I mentioned the possibility of trading Dickerson a few weeks back, not because I want to, but because of having too many top dollar contracts at one position. I think he's one guy that could be a surprise trade before it's too late with his knees. Anything is possible with Howie, and after today, nothing would surprise me.

Could they look at Mailata, Jurgens and Lane as their OL core and try to find the bargains at LG/RG every few years? This idea can get thrown out in a few years once Lane retires, but just looking very outside the box now that we know Howie's plan.

Steen didn't do bad as his replacement.

Barf wouldn’t trade Dickerson for anything

The worst run franchise in the nfl.  They've actually had to extend guys because the cap hit would be worse if they didn't and they couldn't afford not to do it

Nakobe Dean stepped up and is a very likely extension on a big deal.

If there's ever a time to do an extension at a team friendly deal, it's right now with Nakobe Dean. Sign him to a 3-year extension while his value is pretty damn low.

The other thing to think about with all this change on defense -- it seems the team believes that Vic, along with Baun and the rookies, are the main reason for the improvement. We were 30th in scoring defense in 2023, and we added Baun, Q, Coop, CJGJ and Hunt as contributors. We lost Cox, both LBs and Byard. The only contributor we lost that was added in 2024 was CJGJ. Sweat and Williams were here in 2023 when we sucked.

Clearly, Howie is high on Vic and the coaching staff's ability to get young guys to perform. We'll see if that confidence is misplaced, but Q, Coop and Hunt all came in and played well right away. Can they do it with Ringo, Brown an Trotter?

We do need bodies on the D line.

Heading into this past off-season, the two young defenders I thought could be sleepers were Ringo and Ojomo. Ojomo hit my realistic best case scenario, but we drafted Mitchell and DeJean, so obviously there wasn’t much playing time for Ringo.

I remain quite high on him though. He might have tighter hips than you’d prefer, but other than that he’s about as perfect a prospect as you could want. Big, fast, good tackler, ball skills, and the collegiate clutch gene.

CB coach Roy Anderson has beamed about him when asked to name which of the young DBs has looked great in practice. AJ Brown has said he gives him trouble in practice and thinks he has all-pro potential. Obviously take it with a grain of salt, but the fact that they are so high on him tells me it’s not just talking up their own book.

I wouldn’t be surprised if Ringo shocks a lot of people. Teams are going to throw at him since he’s the least tested, but it’s tricky. You’re not going to get explosive plays underneath because he’s such a good tackler. At 6’2” jump balls aren’t something you’d expect to exploit against him. He can run down field with just about anyone. And we play so much zone that it helps mask much of his weakness in turning quickly. And every time you throw at him you’re risking this…

OK board. Knowing what Howie's plan is. What players on this team do you feel are the true CORE? Which players are they building around for the long-haul and who might not be viewed as that big picture piece?

  • Defensive core: Carter, Nolan Smith, Baun, Q, DeJean
  • Defensive contributors but may not be big picture: Davis, Dean (depending on injury), Hunt (could become core over time), Ringo, Blankenship (assuming he's extended would make him a core), Ojomo, whoever they add this year in FA and draft.
  • Offensive core: Mailata, Dickerson, Jurgens, Lane (until he retires in a couple years), Hurts, Barkley, AJ Brown, Smitty
  • Offensive contributors but may not be big picture: Goedert, Steen, Shipley, Calcaterra, McKee, Elliott (hopefully his slump is over)

Malik Jackson...forgot about him and Ngata.

And older players get hurt. DJax was great for the like 3 games he actually played.

Malik was a bust of a signing

If the guys leave then their signing bonus money from last deal accelerates so they have to extend them to respread that money.  It's their own players

They aren't, they are just restructuring and signing their own guys because like @pgcd3 said, it would cost more against the cap to move on from them.

They are in salary cap hell and it's probably not getting better anytime soon with the way they operate.

I will say -- bringing back Miles Sanders on a cheap deal makes way too much sense. Let him backup Saquon again.

Would be a great move imo - much better than using a high draft pick on a RB to back up Barkley, imo.

Tyler Steen

We still don't know the extent of his knee injury, or if he even had the surgery yet. Last we heard about his knee was on February 13 and that was he was planning on having surgery. Are they cleaning the knee out? Are they repairing a torn ligament? No one knows. He's already had 2 torn ACL's. If anyone is playing on borrowed time, I think it's Dickerson. He's a vocal leader on the OL, but CJGJ was a the vocal leader on defense.

Nothing is impossible with Howie. Nothing should surprise us with Howie.

I'm just looking at the players that MUST stay. I think the injuries Dickerson has sustained, plus his contract make him a candidate to be moved sooner than later.

Sanders is terrible now. Couldn't even start on the Panthers after a nice contract, easy pass. It's a good draft for backs.

I’m 100% all in on Dean if he comes back from injury. Having 2 linebackers locked in for years would be amazing; he was awesome before he got injured

No, I mean who was Steen's replacement? Is that what you meant?  I'm confused how you worded that.

It's $24.6mm in dead money (net cap hit of $18mm) to trade him before June 1. NFW that happens. After June 1 you can take $12.5mm hit this year (almost $6mm loss of cap space) with the rest in 2026.

There's no chance.

I'm hoping we're getting close to the bottom of the Eagles offseason share price and Howie can start into positive action.  Becton leaving might be bottom when it happens

He really was. Watch the Eagles 2024 highlights the team put out and Nakobe just makes plays behind the LOS. He makes impact plays. Still room to grow moving in space, but man, gotta love having LB that can blitz, read and react and force turnovers.

I'm not suggesting this year. I'm talking big picture, down the road.
