Calling out Brown for slacking off a bit when he's in with the back ups because we're up 5 scores in the dying seconds of the SB is not a serious review of his suitability.

He’s inexperienced. He’ll learn.

Both of the above statements are true.  Time will tell whether one or the other holds sway going forward.

So far we’ve brought in the following rookies that play safety for a visit:

  • Major Williams, S, Carson-Newman (AS)
  • Donovan McMillon, S, Pittsburgh (AS)
  • Trey Rucker, S, Oklahoma State (AS)
  • Malachi Moore, S, Alabama (FM*)
  • Andrew Mukuba, S, Texas (CM)

Mukuba is the only guy who has a realistic chance of being taken as high as the third round. We’re targeting day 3 picks. What does that tell you?

That third day picks matter.    Reed was a UDFA.  What does that tell you?

If we played a game right now he’d start, and he’s almost certainly going to be the starter week 1 if he’s healthy.

That's a bit of a leap.  There's a lot of offseason yet to go.  We'll see if they make any other moves at S.  They very well could.

I agree with Iggles Phan.  Brown and Cine will be an interesting battle to watch in Training Camp.

A huge part of what made the Fangio defense so successful was how disciplined everyone was. Brown is still mistake prone, and doesn't tackle well enough.

I'd also like to see them sign a steady vet like Epps or Mills in case they don't land a real threat to start on the draft.

BINGO!

And its one of the reasons Huff got pushed to the bench.  He was unwilling to rush the passer as part of the unit, which is what made them so effective in the Super Bowl.   They didn't leave their lanes, they stayed disciplined and many times the guy who was credited for the sack, was actually just cleaning up the play and benefited from the guy who won that rep against his guy to flush the QB towards him.

Howie literally said the young guys have to play.

i mean, Howie is telegraphing this offseason. He warned us it would be different, he said the young guys have to play.

Ringo and Brown will start. Rookies will get significant snaps. Roseman will look for deals to see if he can pick up a 1 year rental by trading for rookie contracts or special situation players like Green or Dillon. But that’s the level of veteran talent acquisition we’re looking at this offseason.

Cine isn’t exactly old.

Good.  We need a plan behind Lovato... maybe over Lovato.  His snaps have been a bit erratic in recent years.

I don’t think it’s going to be close with Cine. I like the risk/reward of adding him, but I don’t think he has much of a chance to win a competition vs Brown.

Wonder if the eagles feel Lovato cant get his form back together.

He's not that young.   It might be time to move on.

Were those the hilarious cartoons that made Dan Snyder look stupid or am I thinking of something else. There was a great cartoon with Hugh being the locker room ambassador.

Sorry, answering my own question.

Commanders off season so far:

$80+ million to begin FA

$32+ million remaining.

Key signings: Wagner back- 34 years old

Ertz- 34 years old

Tunsil- 30- and cost them 4 picks over the next two seasons

Kinlaw- 27 years old

Samuel- 29 years old

They have 5 draft picks in 2025- 1, 2, 4, ,6, 7

I don't think it's been a great offseason so far for them.

They are all in... 5 years ago.

Howie found a way to trade Byron Maxwell one year into a mega deal. I think he'll try anything he can to do it again.

There's some options in there. Even if they could split the bonus with someone and do some type of pick swap I think Howie would do it to save $8M. We have 4 5th round picks. Trade Huff and a 5 for a 6 if they take on some of that money.

Also, it's not just about teams being dumb. There's a bunch of teams out there with a ton of cap space in a bad FA market. I'm not going to try to figure out their 4 year average but there is a minimum percentage they have to reach. They could help Howie by taking some of the money while getting a young guy who might be good in a different scheme and a better draft pick. Win win for everyone.

There's just too much smoke around it. Zach has said it a bunch. I think it was Fowler who said the Eagles tried moving him at the deadline and he'd be a potential trade in the offseason also. Not saying it will happen, but he'll try.

