Some optimism on Green:

Appears his issues were more technique and football IQ than ability. People who studied his tape from the Texans say he has no idea what he's doing out there but on the plays he does, you see elite strength and quickness. If Stout can make him smart, cross your fingers he could be something. If I had to take a chance on a guard who's sucked I'd rather it be a talented guy who has no clue than a guy you see being pancaked and overpowered on film and just don't have the tools.

Other than not knowing what he’s doing at all both physically and mentally, he sounds super promising!

The issue with Milton Williams, and the reason to let someone else overpay him, is that it seems highly possible/likely that his success is due to playing next to Jalen Carter. And the best evidence o

I do wonder if after years of leading the league in cash spending, Lurie has mandated taking it down a notch this year and saving some cash for the Carter, Smith, Q and Coop extensions to come. Also, he just brought in new partners for 10%, and if the club is running at a loss (at least on a cash basis before the season), maybe the new guys aren't super excited to fund capital calls. Feels like Lurie went all in to get a Lombardi and maybe now is clamping down a little.

On defense, I think the most important place to add a vet is at edge -- Smith, Hunt and Huff can't be the depth chart going into the draft. Dante Fowler or Ojulari would be my targets, but they would both count against comp picks. Demarcus Lawrence also, but again, he'd count against comp picks. Von Miller wouldn't count, but not sure Howie will sign someone with his background (violence against women). My number 2 focus would be safety, but maybe they really believe in Brown.

His cap hit wasn't unreasonably high in the final 2 years of his contract (2025, 2026).  2025: $3.7M, 2026: $4.7M.  2027 was a void year (as was 2028-2030).

Those Void years add up though.  According to Spotrac they total $17 million of Cap dollars.

I think it is lining up for future spending.

Also, I believe that a year ago, Howie didn't have $20M a year allocated to a RB and $17M a year allocated to an off ball LB in his forecast.

This is what I suspected.  They probably liked him more than CJGJ at the same price or slightly higher but were never in ballpark he got

That's why I was arguing against the idea of trading Steen for "value." The value is in keeping him.

You and I are on the same page, just misfiring with our wording.  For me Steen only becomes a trade asset in the 2026 offseason, and only if Green proves to be moldable putty in Stoutland’s hands or Becton is extended or both.  I see Green’s 2025 season in much the same light as Mailata’s early seasons on the roster … learning to be a Stoutland product from the ground up.

Yup. How i view it. I don’t think the eagles expected to be giving a baun $17 mil in their plans. Nor the extension to Barkley after his season. I also think bryce huff being  a sunk cost unfortunately likely hampers you somewhere else with the cap.

This is the 3rd Super Bowl season he has come off of.  We saw him have two of his worst offseasons following the previous two.

True, but statistically meaningless.  Meaningful to your gut, but because of the small sample size not supported by any numbers/calculations.

I hate the fact that for the first time since the Reid days the Eagles finally had a loaded secondary and we only got it for a year. Doesn't mean next season's secondary can't be good, but I hated the years having anxiety about that perpetual hole at safety that would always cost us. I sincerely hope we don't go back to that.

I love Malaki Starks, but I also really really don't want them to use the first rounder on a safety. They need DL depth in the worst way.

Jonny Page has a film breakdown of Green on Bleeding Green Nation. One of his comments is that Green plays with a wide base in pass pro. That's an understatement. His feet are so far apart that he can't move. Try it. Take a stance with your feet outside your shoulders, then spread them another six inches on each side. That's his stance. He also has very little knee bend in that stance. He thus can't move and can't anchor. That's some horrible OL coaching. If a schmuck like me can see it it's stupifying that his OL coach couldn't.

A few hundred reps with Stoutland working him should be transformative. He could be a steal.

At what point do free agent signings not impact comp picks?

I believe @Iggles_Phan posted that it was after the Draft … something like April 28th.

'The team got worse' the year after they were in the Super Bowl is a pretty high odds bet regardless. It takes a lot to go right to make the Super Bowl.

AJ to Patriots trade incoming.

Pretty sure this in reference to goedert. Why they allowed him to seek a trade.

Setting market for a possible Dre'Mont Jones signing.  That begs the question if guys who played for Fangio want to play for him again or if he wants them.  Justin Simmons seemed to fwiw

We will probably have to wait until after the Draft to know the answer to that question.

That would be a very hard pill to swallow for fans.

Wish he'd wait a year if so with how good the team is and Johnson only having a year or two and Brown and Barkley close to 30.

I keep saying this but chemistry is a real thing. It's not hard plugging a few holes, but they just keep creating them and there is no guarantee a rookie or 2nd tier FA is going to fill them well.

Agreed 100%

200% if you include the fact that most bettors bet based on their gut feel and/or beliefs in those kind of bets.

Apparently Commanders and Chiefs might get in trouble for tampering with Ronnie Stanley

And the Patriots as well.  Take away their 1st round picks please

Well that's the part that scares me a bit, actually.  I'm guessing this was pointed out to him.  Perhaps several times.  Not every player is a good learner, no matter the ability of the coach.  Hope I'm wrong

Especially cause it costs nearly $14 mil in cap space to do so
