Who is the front runner at Safety?

Lewis Cine or Sydney Brown

Both suck. Great video of Brown getting burned on the last TD in the SB. Excited for more this year.

I agree Brown kinda sucks, there's some upside with Brown but I'm just not a fan. I like Cine more but he had that serious injury and who knows now. But he's a former first round Georgia dog.

Hope Fangio is not expecting brown to be less hot headed than CJ...

Sydney Brown is a fantastic gunner on special teams, and a not so good safety to put it nicely. Of all of the positions that need addressed over the coming days, weeks, months, Safety is BY FAR the biggest concern.

Is there ever "proof" with any signings? This guy had the initial signing and then this secondary information. He was correct in the initial signing info so I don't see why he would be wrong with the second piece of info. https://x.com/JamesPalmerTV/status/1899626108926226860

Agent speak.  He's trying to make it look like he got his client the best possible deal.  The more suitors, the higher the price.  So, by throwing out more team names, even if all they did was call to inquire about what the price is... it makes it look like he got his client the best possible deal.  It's all about the PR for the next client, which is why so many tweets are tagged with the "negotiated by XXX" now.

Since we have detoured toward the Draft I just Mocked the following:

Taylor just seems like such an obvious good player that i doubt he makes it to our third. Would run to the podium

But we do believe that he had the signing right, because he did, but we don't believe the additional info after he had the story?
Regardless it doesn't change my mind that Brown is not good enough to be the starter, I hope we will look for another safety. Whether draft or FA, but FA is nearly tapped.

Calling out Brown for slacking off a bit when he's in with the back ups because we're up 5 scores in the dying seconds of the SB is not a serious review of his suitability.

I remember the game thread and pretty much to a man we were all calling KC cheap for going for it against the scrubs when they didn't have a snowball in hell's chance of coming back.

Quite apart from which there's video from throughout the regular season of CJGJ getting burned for multiple TD's and he'd trained with the ones all year.

Easiest way to get someone to swallow a lie, is to include some truth in it.  But, I do believe that's very likely what the agent told him.  But, the agent has reason to embellish the story a little.

I believe the Eagles called and inquired about him.  They found out the price, and backed out.   Others have said as much, who likely got their information from elsewhere.   It isn't about whether or not they were involved in the bidding war, but what offer, if any, they made.  It sure seemed like they weren't in the market as a buyer.  Reid is clearly better, IMO, than CJGJ, so if they could him for the same price it makes sense to make that move.  But, if the impetus to trade CJGJ was to lower cost, adding a more expensive piece works against that.

I agree with you regarding Brown.  But, the offseason has just begun.  There's time and Howie has been known to make significant roster moves, right up to the start of the season.  He added CJGJ in the preseason in 2022.  He added Dotson in the preseason in 2024.  He added Darby in the preseason in 2017.   I'll wait to see how it all comes together at the end.

He is a backup and for good reason.

Problem is he doesn’t play intelligently. He is over aggressive and over pursues. He’s a big play against us waiting to happen. He’s also a hot head that gets dumb penalties. Can’t imagine Fangio likes him for these reasons.

He’s inexperienced. He’ll learn.

If we played a game right now he’d start, and he’s almost certainly going to be the starter week 1 if he’s healthy.

That's a bit of a leap.  There's a lot of offseason yet to go.  We'll see if they make any other moves at S.  They very well could.

Howie literally said the young guys have to play.

i mean, Howie is telegraphing this offseason. He warned us it would be different, he said the young guys have to play.

Ringo and Brown will start. Rookies will get significant snaps. Roseman will look for deals to see if he can pick up a 1 year rental by trading for rookie contracts or special situation players like Green or Dillon. But that’s the level of veteran talent acquisition we’re looking at this offseason.

He said it last year too and people didn't believe him.

But, it doesn't definitively say which ones.   I agree, the young guys have to play, but there's still a significant offseason event to come which involves the youngest of the young guys.  How do we know that they don't draft a safety, open up a competition and the draft pick wins the job?   Personally, I feel the worst thing you can do with a 'young guy' is anoint them the starter.  They need some competition to compete against and win the job over.

You want competition, sure.

But Brown isn’t the type to take anything for granted. That’s one of his big strengths: football character.

I always want competition, especially for new or marginal starters.

I don't think Brown is anointed starter, we still have 4 safeties on the Roster and the only one I'd bet on as starter is Blankenship, I expect the other safety job is open competition between Brown, Cine and McCollum and or a draft pick. Brown is favored because he's a mid round draft pick who may have already had significant playing time if he hadn't blown his ACL in the last game of his rookie season a couple of years back.

Patience...the fact that they inquired on Reid shows they are kicking tires.  Moves will be made. We might not love all the moves but they will be made.  They aren't entering the season handing Brown & Ringo the jobs

we have no evidence indicative of any improvement. His trendline has a slope of zero at best. Not a viable solution.

but we are far from a finished roster at this point
