AJ Dillon is not a good running back. He doesn't run to his size and is just a plodder with no vision or burst. The Packers stubbornly kept using him in short yardage situations based on his dimensions/draft pedigree instead of the results. I predict he doesn't make the final 53. Hoping they didn't spend a guaranteed cent here.

Other than the big extensions,  all these picks make you wonder what Howie is loading up for.

On the other hand,  I guess with all the big extensions you'll need to rely on a bunch of rookies to fill out the roster.

They're not getting two 4th's. He has us at 4 picks when we only lost 3 guys officially. BLG just throwing crap out there that he wants I guess rather then what it actually is. If we lose Becton then that would be the fourth player lost, but doubt he will fetch a 4th anyway. More like a 5th...

AJ Dillon means we don't have to draft a RB. If there's a RB we like, he's gone.

Hopefully that’s what this means.  But yes, I could see that… Howie does not like to go into a draft with obvious/empty holes anywhere

Last year he made 1.125 on a qualifying offer (up to 2.575).  Since he was injured and missed season I can't imagine Eagles paid him any more.  I don't think this precludes a pick it just gives them another option.

Eagles don't have to draft a RB anyway. Can always find a 3rd stringer in UDFA. Shipley is the backup.

Disagree… I think they certainly need to draft one

Good move. Dillion can take some of the load…

Howie only did this because I complained about Miles Sanders as the backup

Behind this line he will be fine.

I can't take another season of Miles missing an obvious hole.

He's only 26? Feels like he has been in the league forever.

We got a fake James Connor.

Miles Sanders, Nick Chubb, JK Dobbins or Jamaal Williams sounded better. I guess we’ll see money on Gainwell/Connor to see what they’re thinking.

Id love for someone to be able to take pressure off of Saquon when we’re in blowouts or grind it out games

I was on record of saying the Eagles would pick a RB in the draft before the end of day 2.  I think I would’ve rather they done that, than this.

We’ll have to see contract details, but I doubt Dillon would impact a top 100 pick at RB.

He’s basically here as a low risk high reward guy that gives us options if the draft falls against us at the RB position.

This is Dillon's 2023 highlights as he didn't play in 2024, but this illustrates what the Eagles get.  He's not going to bust any long runs, he'll just chew up yardage.  He runs through people with size more so than with attitude.  This does show he's very capable in the pass game, however:

Nolan Smith wasn’t a production monster. Neither was Davis. Obviously neither was Mailata. Lane Johnson was super raw. Hunt was a small school project.

I think the magic formula is body plus mind. If you have the physical talent to be a really good player and you have the mentality to work hard, learn, and have the on field aggressiveness to be physical, then the Eagles feel they can coach you into being a good player.

Usually guys with those traits are going to be productive, because if you are talented physically and tough mentally you’ll produce. But not always. You can find an edge with Nolan Smith being under sized or a guy at a small school like Hunt or a complete outsider to the entire sport like Mailata.

Mailata is clearly the outlier of all outliers. But, I'm not discussing 7th round picks here, I'm focused primarily on the first and second day picks.

Carter and Smith were multi-national champions on stacked defenses.  So, the production was spread out.   But, it was absolutely there for all of Davis, Smith, and Carter.   Not on the stats sheet, but in the tape.  That UGA front was ridiculous.

3 first round pick DL in 2022.
2 more first round pick DL in 2023.

And the Eagles got 3 of them!

But, it's really about the difference between Smith and Reagor.  One, highly productive at a big time program - the other, not productive in a weak conference.  Nakobe Dean versus Davion Taylor.  Landon Dickerson vs Andre Dillard.  Productive athletes from big time programs usually work out at the next level.  Non-productive athletes from small programs usually don't work out.    Jalyx Hunt is a crazy story.  Those types of moves are high risk, high reward.  But, Quinyon was highly productive at Toledo, same with DeJean at Iowa.

I like this move better than signing Corey Dillon!    And I like having a big bruiser at RB for short yardage.

In terms of future Phillydawgs, Howie is much more likely to target Walker over Mykel Williams.

And Starks vs those two?

This is it. He's a pounder who can pass protect and catch a few balls.  At best he can help wear down a defense and do what Gainwell did with less shake but more power.  It's fine or he'll be cut because he's lost it

I don't mind the Dillon signing. He's not great, but I think he'll be fine here

What stops them from doing both?    We haven't seen the money yet, but it can't be much.

He came to the right team.  No matter how many sacks he gives up the fanbase will always be there to blame them all on Jalen Hurts.

Well, it looks like what he lacks in anchor he makes up for with feet that move like cement overshoes.

He's Rashaad Penny 2.0.
