Zach has been hinting at Huff being gone going back to the last trade deadline. I think he knows something.

Once again, Huff is basically untradeable. IF we could trade him before paying his 2025 option bonus, the dead money is $12.9mm. But you'd need a team willing to take on a guaranteed $16.75mm for Huff for 2025. There's no team that dumb, not even the Jets or Panthers. If we pay the $15.58mm, it adds to the dead money and becomes untenable. There's really no way to move him unless you want to do a mini-Osweiler -- trade Huff and a 3rd for a 5th. I don't see Howie doing that.

This was about suggesting Huff and Uche as options last year in free agency. We saw what happened with Huff. It’s possible Uche gets different result but seems to be same type of player

Doubt Howie wants to admit his mistake let alone cost him even more to move Huff

Does anyone happen to know how tall Dillon is or how much he weighs?

Just over 6 feet and 247 at the Combine

Maybe Vic went into a dark room and figured out how to use guys like Huff.  Now Howie is out gathering all of the same type on the cheap.

I know but he also threw in the "(for now)" with Huff at the end of the tweet. That's what I was referring to.

Actually, Uche was a healthy scratch for 7 of the Chiefs last 8 games. The only game he played was the one Wentz started in Week 18. So he's somehow worse than Huff.

Trading for green also might mean Becton is coming back and they move on from Steen.

Moving on from a guy still on his rookie deal to replace him with someone worse on the basis that a reclamation project might work makes even less sense.

Becton has been on the market for a couple of days now and there's been no stories of him even meeting Teams, my guess is his market isn't as strong as he and large parts of this board thinks it should be, he still might end up back in Philly but Howie is waiting for him to get more realistic about his demands, ultimately he could end up like CJGJ a couple of years ago when he left the building seeking a fortune but ultimately ended up signing a cheapish one year deal in Detroit.

If bpac’s suggestion is to take place, I doubt it will be considered until late in Training Camp so that the effects of Stoutland University on Green can be considered.  If Steen were traded sooner than that, Keegan would almost surely be the primary OG backup.

Brown he shown so little that I don’t think we can settle for competition. We need to add a real starter or draft a guy high.

This isn’t like playing Hunt and Ojomo or to a lesser degree Ringo. Brown hasn’t shown a damn thing.

He's shown speed.   He's shown fiestiness.    He hasn't shown discipline and that's the biggest concern with him at safety.   He plays fast... but generally too fast and ends up out of position... and misses tackles.  He's great as a gunner on ST with that mentality though.   It just doesn't translate well to safety as the last line of defense.   He's got a lot of work to do.

You know it's not a good sign when analysts have to keep bringing up his stats from 3 years ago

1 hour ago, Cheesteakitis said:

Yep.  He's fast.   But that wasn't a great defensive play by him.  It was an awful offensive play. .  He was the beneficiary of a Brett Favre like heave to no man's land.  Great return skills though.

That play doesn't really give me much confidence in him as a safety.  It wasn't bad by any stretch, but its not a major indicator of anything moving forward.

Howie found a way to trade Byron Maxwell one year into a mega deal. I think he'll try anything he can to do it again.

There's some options in there. Even if they could split the bonus with someone and do some type of pick swap I think Howie would do it to save $8M. We have 4 5th round picks. Trade Huff and a 5 for a 6 if they take on some of that money.

Also, it's not just about teams being dumb. There's a bunch of teams out there with a ton of cap space in a bad FA market. I'm not going to try to figure out their 4 year average but there is a minimum percentage they have to reach. They could help Howie by taking some of the money while getting a young guy who might be good in a different scheme and a better draft pick. Win win for everyone.

There's just too much smoke around it. Zach has said it a bunch. I think it was Fowler who said the Eagles tried moving him at the deadline and he'd be a potential trade in the offseason also. Not saying it will happen, but he'll try.

Saints are clearly going for it.

The only reason I suggest that is that the Eagles have seen Steen first hand for 2 years. He looks the part for us fans, and many think he should be in line to start. Maybe the Eagles have said, we've seen his ceiling and it's not good enough for us.

Maybe they know teams covet Steen and they can get more than we think for him so they are rolling the dice on Green?

I'm just spit balling ideas here. The most likely thing is that Green and Steen battle it out and Becton is on another team.

It could also be a timing issue.  Steen is going into his third contract year.  If he doesn’t start and a re-signed Becton is ahead of him then year four will almost surely be another backup season and he would then walk in Free Agency.  Give him the chance to start somewhere else and take a sure draft pick in the trade rather than an uncertain comp pick three years from now.

You can view Uche as Howie doubling down on a mistake or taking another swing depending if you’re a glass half full or empty person

Commanders off season so far:

$80+ million to begin FA

$32+ million remaining.

Key signings: Wagner back- 34 years old

Ertz- 34 years old

Tunsil- 30- and cost them 4 picks over the next two seasons

Kinlaw- 27 years old

Samuel- 29 years old

They have 5 draft picks in 2025- 1, 2, 4, ,6, 7

I don't think it's been a great offseason so far for them.

It's times like this I miss extremeskins

It's very realistic that:

  • Howie trades back, saves a 1st round contract and collects additional pick
  • 2nd round pick: DE
  • 2nd round pick: Safety
  • Rest of the picks: TE, other depth
  • He's definitely not using all 4 picks in the 5th round he will be moving around the draft

He could push more draft capital to next year when the draft is a little stronger too.   They have a number of picks already, but having lots of ammunition for next year might be better than this year to really target specific players.

Both suck. Great video of Brown getting burned on the last TD in the SB. Excited for more this year.

Small sample size, and you are ignoring all his positive plays.  DBs who are doing their job well rarely get mentioned because the action went away from them.

Berman said he doesn't think this signing precludes them from signing another Edge and this is just a flier signing.

Taylor just seems like such an obvious good player that i doubt he makes it to our third. Would run to the podium

Agreed.  In this mock simulation both Taylor and Arroyo were on the Board.  I chose Taylor, but only by a whisker

Flyers stink but at least it’s not a Sixers signing.

I’ll show myself out

1 hour ago, Freshmilk said:

Not that I think Brown is all that, but how do you feel about N. Smith after his rookie season or Dean after his first two seasons?

Not great.   And they brought in players to compete at those spots.   At Edge they brought in Huff and Hunt.  1 FA and 1 draft pick.   At LB, they brought in Baun, Burks, and White (3 FAs) and Trotter (draft pick).

So... if process holds, we should expect a FA and draft pick used on a safety yet to come.   And if no FA is available, the veteran by way of trade route is always an option, especially post-draft.
