Sez you. He’s a SLOT corner. I hope you know what that means.

That he should be a Pro Bowler in that position, because I don't know that there was a better slot CB in the NFL this year... and that he was the missing piece in the first four weeks of the season.  Insert DeJean... and defense becomes the best in the NFL.  I don't see a need to mess with that.   In the nickel, keep him where he was this year.

For that matter, I'm curious if they need to move him even against 12 personnel.  I think the nickel defense with him in the slot is the best option.   But moving him outside wouldn't be a terrible move, IMO.  He needs to be on the field as much as possible... and he should be close to the LOS because while he can really cover, he can also tackle as well as, if not better than, anyone else on defense.

3 guys I'm wondering what the deal is are Becton, Samuel Jr and Ojulari.  It's hard to tell if their market isn't strong or if they'll be a huge announcement of salary from somewhere.

Not true of DeJean.

But when does DeJean play box safety?  When they are in Nickel it is to defend against the pass.

Two sentimental and not worth it signings

How fast does that John Ross SB ring get to auction?

Oren Burks was an impact player with his 2 starts and his playoff run as the 11th best starter on D.

He has more rings than Luke Keuchly and Urlakkerrrzzz! combined.

I think you missed this part

The amount of money he gets won't change him not being here, just the comp pick we'd get.  How do we define 'not that much money' for him?  Is it $8M?  Is it $10M?   Is it $15M?    Or is it based on the comp pick compensation?   Gotta be worth at least a 5th to not piss us off?

Do people watch the games?  Didn't he decleat Henry in the open field? Don't safeties line up inside over receivers?
Where is DeJean going to play in the 5-2-4 formation? Would you feel better with DeJean outside and Brown inside or Ringo outside and DeJean inside?

In the 4-2-5 DeJean moves to NCB, where he basically is a 3rd safety anyway.

While you wrangle about whether DeJean is a corner or a safety, think for a moment about what Fangio does before you label him.

Kicks ass and takes names?

Identifies LBs to plug in to the defense and makes them into a DPOY candidate?

Please explain your stance. Sweat, Williams, Rodgers, Slay, CJGJ, Burks, and Brandon Graham. All contributed one way or another last season. Impact. Double Impact - JCVD.

Sweat and Williams mattered but neither made sense to retain and both has succession plans

everyone else is normal turnover of replacement level players

I’m guessing all 3 had check ins and not the market they hoped, all for a variety of reasons.

I was starting to wonder when teams would catch on to the Stoutland factor. Every OL FA that leaves here may be ok but I can’t remember a single one that played as good or better.

He's so white he can play outside safety

I guess I just I don't consider those all to be "impact" players. I don't consider Josh Sweat an impact player and he was a starter.

The super bowl says otherwise on Sweat and Williams . That said we knew they were gone. They draft well. We'll see.

That game for sure but not overall.

I don't think they want to pay a RG but if the market is in your favor sometimes you adjust plans like they did w Baun & Barkley.

Yes, we watch the games, and frankly, he lined up much more like a WLB than he did a safety, because there was almost always 2 safeties lined up deep behind him.  The Eagles use a two high shell alignment almost every down... He played much more of a LB role than he did a safety.

Also, didn't Sheldon Brown decleat Reggie Brown in the open field?   Does that mean he was playing safety too?

In the Fangio defense, the safeties line up deep, almost every down.  So, no, they don't line up inside over receivers in this defense.

The only loss that I'd worry about is Williams, and that comes down to Ojomo and Booker.

Burks, meh, Trotter in his second year should take a step up, Edwards redux with more speed around him. Depth will be an issue with Dean probably out.

Slay was solid last year, but far from elite, QBs challenged him instead of Mitchell. Ringo might be a step down, but might not, raw talent, we'll see how far he's progressed. Ricks isn't as talented as Ringo, but as 4th CB/6th or 7th DB, not essential cog.

CJGJ is a playmaker, but can be erratic, gambles too much, in his good years, the gambles pay off, but we've already seen his bad years when they don't. McCollum, Brown and Cine will compete, Brown more physical but not as good in coverage.

Sweat is similar to Reddick, one trick pony with a very good trick, but Hunt is true 3-4 SLB who can line up on the LOS, Baun ILB who can do so. Huff should rebound in a pass rush specialist role like he was with the Jets, never understood why they thought he was a 3 down player.

Look for Howie to find young depth that Fangio can spend much of the year developing.

It's not that deep. Cheaper than what other guards have received. I assumed his post was said in jest and so was mine. You kind of jumped in with the seriousness of it

Also people are getting obsessed with comp picks

I hope the Eagles have Brian Dawkins hired/assigned to full time offseason work with Brown and Cine.  There couldn’t be a better mentor for them than Dawk.

Don’t underestimate Kasper.

Is McCollum out of the question to start at safety?

He looked to be ahead of Brown on the depth chart

Man that would be such a downgrade. Both of these guys would be, hence them trying to sign Justin Reid.

He was.

Seemed like every time I checked the snap counts, DeJean was at 90+%. In this scheme, he offers a true competitive advantage at nickel. Set and forget.

God, I hope so. He stinks.