One of my biggest complaints is "analysts" and "reporters" that cover the NFL have no clue how the cap works. It's why we have to hear people talk about an AJ Brown trade which is impossible from a cap perspective.

If there's a team dumb enough to take on all or most of Huff's guaranteed money for 2025, I'll pay for the Uber to PHL. I just don't see it.

It tells me we got lucky with a guy not a single team was willing to spend a draft pick to secure.

Third day picks indicate level of priority. As in, lower priority. Why pretend otherwise?

Even if they brought back everyone it would be hard to maintain a #1 defense back to back years.

They can still be top 5 or top 10 and everything will be just fine.

I agree, but back to back #1s would be so much fun!  Especially against this year’s gauntlet of opponents.

Hopefully this isn't their only Edge move and doesn't take them out of the Ojulari sweepstakes or someone else. Look I get they need to preserve space for the young guys, but Uche and Dillon is scraping the barrel about as much as you can scrape the barrel.

There's no way it's their only Edge move.

Also they sign a bunch of guys every year that don't make the team. Last year there were like 5 or 6 guys they signed in the first few days of free agency and then cut them in August.

Howie likes to bring in guys to kick the tires, there was something they saw on film, back during their draft, some project they want to see if they can fix and find depth, whatever.

Big contract signings are the ones that suggest they are addressing the position more seriously. Dillon and Uche may get cut we'll see.

Odds:

  1. A player to be added in FA or draft
  2. Brown
  3. Cine. Everyone needs to stop mentioning him, he's a depth player with no chance to start.

I believe you are selling Cine short.  That is what my gut says.  My head is in wait and see mode.

I like this signing as a pure flyer. But yeah, it’s been a big fall for him.

Looks like a Bryce Huff clone... at a much lower price, no doubt.  Likely no guarantee to make the team, but if he can be resurrected even a little... it might free up the opportunity to trade Huff and get that 0 off the team.

I would hate to be a Steelers fan right now. I can't figure out what their plan is.

Uche is nothing but a flyer. Hope he’s paid that way. Don’t like it if that’s the move at DE.

Pretty sure he signed with the Eagles, not the Flyers.  🤔.

I believe 2 things strongly right now pertaining to the Eagles off-season.

1. Sydney Brown will not be the starter at S.

2. Bryce Huff will be off this team or Bradberry'd.

I actually think Huff has like 5-7 sacks this year. He had some chaotic pass rushes that showed his flashes. Without BG, Sweat, and with how much he’s owed I think a healthy season.

Sydney Brown won’t be the starter.

I’d rather see Cine in 1st team pre-season than Sydney Brown. Brown is see ball hit ball with no filter - but also overreacts   too much.

And that's why I suppose Howie gave us that warning and isn't playing the FA game much right now. He has his eyes on contracts for our young guys and getting those comp picks for some future trades. He's playing 3D chess because he knows he has some major money to dish out to his young stars. That's preferable to the FAs right now that really don't even seem all that special this year. I suspect he'll be trading up in this years draft as well.

This!

Some people just want to see free agency news that they signed a player to more than a cheap contract, that it's "making moves." Free agency is a supplement to drafting. If you draft well, you aren't desperate in free agency. And you can be smart about striking free agency for the right players. He did that last year with Barkley.

If he signed some guys in the first couple days those type of fans would still complain anyway. Either it's not the position they would have addressed, should've signed ____ instead, shouldn't have signed that guy now that means they won't address that position in the draft, etc.

And the big picture: in a year or two, guys would complain they don't have money to sign their core star All-Pro type players because they overpaid in free agency last year.

Big picture.

I seriously have no idea why every "analyst" thinks they have crushed it this offseason.

They focus on names.  They got a bunch of big names from 3-5 years ago.  It usually takes that long before the analysts figure out its over.  Which is why when Aaron Rodgers signs somewhere they will be all agog over him and his fit with the new team, making them an instant contender for a Super Bowl.
