He was a helluva player at GA. I know, safety, not LB. That's a FA signing I count.

Malaki Starks is suddenly in play.

But I really don't get this. They brought CJGJ back because they thought the defense missed his attitude. And now they trade him one year after bringing him back and he did just that.

Must have wanted a new deal

Former Vikings QB Daniel Jones is finalizing a one-year, $14 million deal with the Indianapolis Colts, per sources. Jones had a chance to return to Minnesota, but now becomes the challenger to the Colts’ former first-round pick Anthony Richardson.

Poor Steichen

Go ahead and read what Texans fans say about Green, holy Geezus it's f'n bad

Uh oh… are we going to see the inevitable move of Dejean going to safety?

It's not as simple as just matching the money/years when it comes to bringing players back.

Burks probably could have gotten that money here.  But he wasn't going to start.  And his playoff performance just got him an opportunity to do that elsewhere, where he can parlay that into a bigger payday if the stars align for him.

Burks will be 30.  This is his last contract.   Howie went with youth. Trot2 was the #3 ILB on most draft boards last year.  The young players need to play per Howie.

Maybe they liked what they saw in limited practice from Cine as well.  My bet is CJGJ asked for more money and Howie was not giving it to him with the other contracts coming up

This is a bizarre trade. Kenyon Green was drafted as a guard but his best position is mascot.

He is not a bad guard, he is abysmal. He is one of the worst draft picks in Houston Texans history.

He can't even play a little bit.

This is a MASSIVE Stoutland U reclamation project. Do not expect him to be on the field anytime soon.

FWIW, I was in Houston for a lot of his career and 610 in Houston is owned by the Texans and they have lots of insiders on the radio. They all view him as a terrible football player. The hope was that he could rebound in 2024. He did not.

A couple dominoes fall with this #Eagles trade: — C.J. Gardner-Johnson’s departure creates a vacancy at safety opposite Reed Blankenship. Sydney Brown might be the in-house candidate to replace him. Lewis Cine and Tristin McCollum are other options. — Kenyon Green’s arrival suggests the Eagles are unlikely to bring free agent Mekhi Becton back at right guard. — Howie Roseman continues to emphasize the trenches.

If Sydney Brown is the plan, and maybe it won't be, I gotta call arrogance on that one. I've seen zero from him to show he can be a starting safety in the NFL. If the plan this offseason is to truly hand starting duties over to all the young backups, then it's bound to fail in some areas. I just don't think Brown is very good and Green has flat out sucked to start his career.

Holy crap, the legendary NFL Pressroom defensive coach Jeff McLane hasn't seen anything from Brown? Anyone know if he'd seen anything from Zack Baun when he signed last year.

You're a beat writer you arrogant dickhole.

Just a reminder...

CJGJ, Becton, Burks, and Rodgers all arrived just last season.  Aside from CJGJ, all seen to be depth pieces.  They weren't core components of the team - draftees that get coached up, achieve success, and then extended.  Admittedly Baun arrived last season as well.  But he was exceptional and earned his way into the master plan.

Howie will bring in another way of similar players before he is done.

As long as the guy has the want-to, Stoutland will figure it out

Every single OL for Houston was bad. It was the coaching.

Yup sounds like CJs mouth wore out its welcome.

Hes a good player but a headcase.

Zangaro says same thing he heard about freeing money to keep core together.

Retro post...

Go ahead and read what the Jets fans say about Becton....

People really overrate CJGJ based on his brash personality. He got burnt a lot last year in a defense built to stop big plays.

Kenyon Green only played LG so far. I'm guessing they will try him at RG but jeez do they really hate Steen for whatever reason.

Cheap depth and competition. Stout must like him

I really liked the safety from South Carolina but didn’t think it’d happen.

Im now seriously rooting for us to draft him

He didn't say those things. It was the poster here who added that last paragraph

I mentioned a couple pages back. He was awful last year. Not that PFF is end all be all but they had him below 40 in his grade and he started nine games. It’s why I said if stoutland gets him to just be useful it would be a feather in his cap. Because he wasn’t just bad but awful.

The second paragraph was me not McLane.

They must feel good with cine vs brown. Wasn't cine a first round graded safety?
