The cap savings come from not paying the cash. It always comes back to cash.

True, but the strategic move is to free up future cap space for Carter, Jurgens, Smith, Davis, Dean, Ringo and Brown.

That’s 7 starters/potential starters, one of whom will likely be the highest paid non QB in NFL history.

Terrible comp. We didn’t trade a starter for him.

They didn't trade a starter for Green either.  He's a throw in to the deal, we see that with the salary that the Texans ate to make it happen.

Why get a top 15 pick next year when you can get a top 10, possibly top 5 prospect, this year?

Especially when we are desperate for a #2 RB and our entire offense is built around the run game?

Imagine prolonging Barkley’s prime. Imagine being able to handle him tearing his ACL with minimal drop off in production.

If a guy that good drops into your lap with the literal last pick in the draft, there is a straight forward way to get production out of him in a rotation, he provides critical injury insurance on your Super Bowl aspirations, and his timeline projects perfectly with when you move on from your current starter, you don’t get cute — you take him and laugh all the way to the bank.

Part of me is still on the 99% of RB’s aren’t worthy of a 1st round pick wagon.  Very hard mindset to break.  This is a weak draft, so Jeanty’s position relative to other prospects is almost irrelevant.  Now, he 100% should be in discussion at 32 if he’s there and it might be a no brainer.  I would stay open to fleecing another team in that scenario as well.

LMFAO there is no earthly way you are comparing Miles Sanders to saquon Barkley. No. Way. Put miles sanders on those giants teams and he isn't even average 2 YPC.

So tell me if he's so good then why did he completely bottom out in Carolina? Chuba Hubbard had no issues behind the same line. Dude is, and always has been, a JAG that was the byproduct of this line. And on top of that he was always hurt.

I wasn’t comparing anyone just showing you how ridiculous your argument is.

Sanders was a premium back when he was here - anyone saying otherwise is using revisionist history.  Same sort of mindset of the people saying Hurts "is a product of the system”. Is that you?  SMH

Getting rid of Huff also opens future cap space IF Howie can get out of paying his bonus this year, although it would hurt cap space now. That's why I think he will do anything he can that makes reasonable sense to get off that contract. If he pays the $16M cash this year that's going to be $13M in cap space in future years if they decide to move on in 2026.

It's not going to be easy and very easily could not happen. But I think he's going to try.

There is zero reason to bring up Barkley except to try and make a ridiculous false equivalency.

Premium back is top 10, at zero point was miles sanders a top 10 back talent wise. Still waiting on why he was so bad in Carolina with that premium talent.

Sanders being good here and completely falling off a cliff in Carolina is about as clear as it can be for being a product of the system. Dude lost his job in year one and his replacement was way better.

TL;Dr, his vision sucks and always has.

I don't think I'll ever get out of that way of thinking. RBs just aren't worth those high draft picks. Especially when we have clear needs with the 1st and 2nd round

I would imagine he tries after the draft, if we're able to get a good prospect on the line and maybe sign a vet and we have some extra cap space i can see him moving huff to take that hit now while we have some extra room

Nothing really either way honestly since he seems to be hurt a lot but I think he’s shown flashes when healthy and I really liked him coming out of college. He may also stink I guess but it seems like the Eagles like him for whatever reason.

The flashes I've seen from him primarily over the years has been over running plays.   I think he's a great core ST type guy at this point.   As far as him stepping into a defensive role... I'm in the 'let's see him do it' camp.

Especially with the way this team builds the OL, and the talent that has come in the 3rd-5th rounds.

Put a decent 3rd round back behind this line and you're pumping out 1K yard seasons on the regular.

The last ‘luxury’ pick I remember Howie making was DG…which IIRC was in a very weak draft like this where he moved back and acquired additional assets.  I like Jeanty a lot and wouldn’t be upset if he was there at 32 and was the pick.

I have no idea what happened in Carolina - what I know is he was good here and would more than likely still be good here, especially as a #2 back behind Barkley.

And no, my comparison was not a "false equivalency” You guys like throwing that phrase around a lot without even knowing what it means.

Saints making more moves than us

How's that been working out for them over the years?

If you have cancer, you want to operate and remove it as soon as possible.  There should be no crying or worrying about CJ leaving.  Slay said what he did and mentioned who he did for a reason.  CJ’s response and probably asking for a raise in his exit brief was the final straw.  See ya…that’s for the occasional good play and the ring.  He’s easily replaceable though.

Not great, but they stole two good players this off season. Reid would've been a great safety to add after the CJ crap.

Calling CJ a cancer is a bit of a stretch

Easily? I don't think so. The other points are valid but he brought a much needed intensity and physicality that transformed the defense top to bottom. That's not so easily to replace. Look at that hit he put on Kelce in the Super Bowl, Kelce didn't seem to want anymore after that blow.

People keep saying this, but I don't think this is true.

Not saying it *can't* happen

It’s not just cash. We save $6M on the cap in 2026 and $13.8 in 2027.

My understanding is Huff doesn’t help us if we cut or trade him this year. We’re stuck with him for another year.

Not exactly...

From what I understand (I could be very wrong...) they don't get cap relief THIS YEAR, but they would for the future... I think.

Not really. The whole point of trading CJGJ was to clear space the next 2 years to keep the main core together. Jalen Carter, Nolan Smith, Cooper DeJean, Quinyon Mitchell, Reed Blankenship and maybe Jordan Davis.

If you sign Reid to a 3 year $30 million contract, it defeats the purpose of trading CJGJ in the first place.

There's a plan here.
