TE3. Boy they're dumpster diving pretty hardcore right now.

That's what I was going to say.  But this guy is pretty good I think.  Can play.

The issue with Milton Williams, and the reason to let someone else overpay him, is that it seems highly possible/likely that his success is due to playing next to Jalen Carter. And the best evidence o

Better than Stoll

Gotta think that "up to" in the 2m is heavily stressed. Probably much less than 2m and heavily incentive based.

I’m good with Bryant. Think he’s a good blocker unless someone tells me otherwise

They had $63.6 million in dead cap this year.  They currently have $55,611,930 in dead cap, but that doesn't include Slay ($9,441,483) and Bradberry ($3,095,000), so it will be higher at $68,148,413 plus any other cuts\trads (Goedert, Huff, etc).

As you would expect, they timed this out rather well. That dead cap is pretty much five players - Kelce, Cox, Bradberry, BG, and Slay, all going off the books. They have the youngest squad (or maybe second youngest) and twenty draft choices in the next two drafts. Their key players are locked up. So many younger and therefore cheaper players give them the latitude to extend Carter et al. This year, for once, they are not kicking the can down the road. With a mostly set roster, they can take the hit this year.

Many of us have been talking about the dead money on the cap being carried forward for a while.  We are paying for the past performances of Kelce and Cox even on this year's cap.   That's $26.4M to two guys in 2025 that haven't played a snap since 2023.   Another $16.4M in dead money for Sweat, because of the restructure before the 2023 season.  Becton has dead money from his one year deal, as does Devin White, and Zach Baun.   All in all its over $55M in dead money.  And 2026 already has over $20M in dead money from Slay and Bradberry.  This is the downside of Howie's management method.  Pros and Cons.

But what about the attitude CJGJ brought?  How will we recover?

Probably takes them out of the Mayer running. But they'll still probably draft one.

I wouldn't call it a downside.  It's the eventuality.  He is moving the cap impact into the future, where, as the cap increases, the relative impact of those expenditures decrease.

I'll admit, some of the dead money is truly waste.  But the majority was used to buy performance in previous seasons.

He had more pressures and sacks than Hunt did despite playing a similar number of snaps.

He may not be the complete player they were hoping for, and obviously Fangio is no fan of his, but he gets to the qb, which is kind of important. Especially on a team lacking that element.

Wow.  You think Fangio might have made a mistake then in playing Hunt in the Super Bowl and having Huff not dress?   Or giving Hunt meaningful snaps in the NFC CG and leaving Huff to wait until garbage time?

Box score reading doesn't tell the full story.  Hunt played within the system and did what they wanted him to do, including play against the run.  Huff was a pass rush guy only, so of course he might have more pressures than a guy who actually has to defend against the run.

Huff doesn't play within the scheme of the defense, which is why he didn't play in the Super Bowl at all, or in the NFC CG until it was out of hand.  I think he got a grand total of 1 snap in the 2 biggest games of the year.  And, funny enough, they didn't have any trouble getting to the QB without him.  To put forward the idea that this team has trouble getting to the QB and would benefit from Huff is the irony of ironies given the way the Super Bowl played out.

I only listened for about 15 minutes but I think I have the gist:

Spike Eskin knows better than Howie Roseman.

Anyone who disagrees with Spike is evil because other people have opinions too.

Is he the 2nd worst nepo after Bronnie?

229 pounds makes me nervous about his blocking skills.  Seems like competition for Calc

The downside is that we just watched Milton Williams walk out the door.   The plus side is that they managed to maintain the level of talent they did from 2017 to 2024 without really losing anyone of his caliber at any point along the way (though you could make the argument on Javon Hargrave).

The Eagles have the 3rd most dead cap space in the NFL.  They will be second when Slay and Bradberry are added to that total... and that amount ($68M when its all said and done) is more than enough for them to have resigned Williams, Sweat, Becton and Rodgers.  As it is, they really only had the money to spend on bringing Baun back.  (Becton could still return, but that remains to be seen.).  That's a downside.  There were reasons for us to end up in this situation, but there is a piper to be paid for Howie's kicking of the can this far down the road.  We are paying it this year by losing the talent that so many wanted desperately to find a way to keep.  $26.4M this year for Kelce and Cox would have covered the cost of Williams this season.  It is what it is.  This system is working, but it does have a cost associated with it and the cap isn't just a figment of the imagination.  It impacted the Eagles' offseason moves a lot this year.

He’s likely TE3. Possibly TE2 in a best case for him

Agreed.  No reason to think otherwise

His wins are sprinter stance, bull in a china stop straight ahead rushes. No length, no speed, no run defense, no coverage ability. Fangio isn’t going to change his scheme to accommodate Huff, nor should he. Square peg, round hole.

You can still have multiple sacks as a pure 3rd down pass rusher. He has 2.5 this year in purgatory lol

The bigger hits for Bradberry, BG and Slay will be on the books next year

Howie is exploiting a massive inefficiency in the salary cap system -- the ability to basically take interest free loans. The money hitting for Kelce and Cox -- has we taken those hits in 2022 and 2023, they would have been a greater percentage of the cap than they are now. Since he is constantly structuring contracts with min salaries, large option bonuses and void years, the cap numbers for our current players is well below the cash payouts. For example, Hurts has been paid $64.3mm in cash the last 2 years while the cap charges have only been less than $20mm. It's the same with all the big money contracts, on the theory the cap always increases.

The nuclear bomb comes in 2029 if Hurts is not extended. Jalen would be $97.5mm of dead money but not under contract (no way this happens). $35.8 for Smitty, $31.1 for SB, $35 for Landon and even a hit for Jake. Now, some of those guys will be extended, some will be traded/cut before finishing the contracts. But the only real monster issue is Jalen.
