What have you seen from him recently to be high on him?

Nothing really either way honestly since he seems to be hurt a lot but I think he’s shown flashes when healthy and I really liked him coming out of college. He may also stink I guess but it seems like the Eagles like him for whatever reason.

I wouldn't totally agree with that last statement. The Eagles had Maddox over him on the S depth chart last year. Maybe it was the new defensive scheme that he didn't get to learn during the offseason, maybe it was rehabbing the ACL and wanting to bring him along slowly. But I don't think they really have showed they like him.

D line, CB, and RB in that order. Just my opinion. And always with BPA because I think Howie has changed his tack to go BPA rather than limit to positions where there is a need.

We’ve brought in the following corners for visits so far:

  • Car’lin Vigers, CB, Louisiana Monroe (AS)
  • Jesse Johnson III, CB, Austin Peay (AS)
  • Dorian Strong, CB, Virginia Tech (CM)
  • Jacob Parrish, CB, Kansas State (AS)
  • Nohl Williams, CB, California (FM*)
  • Jonathan Edwards, CB, Tulane (AS)
  • Trey Amos, CB, Ole Miss (AS)
  • Jaylin Smith, CB, USC (AS)
  • BJ Adams, CB, UCF (AS)

Trey Amos is the only guy worth a second round pick on that list. We’re clearly targeting a corner in the 4th or 5th round. Same thing at RB. Almost no one we’ve brought in for a visit is a day 2 guy.

To an extent, you can work on hip tightness doing stuff like Yoga and Pilates regularly. You'd think a professional sports team would have that knowledge in house, especially with players with a known issue before arriving.

Yeah I'm not buying they love Brown but I also think this shows what they thought of CJGJ. They can say it's purely cap but they clearly felt he wasn't worth the cap space which wasn't huge.

OK board. Knowing what Howie's plan is. What players on this team do you feel are the true CORE? Which players are they building around for the long-haul and who might not be viewed as that big picture piece?

DL:  Carter, Smith.            On the fence:  Davis.     Too soon to tell:  Hunt.    On the outs:  Huff

LB:  Baun                          Too soon to tell:  Trotter, Jr.

CB: Mitchell, DeJean         Likely not a long term solution:  Ringo

S: Blankenship                  Not a big picture piece:  The rest

I think that's the 50% that's the 'core', the rest are going to be fill in as we go.   Likely rotational DL.  They'll need to find another LB to replace Baun in the next couple years as a core piece.   Then in 5+ years, they can look to upgrade again on the secondary.

So when Kellen Moore & Shane Steichen are both available in 2 years who do we choose when Patullo gets Colts job?

Today is also why I firmly believe Howie will do anything he can to get out of the Bryce Huff contract. There's no way he's trading CJGJ just for money that's $8M but will be fine paying Huff $16M to "hope" Huff can turn it around in a scheme he's not a fit for or just be a pass rush specialist.

3 out of 5 years he had over 1,000 yards from scrimmage.   The years he didn’t he was dealing with injuries.

And you saying he "needs an all pro”offensive line to be good is a laughable argument.  Saquon Barkley averaged 3.9 yards per carry his last season with the Giants.  In 2021 he averaged 3.7 YPC.   Are you going to say the same thing about him?

Every RB on the planet benefits from a good offensive line - among many other things like system, the type of QB, health level, etc etc.

Sanders was a very good back when he was here, in this system and behind this O-Line and he would most likely still be very good, especially as a 1-2 punch behind Barkley.

That said - we don’t need to bring him back, especially if the money isn’t right but not for any reason you mentioned.

LMFAO there is no earthly way you are comparing Miles Sanders to saquon Barkley. No. Way. Put miles sanders on those giants teams and he isn't even average 2 YPC.

So tell me if he's so good then why did he completely bottom out in Carolina? Chuba Hubbard had no issues behind the same line. Dude is, and always has been, a JAG that was the byproduct of this line. And on top of that he was always hurt.

I guess it depends on why they felt comfortable letting CJ go.

Also, the offense took a back seat to the defense during the season.  Hand off to Saquon and don't turn the ball over.

We've seen the offense show it's potential when "the straight jacket comes off".  The formula for success next season will look a bit different.

I think the goal this past year was very much in line with the old JJ plan... hold the opponent to 20 and under and we win.   Offensively, they just had to hit 21 and that was enough to get in done.   During the season the defense allowed more than 20 points 5 times in the regular season... and 3 times in the playoffs, but only 1 of them counted, as the other two were garbage time scores against Washington and KC.

In those 5 regular season games, the Eagles only won 2 of those games, losing the other 3.  They beat the Packers (29) and Jags (23).  They lost to the Falcons (22), Bucs (33) and Commanders (36).   Next year that target number likely jumps to 24, and the offense needs to get 30 points much more.   The Eagles did that 5 times this past season... losing only 1 - Commanders (33).  In the playoffs they did it twice beating Washington and KC... and that's what we want to see the offense to be next year, I think.

Regardless of scheme, a pass rush specialist should feast on any team that is consistently winning games by midway through the 3rd quarter

I was VERY critical of Howie for his defensive drafting for years. He now has 4 drafts in a row where most of his 1st and 2nd round selections were home runs. Everyone here but Davis is an irreplaceable starter now.

2021: Smitty, Dickerson
2022: Davis, Jurgens
2023: Carter, Nolan Smith
2024: Q, DeJean

2025: ?, ?

Plus picks in other rounds in that span: Milton Williams, Gainwell, Dean, Calcaterra, Steen, Brown, Ringo, McKee, Ojomo, Hung, Shipley, Trotter.

Howie has actually been killing it ever since he learned from the Reagor/Jefferson draft. It can't last forever, there are bound to be picks that don't work out just like with any team. But if this draft nets a solid starter at DE and then adds a Safety to compete with some veteran free agents added, that should address those needs.

Same.  He shut me up.

I mentioned the possibility of trading Dickerson a few weeks back, not because I want to, but because of having too many top dollar contracts at one position. I think he's one guy that could be a surprise trade before it's too late with his knees. Anything is possible with Howie, and after today, nothing would surprise me.

Could they look at Mailata, Jurgens and Lane as their OL core and try to find the bargains at LG/RG every few years? This idea can get thrown out in a few years once Lane retires, but just looking very outside the box now that we know Howie's plan.

He just signed an extension to make him the highest paid OG in the NFL.  He's really untradable for a couple more years.

Yea, we'll see. Long time from now until Week 1, I'm not convinced they won't address the position.

Eagles spent a few months in 2022 talking up Quez Watkins just to trade for AJ Brown. They talk up their in house guys a lot but actions speak louder than words.

It’s not just cash. We save $6M on the cap in 2026 and $13.8 in 2027.

My understanding is Huff doesn’t help us if we cut or trade him this year. We’re stuck with him for another year.

It feels like they just discovered the method of kicking cap hits down the road via bonuses/guaranteed salary or maybe the cap isn’t real in NOLA.

The cap savings come from not paying the cash. It always comes back to cash.

If we keep Huff this year, that's $16M cash they have to pay and will be $16M cap in future years. Cutting your losses now opens up cap in the future as well as saving cash.

Say no way to Miles Sanders.

Bad pass catcher.

Suspect vision.

Bad pass protection.

Mental errors in crucial moments.

Pass. He left Carolina because they couldn't agree on a paycut, so I don't think he's necessarily willing to play for cheap either.

Funny thing is, his rookie year, he was the only big play threat in the passing game that the team had.
