Pretty sure he signed with the Eagles, not the Flyers.  🤔.

Howie will have 20 draft picks over the next two years. They we’ll have plenty chances to hit and draft multiple players at positions of need wether it be depth or starting quality. I’d say find the top heavy positions in the draft, target them first, then go nuts

You can view Uche as Howie doubling down on a mistake or taking another swing depending if you’re a glass half full or empty person

This is a cheap contract.   Dramatically different from the Huff mistake.   They can likely move on from Uche with minimal, if any, cost if he flames out.

I actually think Huff has like 5-7 sacks this year. He had some chaotic pass rushes that showed his flashes. Without BG, Sweat, and with how much he’s owed I think a healthy season.

Sydney Brown won’t be the starter.

His wins are sprinter stance, bull in a china stop straight ahead rushes. No length, no speed, no run defense, no coverage ability. Fangio isn’t going to change his scheme to accommodate Huff, nor should he. Square peg, round hole.

He's also going to be 33 before the season starts. He probably costs next to nothing but also probably more than a younger guy would.

I agree it is time to move on.

That third day picks matter.    Reed was a UDFA.  What does that tell you?

So were Kurt Warner, Warren Moon, and Jason Peters, among many others.

Was watching some later round guys trying to put together a list of players I’d like:

CB Zach Frasier, USTA — Kid can really tackle. Seems like what we have been looking for in corners recently with Ringo, DeJean, and Mitchell. I didn’t see him play in the slot, but would be interesting with his combo of athleticism and physicality.

CB Caleb Rensaw, Tulane — kind of the same, but even more physical and plays a closer to the LOS with frequency. Seems like an obvious target with his versatility and skill set.

DE Tyler Batty, BYU — Really physical run defender I think could give you reps in a rotation on early downs from day one. I don’t see him being a prolific sack artist, but would love to add him to the bottom of the depth chart.

DE Barryn Sorrell, Texas — wasn’t a huge fan because he struggled in the run game. Might have a place as a pass rush specialist, but I wouldn’t want it to be here.

Thanks for those

It tells me we got lucky with a guy not a single team was willing to spend a draft pick to secure.

Third day picks indicate level of priority. As in, lower priority. Why pretend otherwise?

Sure.  But, you dig through the many layers hoping to find a diamond in the rough.  Patriots got lucky with Brady, too.  Eagles got lucky with Mailata.   Luck is the intersection of preparation and opportunity.

I wouldn’t be surprised to see a trade down that nets a 6 or a 7 that ensures they get a LS. Rounds 5-7 are just head starts on UDFAs at this point.

That was certainly Howie’s MO last year.

The Bryce Huff situation is just really odd to me.

I get that he has proven he can't be an every down player.

But if we use him like the Jets did, as a pass rush specialist, we would probably get between 7 and 10 sacks and 25 to 35 pressures out of him. So on the low end of his production, he would lead the team in both categories. All for a cap hit of $7.5 million.

If there was a free agent OLB/DE who could give us that kind of production for a cap hit of $7.5 million, we would all be calling it the free agent signing of the year. Instead, people are trying to become instant cap experts to try and figure out how to get rid of the guy.

Garafolo says it’s 1-year, $1.75M for Uche.

That won’t count against the comp pick formula, btw.

That's not the way this defense operates.   Even in the pass rush, the players aren't freelancing out there.  Instead they are playing extremely disciplined roles to maximize their effectiveness, and it worked to a "T" this past year.  Why change that to accommodate Huff's unwillingness to change his style of pass rush to match what the defense is doing?

I wonder how much of that, if any, is guaranteed.  That's barely above the league minimum.  League minimum is $1.17M for him.

Because he isn't just a cap hit of $7.5 million when he would have another $22M in dead money behind it by paying him an additional $17M this year.

Did he know the number for AJ Dillon?

Uche got 1/1.75 750k guaranteed. So nothing. They could still be in play for Ojulari or whatever. If they're interested. Or possibly a trade for an Edge.

I would hate to be a Steelers fan right now. I can't figure out what their plan is.

But some fans will say "But we've made the playoffs for the last billion yearz" while waving a terrible towel.

Such a bad signing to make

With the 32nd pick in 2025 NFL Draft the Eagles select Grey Zebel...  Your reaction would be?

In lieu of someone out of the blue impactful falling they need to spend the pick on D. They’ve a lot of resources dedicated to O already

I agree, but that was also true down the stretch last year when he came off IR.  He did nothing in a rotational role.  The fact that they activated Graham over him just so they could give him a one-armed sentimental send off in the SB means they might just prefer to have him spend 2025 on IR than even play him.

I've been very positive all offseason, but I do fully expect both Green and Uche to royally suck...or...if we are lucky, not even be given the opportunity.

It's backup money so he'll obviously (?) be their #2 QB.

The Steelers should have developed Rudolph properly when they first drafted him in 2018; he was a good (not great) QB prospect and performed decently for a rookie QB in 2019 when Roethlisberger went out injured.  Steelers made the brutal error of letting Roethlisberger return in 2020 and hang on two years too long and stunted Rudolph's development.  They've been reaping the benefits of that error ever since.

I think they really don't want Russell Wilson back and aren't in great position to draft a QB.  Sitting at #21 overall puts them in prime position to draft another Kenny Pickett.
