We do not know if Green is meant to be a starter, I don't see how he could given the bolded. He may just be depth and another reclamation project. He might have been an add-in since the CJGJ move is apparently mostly financial.

You have to click to expand to see the entire quote. But Green missed all of 2023 with a shoulder injury, was benched last year in October, and has only ever played Left Guard.

I can't see that as an instant RG starter, that has to be a depth/project add-in to the trade.

He played RG LG RT and LT in college...

But yeah agree with the rest.

Those are down the line issues. Try to win another and then make these moves.

This is why Howie is the only GM to win a Super Bowl with 2 different HC/QB combos and you will struggle to retire.

As an aside, can the Eagles chill with the propaganda and rhetoric a bit?

"I'm told this move was made to keep the core in tact."

You just traded a member of your core away. Just say we couldn't afford to give him a new deal, it's cool to be 100 about it.

Very shocking trade. It seems Fangio wants to re-shape the defense more to his liking.

We complained throughout the season that CJGJ gave up so many big plays. One play he makes a big stop, another he gives up a TD. We know Fangio was critical of the team after the SB about giving up points in the 2nd half. Maybe Fangio doesn't like CJGJ giving up so many big plays and wants better.

But we have to stop assuming they are done at a position. There will be new free agents signed, and we'll see what they do in the draft.

Two guards just got like 17.6 and 19.25 million a year  (Will Fries and Aaron Banks) (Vikings and Packers)

A 3rd guard desperate team traded for Thuney (Bears)

The Eagles are not going there. Now that means a 4th team would have to also be willing to break the bank for a guard

It has to be like 13-15m + range for Becton to leave. If someone offers him 12 and the Eagles can do 10, he probably stays.

Even if there is a 4th guard desperate team, they might go with the better but older player in Zeitler first.

We just don't know yet and I am just thinking out loud. No reason to gnash your teeth about losing him before we lose him.

Those issues are closer than what you think. They are a year away. They can still go for another. They’re still one of the better teams in the NFC. Are they as good today as they were at the end of the year? No. That was going to happen anyways cause they were gonna lose guys who were valuable to this team because they just couldn’t afford to keep everybody.

So I have no problem if they’re staying to themselves, we’re gonna put ourselves in the best position possible for 2026 and beyond by taking a little bit of a step back in 2025. everybody on here would be super pissed off at the Eagles and Howie if we got to 2026 and had financial issues to get guys like smith, jurgens, davis, reed and Carter done

The article said only Left Guard in the NFL, my bad I was recapping the points.

Maybe that wasn't an option.  I don't think you were getting better than a 5 for CJGJ.

Then keep the 6th you shipped off with him.

I dunno, we'll have to see. Eagles had Kenyon Green in for a pre-draft visit when he was in the draft so I think it's someone that intrigued them.

We should just spend the money!

I don’t think they view CJGJ as core. I think they’ll pay Reed because they do view him that way

I still think Becton has to tie in here somewhere. He may still be "on the table" but I'd guess Howie feels its a longshot he comes back.

If becton is a 2 year deal with lower cap number i could see it. But if he gets 11-15 mil i just don’t see us giving jurgens and extension and becton then paying all 5 OL 10+ mil.

Ultimately the Eagles are worse today than they were but today is March 11th

CJGJ wasn’t a core player. At all. We just let him walk once before 2 years ago.

Core players: Hurts, Barkley, Brown, Smitty, Lane, Mailata, Dickerson, Jurgens, Carter, Baun, Mitchell, DeJean, Blankenship. Dean, Nolan, Hunt and Ringo might enter the conversation next season.

He gets lucky as hell sometimes. Huff was a massive mistake and he fell into it with Baun. The guy isn't infallible. He made the wrong moves after the last SB and LB and S were big issues.

Also, I made enough money from real estate investments to never have to work again, but cute.

Very minor cap savings with CJ, Burks, and Rodgers (bit more on Rodgers).  I'm not sold on losing these three.

Teams have become VERY reserved with giving up draft picks. They all want pick swaps these days so they can have more cost controlled players of their choosing.

Basically, CJGJ isn’t worth nearly as much as most of you think he is.

Outside of a starting TE, 3rd string RB and some oline depth.... I fully expected the Eagles to go majority defense this upcoming draft. DE, DT, S, CB will all be addressed in the draft. 2026 will be all about finding Lanes replacement and filing the remaining holes they might have and with them having 3 3rd picks, it gives them the opportunity to take BPA over a certain need they might have

TE, DE, Lane's replacement are all important in the draft and/or FA.  RB3 is also a need, but can be a late round pick.  The FO and coaches are leaning on playing young players.  So moving on from the vets should not be a surprise.  They have more confidence on the back-ups already on the roster than the fans.  Stockpiling on draft picks is a sign that they emphasize the draft for cheap players.  Save the cap for extending the proven ones already with the team.

It’s about cap. Even though the accelerated hit doesn’t help this year you’re still adding what he would have earned or been guaranteed this year and next to the long term cap next year

Did you never make a mistake while investing?

Unless becton comes back, I think Tyler Steen like going into the off-season (like last year) as odds on favorite to be the starter. Becton just beat him out and took it. Green was brought in so Stoutland could work with him and try to maximize him. But I think it’s also to try to have somebody in competition with steen and push him.

Right, which was the $8M cash they would have had to pay him this year.

There's no cap benefit this year and now that they don't have to pay the cash, they don't have the cap burden that follows. Saying it's all about the cap is more applicable to the Saints restructuring Carr.

With stocks, sure.  Howie will make mistakes, but some like this he doesn't have to. One more year of CJ wouldn't have prevented Carter and the rest down the line.
