The issue with Milton Williams, and the reason to let someone else overpay him, is that it seems highly possible/likely that his success is due to playing next to Jalen Carter. And the best evidence o

go colts!

What’s up with the CJGJ trade?  The guy was a baller.  Maybe he spoke his mind a little much but that isn’t a reason to trade the guy.  Ball hawk, all over the field - made play after play.

Unbelievable.

I’m just glad we won it this year and I was there.  :towel:

I have no problem with them trying to fix them and trying to get something out of him. But this whole because they did it with becton and jets fans also said he was awful so he’ll be good is also foolish

They did it because Stoutland saw something he liked and wants to work with him.  Stoutland has the right to say that about any OL out there.  It doesn't mean he can make it work, but I'll take my "chances" with him (intentional reference to Chance Warmack!).   Because when it doesn't work, you've generally lost nothing.   Meanwhile, when it does... you get a year like we got from Becton, or the career of Jordan Mailata.   That's worth a few swings and misses!   What concerns me, is when they make a move for a guy that hasn't had a meet and greet with Stoutland (like they did with Dillard!).  Green had a top 30 visit with the Eagles the year he was drafted.  You have to believe that Stoutland was the point guy in that meeting.  So, he knows this guy, and you have to believe that Howie reached out to him before finalizing this move for him.  No guarantee, but...

He literally never has started a game in his career. There's no chance in hell they saw him on the scout team and said "damn this guy is back".

Agree, but my guess is that they probably had Cine graded highly during the draft process a couple years ago. I’d imagine Kenyon Green as well.

Marcus Epps is available. He's a steady player.

Had a devastating knee injury if I remember correctly.

I hope Howie doesn't get sentimental and do that

Like I said, I have no problem if Stoutland went to them and said hey, get him as part of this trade I can work with him. I trust that stoutland believes he can get him from being really bad to at least being competent. I also think that just assuming stoutland is going to be able to transform him into what he did with becton is pie in the sky thinking and more unlikely.

I think the more realistic expectation should be he can be a quality backup with Stoutland helping him. I think that’s far more realistic than being he’s gonna pull a becton and become a pro bowl caliber guard. He very well might just become chance warmack who was fine as a backup

Turning over 5 defensive starters for week 1 is really tough.  We are going to have a new defense next year.

But you can’t pay everyone.  The focus this offseason is clearly to transition to guys that are young and will be here for a bit without a mega deal.

The defense will be somewhat different but the most noticeable changes will be the loss of Josh Sweat and Slay.  Williams was a part-time starter.  CJGJ wasn't the reason the secondary was so good.  The secondary really improved with the addition of DeJean.  Slay was a liability at times tackling. I am hoping Ringo will be a plus in that category.  The only question is how he will hold up in deep coverage.  There's likely to be a drop off next season but it may be a situation where the defense is on an upward trend at the end of the season.

Syndney Brown is constantly nearing penalties and doing the most after the whistle - I can’t imagine letting him play 60+ snaps a game and having confidence he won’t be ejected/constantly draw penalties. Not to mention, not really being the fleetest of feet.

That just makes him fiery though! 🔥

Who knows.   This has been a bizarre off season - and I’m alright with letting the big names/big contract guys go because we couldn’t afford them.

But then they start pouring salt on the wound first with Rodgers, then with Burks…but now trading a guy who was central in the secondary - a great free safety - who was already under contract - like WTH is going on?

I still believe there’s going to either be another move to push steen. I don’t think they’re just gonna hand steen the keys. He will be the favorite m. I think they believe with Stoutland that green can be a solid backup and maybe if stoutland works his magic can push Tyler Steen. Taking the chance on Green is less of the problem. The bigger problem to me is people are trying to play this off like Stoutland is gonna work his magic and get becton out of him. I think more realistically thought should be the idea that he is a competent back up in case someone goes down.

Well, that just goes to show you the type of coach Stout is though.  He can do anything!  :flex:

Ya gotta acquire a lot a few Chance Warmacks before you can find a Mekhi Becton.  You gotta draft a few Prince Tega Wanoghos before you find a Halapoulivaati Vaitai or a Jordan Mailata.

Stout has a way higher success rate on these dart throws than most guys.  Let him cook.

Sorry, but there were a fair few people in here including me pointing out that CJGJ was getting toasted in a few games last year, when your defense plays like they did down the stretch last year it puts a rosy glow on a lot of stuff that wasn't quite so good in the cold light of day.

If Vic wanted CJGJ here he'd still be here, he isn't, and I guess those TD's he gave up by losing coverage in multiple games last year is why. He's a decent safety on his day, he's not irreplaceable.

When the scheme had to rely on CJGJ in coverage he got burnt.  He was much better bracketing a player and making plays in front of him.  He was a good tackler at times.  I do think his attitude was missed in 2023.

Its stoutland can potentially do that. Also people have unrealistic expectations he can just do it with anyone cause of becton and mailata. Meanwhile chance warmack wound up just being a solid backup. If stoutland gets Green to go from one of the worst guards in the league to just being average, I think that’s a hell of an accomplishment.

History hasn't proven to be a reliable indicator of the future here lately.

Has anyone asked Big Dom if he approves?
