Slay retweeting that is petty to me. Also isn't Slay with the Steelers now?

We haven't officially released him

At least we had the best defense in the league for one season and we won the Super Bowl! Was fun while that lasted.

FYP

I would have rather gotten more picks and no Kenyon Green.

Don’t steal my dude!! Haha but even I feel he is just a guy but he does have some possible upside.

A year ago Baun was 'Just a guy'.  🤷‍♂️

It worked pretty well with Shady.  🤷‍♂️.  I don't think this is the year to do it based on Barkley's status... but next year or the year after... definitely something to consider.

I was against that back then too

Anyone think Jason Kelce had something to do with this, with all of the Swifty hate towards CJ?

Isn't it supposed to happen tomorrow?

No. It was more cash than anything.

Editing this for clarity. ... They'll save $8 million in cash this year, but around $200k against the cap. The real benefit will be in the long-term, because they take the dead money hit this season and get Gardner-Johnson's deal off the books in 2026 and beyond

The cap rolls, right?  So, the dead money hitting this year still means we have less next year - am I wrong?

I’ve seen Cines name discussed way too much today. Can’t imagine the plan for Brown and Cine is anything more than battling for the 3rd safety spot.

Every single OL for Houston was bad. It was the coaching.

They traded Tunsil and Green. It’s more than coaching.

This just isn't going to be one of those moves that I'll come around on. Even if the Eagles drafted Malaki Starks, that's a player they had to use a pick on instead of another position of need like an Edge or DT. CJGJ had his flaws. You saw him get beat in the red zone a few times during the season. But he forced turnovers and made plays. I don't think you just easily replace that. Howie is the best GM in the sport, but he's not infallible. We saw how bad the defense dropped off from 2022 to 2023 when they lost a handful of key guys.

So far they've lost 4-5 starters depending on what happens with Slay and if/when it becomes official. I don't think they will fall off like 2023 or anything, but I do think there will be a fall off for sure. Maybe this won't be a situation where during the 2025 season people are looking at this trade as a "disaster" but I'd be pretty surprised if it wasn't something people weren't at least lamenting a little bit. CJGJ brought a lot to the table.

Out of all the moves, this and Rodgers are the ones that bother me. All the others I legitimately get.

Im goin back to sleep wake me up if Howie does something

Truly head scratching move to trade CJ for that return, now we have a hole at starting safety for no good reason.

I’m glad we won last year, because this team will take a big step back next year.

Enjoy the SB offseason boys.

At least Sydney already has some competition in house, I suppose.

I go on a call for 1 hour and this breaks loose

I'm not sure the trade reflects well on CJGJ.  Traded for the busts bust Texans OL, and the Eagles win on the draft comp. Damn.  They traded him away for a bag of rotten oranges and a slightly better supermarket coupon. Damn

They downgraded S and RG in one trade. This will be felt on the field but we saved more money

I still think Becton has to tie in here somewhere. He may still be "on the table" but I'd guess Howie feels its a longshot he comes back.

I’m guessing green is competing with steen for the starting RG spot. I’ve said this for a while, i just don’t see the Eagles paying five offensive lineman 10+ million dollars per year. They’re going to give Jurgens an extension. So you’re gonna have four of your five making that. Once lane retires then it’s back to 3 of 5. Imo RG is going to be a revolving door until the draft someone that hits and plays to their expectation. Since 2022 the eagles have had 3 different starting RGs: seumalo, jurgens and becton. Now probably steen making 4 in 4 years.

although here is an outside the box thought, maybe the Eagles watch Jurgens this year and scouted some kids in the draft at center and believe Jurgens can move back to guard. Jurgens plays at a high level at RG and one of these centers can be potentially be as good or better than Jurgens long-term. I do not think this is the case, but I believe there was a report the Eagles were very interested in a center in the draft that didn’t exactly have the versatility.

Texans reddit seems to think Stout is going to change him from sucking to being good

They're happy to be rid of him though

Strausser did a bad job given the talent.  Green played terribly along an entire line that played terribly.  He's only 24.  He has upside as a player.  I don't think he's probably real competition for Steen but he could be a good fill in player.

They might be about to pay Reed more than CJGJ and knew it would be a problem. Fangio likes Reed

I mean we finally get a defense we yearned for years and then a lot of important pieces have left. I hoping it's Fangio who was the big difference maker this past year.

Turning over 5 defensive starters for week 1 is really tough.  We are going to have a new defense next year.

But you can’t pay everyone.  The focus this offseason is clearly to transition to guys that are young and will be here for a bit without a mega deal.

I'm not surprised at all that Kenyon Green was identified as a reclamation project, but I thought he might be cut or we wouldn't give up anything/anyone of material value.

They saved money to pay more important pieces over the long-term.
